How About A Thread For Those Cooling Off A Bit?
Bill from NYC replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seriously? Go to www.drafthistory.com. It will tell you what this team has done wrt the draft since the team was founded. Posters on this board have correctly predicted first round draft choices year after year, and I am including McKelvin, Gilmore, Spiller and even Watkins and many others. It hasn't been so hard to do. -
I'll start.....To define terms, I am looking at the trades as 1 move for the sake of this post. In all, I am still against these moves because: 1) I think we could have received more than a #2 and a bad corner for Watkins. 2) I never thought Darby was THAT bad . 3) We are now weak at WR despite an early pick in 2017. 4) I truly believe that out of the 6 picks in the first 3 rounds of the 2018 draft, half or more will consist of running backs and secondary. That really sucks. Despite the above, I am starting to cool off a bit from my initial burst of anger because: 1) Watkins, although extremely talented, PROBABLY didn't want to play here any more than Gilmore did. Although I am not one to endorse giving in to players (ala the Peters trade), I CAN appreciate that the new bosses want to play the games with their own players. I'm not convinced that they know what they are doing, but maybe they do have a clue. 2) It would seem to be a sure thing that they will draft a qb in 2018 and supposedly there are some good ones. 3) Maybe, just maybe I will be wrong about #3 above and the Bills will add some blockers and pass rushers. 4) There is nothing I can do about it and I am too old to allow myself to get as angry as I used to at the follies I have seen from this team. 5) No matter how mad I was or ever will be at the Bills, what's the difference? I will support them until I am carted off this planet. Is anybody else tempering their hard line stance in either direction? GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who are you going to watch now that Bills suck
Bill from NYC replied to CanadianFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I cannot and will not turn my back on this team. I will B word and moan until the cows come home and come right back for more misery. True Bills Fans are in this thing forever. We do however deserve a playoff appearance. I mean really..... -
John, I understand that the above could confuse you. I will try to explain: In the 2017 draft, I failed to see much difference wrt the way the new coach went about things. They walked away from a QB and traded down. To draft who? That's right, another first round defensive back. They DID draft a blocker although they had to trade up to do so, but that can work. It did with Levitre. Why should I (or even you) believe that they will not waste most of these picks that they now possess? Six picks in the first 3 rounds? Great! Will they use 4 on running backs and defensive backs John? Is this what you want? Now, they traded away a decent corner and traded for a perhaps weak one. This leaves the door wide open for more wasted picks. I don't want to hear any more that players like Spiller, McKelvin, and Whitner were "good." We lost football games because we wasted our resources on these people. And if Gilmore was SO good, why didn't we keep him? In short, I don't trust the new administration yet. I believe they are better than Rex/Whaley but only because they couldn't possibly be worse. How about we make the playoffs before we throw roses at these guys?
-
You are probably right. I think that the bottom can easily fall out if we lose Shady and a blocker or 2, let alone Tyrod. It hurts to have to think like this. And if ya think these trades were painful, what happens if they blow the draft next year? They will have EVERY opportunity to make this a strong, solid team in 2018, to include all of these great picks and I think a ton of cap space.
-
Do you think that this is beyond the realm of possibility? I hope they win 16 games but 4 seems to be more likely. They have no deep threat so teams will be able to gang up on the run. Tyrod's mobility will help, unless he gets demolished. One thing is certain, it's not looking good.

I don't understand how anyone following this team doesn't see eye to eye with the above. Sammy has a boatload of talent which was of little use to the Bills, and look at what it cost to draft him. I take pride in the fact that I hated this trade from day 1. As a Bills Fan, I learned long ago that the fact that a player is "good," or in this case potentially great doesn't necessarily translate into wins. Whaley wasted out best resources on a consistent basis. He had no idea what he was doing and no self control. Despite this, I think that both trades were idiotic, and the new brass has not shown me that they know how to build a football team, at least not yet. What a mess.......

On this we agree to be sure. It is VERY early but it looks as if the top 3 qbs, barring injury, could be drafted in the top 10 picks, if not top 5. Greg Cossell was talking up the kid from Wyoming (Josh Allen?) and Rosen this morning and said Darnold could get much better. It looks to me that the Bills will win in the neighborhood of 4 games so they might have a chance to get one, if of course they want to go in that direction. It would not surprise me if they did not.

Go on record regarding the trades
Bill from NYC replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know you are breaking my shoes but getting a corner MIGHT have made me happy if he was any good AND they didn't trade one away. This virtually guarantees another 1st or second round corner. And CB, Shady isn't getting younger. Is there another 1st round RB on the horizon? -
Go on record regarding the trades
Bill from NYC replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Both trades were awful They traded a possibly great player for a small, ineffective corner and a #2. Then they traded away a decent corner who they will replace with a very high draft choice. They are spinning in circles and its ugly. -
People, PLEASE don't tell me you are surprised. Seriously. For decades the Bills have focused on the secondary more than any other position with first round pick after first round pick as well as free agent signings. Well, this administration went further and traded away their most talented player for a corner. If the Bills had a top 10 quarterback they would probably trade him for a corner. I have been telling you folks this since the day I came on TSW. I hope that this is not a prelude to leaving WNY because the fans won't put up with this. People watch the Bills and spend their money to see a winner, not to watch cornerbacks. The Bills are now the most boring team in the NFL, hands down.

Josh Rosen's Comments on academics and football

He didn't need (imo) to single out Alabama. I hope that he plays them at some point and gets his ass kicked.
