Not that I am a fan of Castillo by any stretch but that wouldn't work. Remember when we brought in McNally? He was going to make our OL good with a "new scheme." Well, he looked like he wanted to cry on the sidelines. There was zero improvement because there was a lack of talent, plain and simple. It is extremely hard to get good blockers outside of the draft. Teams keep these guys. The only team that I know of with a history of dumping their best blockers is the Buffalo Bills. If this happens the team will continue to suck. Coach Saban was quoted this week as saying that Daboll basically brought the NE passing game to Alabama. I agree that Daboll is not the problem. We have little to no offensive talent aside for an aging McCoy. That's basically it.

The thing is, as a Bills fan I have seen what bad bench numbers can bring. Remember Demetrious Bell (sic)? People used to tell me how fast he was and how he had good feet and it was true, however; he had 9 reps on the bench at the combines and was also tiny by LT standards. Blitzing safeties would take him out on some plays. When you think about it, we have seen almost every specific type of inept blocker on our team.

BB.....you might want to watch Ross Pierschbacher too. He played Guard last year and now Saban has him at Center. He can really play and centers tend to not go so early. If it were up to me, the Bills would have a slew of early draft picks for the next 2 seasons. It really looks like we will pick in the top 5 and I'm being kind. They could turn that into a plethora of blockers and pass rushers. Will they? You tell me.

I understand your concern but the bolded above is just completely wrong. Alabama is better than them at every single offensive position and I suggest that other teams are as well.

He has everything except perhaps the size. That might matter less these days; I'm not too sure. I would be interested in his bench press numbers at the combine.

OK Coach. I'm just having a hard time processing this. I mean.... he could have faked an injury for the rest of the game and not publicly disgraced himself. Even for the Bills, this is very strange.

Does the man have a history of drug arrests, mental illness or substance abuse? There would seem to be no chance that there is not much more to this story. I hope that he doesn't have a serious problem but I wouldn't bet on it.

I think that your post is great and I thank you for it. Imo however it misses one crucial element. I agree that personal insults to Peterman are 100% wrong. Some even make light of his religious beliefs. This is particularly vile but might be a topic for a different board. What I think that you miss is that a big majority of posters on this site knew that starting Peterman would be a disaster. On THIS WEBSITE!!! Don't you think that our coach/gm should have been able to figure this out? No matter who has been in charge for 20 years or more, they have managed to screw things up and it just doesn't change. This imo is what has people in a tizzy more than Peterman. NP is only the latest in 2 decades of major blunders by people who are paid millions to make good decisions. In any event, your post makes some good points.

I have seen him listed at 304. He came to Tuscaloosa as a 245 pound TE, thus the agility.

Jumbo Elliot played well against Bruce a few times. I actually talked to him about it and he told me just how great Bruce was. Sorry, but Fina doesn't belong anywhere near any list of the best LTs. He was small, not very strong and very average at best. If I had to pick one LT it would be Pace beyond a doubt. Some had longer careers but Pace at his peak was better than anyone imo. Orlando Pace was one of the best football players I ever saw. Btw, the best RT I ever saw at his peak was Erik Williams.

Pace was absolutely great. I'm not sure how much OL prospects have declined. Their priorities have changed. It is much harder to pass block than to run block. On a run the OL knows the count. They fire out and attack. On pass plays they are backing up and getting hit. The fact that pass rushers are smaller and faster today make it necessary for blockers to be more agile. When our own Hughes is healthy, he is very hard to block and he is rather small by comparison. It is extremely hard to find a 6'4/325 pound human who is agile and strong enough to protect the blind side of your 30 million dollar per year qb. The Bills, once again, need to pour big time resources into blocking. Imo the best way to do so is almost always the draft. Solid OL play changes the whole chemistry of the game. Less 3 and outs, which means more TOP, a rested defense, a better running game, and a healthier, more confident qb. I'm pretty sure they already are.

The trend I expect to see is the return of the big running back. The DLs are not getting bigger and the big backs can be tough to bring down. But, they will need to have quick starts.

Why do you say that? Don't you think that players like Marcel Dareus and Mario Williams should be in pass coverage?

The pass rush needs to improve. They are doubling Raekwon Davis on every play. I am hoping to see blitzes and picks from #14 and #15.

You may have a point CB. Its hard for me to believe that Peterman was a better choice than McCarron. Rumor has it that in Alabama, Daboll wanted to start Tua early in the season. The man is no fool but it isn't easy to tell how much autonomy he has in Buffalo.

Now now.....there was also a small group of "McCarron sucks and Peterman is much better" posters.

That is amazing, sad, and rather scary. Posters on a message board made better choices that our coach and his plagiarized "process," and by a large margin. I always thought deep down that this would stop at some point.

I agree with all of the above except the bolded. The day of the 2006 draft I said that the team would be destroyed for many years. I know that they got Kyle Williams in the 5th, but that draft was pathetic, and they even traded up to take a horrible DE. The worst part of that draft was the fact that they passed on a slew of players who truly would have helped them. And btw, passing on Mahomes and Watson to draft a corner also reminds me of Jauron.

You know, looking at him, he resembles a pass rushing OLB/Hybrid DE than a MLB, at least he did to me. He looks like a stud and I obviously do hope that he does pan out. I am not criticizing this selection at all John. I'm pissed at McDermott for other glaringly obvious reasons.

BB, is there a player that you like enough to draft if we do (and I am not saying that we definitely will) pick first? I would be really very tempted to trade down to a team that wants a qb. We would be set up with early round picks for years and be able to draft some monsters up front and at WR.

I respectfully, but vehemently disagree. I don't even think that in today's game MLB is the 4th most important position. In the old days, running was far more important than it is now. You couldn't run on some of these great MLBs Shaw. Larry Czonka called Willie Lanier a "grizzly bear with a brain." Dick Butkis would injure people. Jack Lambert, Mike Curtis, Ray Lewis…..the list goes on and on. Today, MLBs spend the bulk of their time in coverage. I LOVE a good ground game but right now it is of less importance. Imo, OTs and pass rushing DEs are worth far more than MLBs. Even guards are being drafted earlier these days. Guys are going to break my shoes for saying this (oh and I totally deserve it lol) but safeties are growing in importance. Now, if a MLB is GREAT, sure he will make a big difference but.....it's a passing league now.
