NFL.com ranks Top 25 QB's of All Time: Jim Kelly #21

I agree and disagree. Marino threw 40 yard square outs. I saw him throw one at RWS. We can hate him all we want but the guy was incredible and an all time great.. Elway was a mega talented QB who was one of the best athletes to ever play. A few QBs who could throw 65 or 70 yard strikes got carried away and took to many risks. Elway fell into that category for a while. Imo he was a better QB when he learned to mix it up more and run the ball with Terrell Davis. He was top 10 imo. -

He was as tough as nails but I am sure that he would readily admit that he should have taken better care of himself. And do let me add that I am NOT judging him. Who knows how I would have acted having been in his situation. -

Nice take 33. I never thought of it in that context. Sorry, but I was never a huge fan of Levy. He was great at soothing egos and that was important, but I think he left a lot to be desired as a football strategist and I am being kind. -
Mark Rypien Facing Domestic Violence Charge

And in a very classy move by Coach Gibbs, the Skins downed the ball down deep in our territory at the end of that game. -
When Foster was at Bama, Jalen Hurts was the QB. Jalen is a decent (not great) passer. Calvin Ridley was the primary receiver and was usually open by a mile, even against top SEC secondaries. Additionally, the Tide had very good blockers, mega talented TEs, and a stable full of running backs. Now toss in an injury or 2 and Foster wasn't going to get many snaps. Given the above, the fact that every single team passed on him was a surprise to many, but not completely shocking. When the Bills picked up Foster and Wallace, a few of us here who are Alabama Fans were posting that these were good players. Others said no which is no big deal. Time and again I have posted the names of players I was completely wrong about (Rob Johnson leading the parade). I suggest that you tape an Alabama game or 2 this season if for no other reason (and there are plenty), to watch their wide receivers. If you do, be sure to let me know what you think.

CB he wasn't useless at Bama. He was surrounded by superstars and it was hard for him to get the ball. If I recall correctly there were also some injuries and remember, until Tua came along Bama was primarily a running team (with 1 great receiver) for many years. I am all for keeping Foster unless a team was offering up a 1st round (or perhaps a 2nd) which is not going to happen, and this only because the 2020 draft is just chock full of receivers like we haven't seen in years. Imo there are 3 draft eligible wrs next year on Alabama who are better than Foster. Trust me on this one.

I still believe that the problem with that team was blocking. When teams would keep Flutie in the pocket our OL wasn't strong enough to run successfully, or to hold off the oncoming pass rush. It was as if the team out and out refused to provide blocking, opting mostly for defensive backs and running backs. Flutie was good at masking this deficiency but the better coaches were able to exploit it. I looked at pro football reference and checked out the Bills rosters from the Flutie years and the OL had holes big enough to drive a train through. I will never, ever understand how so many football professionals were just so neglectful and even stupid.

I'm sorry.....did my little dash of hyperbole make your head spin around to the point where you took it literally? OK, I'll rephrase it and make it easier to comprehend. Watkins (who once again I did not want the Bills to draft) is more talented than Zay at every phase of the wr position and it isn't close. The Bills seemed to agree at one point when it cost them 2 first round picks and a 4th to acquire his services. Watkins, injuries notwithstanding is a super talented wr. Jones is just ok imo, at least up until now. Jmo and once again I'm sorry for the confusion and the nervous frustration my post seem to cause.

I have no ax to grind wrt Sammy, other than the fact that I hated the trade to draft him. That said, Sammy is 10x more talented than Zay Jones at every aspect single aspect of the wide receiver position. I took guitar lessons yeas ago and still have a nice acoustic I play around with every now and then. Let us not compare me to Jerry Garcia.

Then when one reaches the top (GM), I always wondered how many owners demand a say in who gets drafted. I am 100% certain that when Paul Allen owned the Seahawks, he had zero input. He didn't even personally attend owners meetings. Otoh, I am sure that Mr. Wilson was way too involved with the football side. Remember when he said that he needed to become "more involved?" Oy! Fwiw if I hit the powerball a few times and purchase an NFL Team I will hire you, but I will demand some input in the draft. The people running the drafts for the Bills have left me with PTSD.

Josh Allen vs Daniel Jones
Bill from NYC replied to DefenseWins's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My thing is that the quality of a draft isn't only determined by who you draft, but also who you passed on. Levy admitted to numerous trade down offers and passed on HUGE talent (much of it at positions of dire need) in order to draft Whitner, an undersized safety (who btw held out and had off field issues). Whitner was weak in coverage and while he was generally OK in run support, he would also get pancaked from time to time. He went on to collect 36 million dollars from the Bills and it all counted towards the cap. Whitner was one of the dumbest picks I have ever seen but what were we to expect from the absolute worst Head Coach/GM teams that ever existed in the NFL? -

My biggest meltdown was Donte Whitner. Spiller and McKelvin were close but Whitner was traumatizing. -
Josh Allen: Film Review From a Cynical Man

Gotta disagree in that Allen already has freak physical skills. I know what the OP means wrt Bledsoe. Like him or hate him, the man had an absolutely great arm. Marino once said that Bledsoe's arm was better than his. Allen has a comparable arm to Bledsoe AND he can move. I too wish that he had more weapons but he does have better blocking and this would seem to be beyond any doubt. This will hopefully keep him in one piece. In 2020, there are what appear to be great receivers coming out. I hope to see 1 or more wind up in Buffalo. -
I think that being negative about it and not being overwhelmed by it need to be separated. The team went 9-7. For the Bills this is good. They slid into the playoffs. For the Bills this is also good. They were promptly eliminated which is a shame, and caused some posters to temper their expectations, and it turned out that they were correct. How much does all of this matter? NE is getting older, the Dolphins look as if they are tanking and the Jets are young. This Bills team has a good chance to compete. I hope that the coaches can facilitate exactly this.

I think that quarterback salaries mandate the use of rookies. Imo when the NFLPA agreed to a rookie cap they thought that veteran players would get the money. Instead, most of it seemed to have gone to the QBs. For example, paying Cousins over 30 mil. guaranteed leaves a team less room for high priced vets. That particular contract set a scary precedent imo. Soon his contract will be dwarfed by much better QBs, in fact it is already happening. This makes early player development that much more important and is something that I hope our leadership focuses on in the coming drafts.

Yeah, someone must have confused him with Yeldon.
