When Kadlecik left Dark Star orchestra and joined Furthur, they were great. This band brought me back into Dead music. BTW their drummer (Joe Russo) was better than the GD drummers and the keyboard player (Jeff Chimenti) was comparable to Brent. Seriously. They got rid of John and went with Trey Anastasio and sounded horrible imo. Then, they brought in Mayer who has talent, but this is not Grateful Dead music imo. Bottom line? They went commercial and sold out. We have a local band in NYC and mostly Long Island called "Half Step" that is very popular and does a good job. I still like to see John K when he comes around.

Melvin Seals and the JGB are still around. I saw them with John Kadlecik playing lead guitar. John is a fantastic guitarist and a nice guy. I met him several times. John is now playing full time and touring with Melvin and the band. At least he was before this horrible crisis.

If I recall, I saw them in the late 70s at a big club in Nassau County called "My Father's Place." This club recently re-opened. For some reason I cannot remember what year it was.

Yes but when they split for a while, Weir was in a group called "Kingfish" and they were great. Dave Torbet (from the New Riders) played bass and was a great singer. Bob played rhythm, the band was sensational.

That was an amazing article John. Those were some crazy compliments in the end as well. Remember, Tua came to Alabama because he felt like the exposure might get him a better contract so he could build a church for his dad, who is a minister. Saban, not the most affectionate type, gets misty eyed just talking about Tua. One time Tua actually put his arm around Saban who looked uncomfortable but didn't move away lol.

Yes he was. He was also a RT (as opposed to McKinnie being a LT) who had weight issues and a chronic ankle problem. When you weigh 360 or more pounds (which I think MW did despite his listed weight), it is hard to fix a bad ankle. I was screaming for months for the Bills to draft McKinnie. I am not supposed to know more than the Bills GM, scouting staff, and coaches. I am just so happy that times have changed.

Bob, the thing is that the 2006 draft was absolutely loaded with talent, and at positions of need for the Bills. Whitner was an ok player. He also cost the Bills approx. 36 million real cap dollars. How many games did he win for us? Whitner doesn't belong on the list because of the title of the thread, but an undersized "good" safety should not be drafted at #8. In that sense, picking Whitner was stupid and amateurish. They lucked into Kyle Williams in the 5th. Other than that the entire draft was a disgrace. Jmo.

Good point and let me add that Winston and BB would never, ever get along imo. Did you see Winston on that pre-season series? He was so freaking annoying I had to turn it off. I don't think that BB would, or even could put up with Winston and his endless motor mouth under any conditions.
