A Few Scattered Thoughts About The Draft.....
Bill from NYC replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get this but for many, many years it completely sucked. Average for the Bills is huge! -
1) I am completely thrilled by the Fromm pick. Does he have Josh Allen talent? Of course not, but he was a complete steal!!! What a wonderful pick!!! Fromm is very smart and he is a leader. Those who pay any attention to my posts know that I am an Alabama Fan, and have been one my whole life. I'm saying point blank that I would rather have Fromm than Hurts on the Bills. Does this make me "right?" No. Call it an educated guess. 2) I have said before that I haven't seen enough Diggs to properly evaluate the trade. I also said that I was skeptical, and for good reason. Well, I am now just about OK with it. The Bills finally have a good OL, a young budding star QB, and what I think will be a fine backup. 3) It looks like they want to provide weapons to Josh, and prepare for him to get injured and have Fromm step in. What a great concept!!!! Chances are that a running QB like Josh WILL get hurt, no? They might actually be prepared for this now. 4) We might even be stronger at RB! 5) Don't you love the fact that Josh and Fromm are different style QBs? I mean really, how great is that? Opposing coaches will have to change their game plans if we are forced to switch. 6) Congrats Bills Fans. Our organization finally appears to be making sense. 7) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Defensive Backs in Top 10 of Round 1
Bill from NYC replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dave, thanks for the kind words. Before I respond, do know that for just so long I have anxiously read, enjoyed, and learned from your posts. This being a given, I 100% disagree with the bolded. Tre was not the best pick. In fact, imo he was clearly a bad pick. We walked away from a SB winner and another potentially great QB. Gilmore was another bad pick. Our team sucked and his play was unspectacular and lackluster, until he got to a clearly superior team. As our friend Badol said, the draft is a process. It is also part of the process of team building. BPA is very tough to argue with but it has become trite imo. The idea is to build a winning team, not to draft players who are "good" and continue to lose. My GF is a Giant Fan. I actually predicted their 1st and 2nd Round picks. Now, she thinks that I am smart lol. I LOVED both picks. They took an OT who I think will be a great one. In round 2 they took a safety Dave. Yes, I AM partial to Bama players but I watched every play of McKinnie's career. The kid is a smart, wonderful player. Saban glowingly talks about him, and he played this season on a not so great Bama defense. I am skeptical about the Bills trade for Diggs, but my lack of seeing him play disqualifies me from making a pertinent remark. I think/hope that the Bills have turned the corner in terms of stupidity. They appear to have jumped off of the first round DB roller coaster. Thanks again and GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Defensive Backs in Top 10 of Round 1

In 2003, 2004, and 2005, their first pick was a receiver. In most years they just picked the wrong players, not necessarily the wrong positions. For instance, Fairly was GREAT in college but didn't do much in the NFL. That said, letting a talented DB walk and replacing him with a #3 is just stupid. It is exactly what the Bills used to do. -

This was a portion of what I was trying to get across with my OP. Stupidity is the norm for the Lions and Jags. -
If you see me walking down the street And I start to cry each time we meet Walk on by, walk on by Make believe That you don't see the tears Just let me grieve In private 'cause each time I see you I break down and cry And walk on by (don't stop) And walk on by (don't stop) And walk on by

It can be if you luck out and the weather is good. I once saw CSN there and it was freaking pouring!!! Another time I saw Furthur and sat in the expensive seats and it was one of the best shows that I ever attended. We saw Sting, Lynard Skynard and many other bands there and it is a good venue, weather permitting. We have tickets for Alanis in July that cost a lot of money. The truth is, I don't want to go. Would you? I can't imagine sitting next to unknown people who are infected with who knows what. It is one thing to do it at work. This s%^$t is very confusing. -

Why is it that you see fit to be so condescending? Does it make you feel better about yourself? I hope that you are happier and more satisfied in life than you appear to be in this thread. Stay healthy and God bless. -

Did you see the Super Bowl that the Rams won? Pace pretty much took over the very close game. Warner was good but imo it would be a huge mistake to think that not having to worry about his blind side did not have a drastic positive effect on his play. I do however think that I get why you are trying to say. I don't think that any one person was totally responsible for the success of a franchise. This would not be possible. Were the players that I mentioned instrumental in making their teams much better? Absolutely. -

I always thought it would be fun to see James Taylor. We saw him at Jones Beach 2 or 3 years ago and he was simply awful. His performance was lackluster and he even told boring stories between songs. We left halfway through the show. -

Von Miller Orlando Pace Larry Fitzgerald Bruce Smith Earl Campbell Jonathan Ogden These guys were pretty important to their teams to name a few. -

Thanks for the football dialogue but please spare me your emotional guidance and worry about improving your own rather boring drivel. -

Yeah and they didn't do so well at it. They also seemed to emphasize DT over pass rushers. And of course, teams have to be able to evaluate players. We should know after decades of incompetence. -

Doesn't it depend on the team. I am guessing not at #3 when your team is filled with holes and there are great players out there. What do you think? Btw, is there any situation where it is too early or ill advised to draft a DB. Should teams trade up to #1 to take them? -

I love conversations like this. Unless I was running to a men's room, I am thinking that I watched every play Of Wills' college career. He is very good and steady but he seemed to lose concentration and have a lot of penalties called on him. It would drive Saban nuts. He is not what jumps out at me in terms of a top 5 or even 10 OT. Now we are getting into Orlando Pace territory. From what I saw, Thomas appears to be noticeably stronger. I am THE Crimson Tide Fan but agreed with Gettleman's choice. I hope I'm wrong because Wills was a very good player and I appreciate what he did for Bama. -

I suppose that I would have taken Andrew Thomas. He shows signs of true greatness and could protect your QB and open up the run for many years. I am NOT saying that the corner isn't good, or even great. I don't know. What I do know that a trip on the defensive back merry go-round where you draft them early, lose them, and draft another one is a proven, guaranteed method to lose. I have seen it too many times. -

My GF is a huge Giant Fan and converted Crimson Tide Fan who even watches Bama games with me. When it was the Giants turn to pick, I told her that they should draft Andrew Thomas (and it was fun to look smart ). She wanted Jeudy because she saw him play all season. Thomas is a beast and will protect their rookie QB. They probably could have traded back and drafted Jeudy but at least they went in the right direction. There is probably a 90% chance. -

I find it amazing that the same teams seem to just continue their senseless, losing ways. These owners are rich beyond imagination. Are all of them actual billionaires? How they got to be just so wealthy when they can't see their way past these dumb, easy to correct mistakes is beyond me. -

I am a huge fan of Tua but either way, taking a chance on a qb who might be great does make sense. The owner will make a TON of money if Tua pans out too so yeah, I can relate to the move but a corner at #3? Yikes! -
I was not surprised to see the Jaguars and the Lions draft Top 10 first round DBs. Why not? Because one can make a case that these particular teams are long time second rate organizations. Their drafts are every bit as bad as ours in the "bad old days" or so it would seem. The Lions were just so bad that they picked at #3. Could one even imagine how many problems they had to pick so early? They have a QB with a monster arm and there were receivers galore. They probably could have traded down and selected Lamb, Ruggs or Jeudy AND acquired extra picks but no; they really had to take that corner at #3. There were very good blockers available, and they could have even taken a QB to eventually replace Stafford. Incredible. The Jags are another team that historically drafts poorly. They have issues galore. Their method of fixing said issues? A DB at #9. While unquestionably stupid, it was not quite on the same level of idiocy displayed by the ever horrible Lions, who would even appear to be tanking for Trevor. I am on record as being skeptical of the trade for Diggs, but it looks wonderful compared to the above decisions. GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AJ had a better OL, maybe the best ever, AND a much better defense that the 2019 Crimson Tide. Nothing to see here. Because the Dolphins didn't draft him.
