  1. Going to plant a weeping willow On the banks green edge it will grow, grow, grow Sing a lullaby beside the water Lovers come and go, the river roll, roll, roll Fare you well, fare you well I love you more than words can tell Listen to the river sing sweet songs To rock my soul
  2. Very sad news. I hope that he did not suffer. RIP Mr. Smith.
  3. We are lucky that Whaley and Rex didn't draft him, although they did use their 2015 1st pick (2nd round #18) on an outstanding corner....Ronald Darby, who had quite the stellar career. In 2014, Whaley traded away two first round picks to move from 9th to 4th in order to draft Sammy Watkins, while the quarterbacks were Tyrod Taylor, Matt Cassell, and EJ Manuel. Oh and just to be nice, Whaley threw in a 4th rounder as well. Young Bills Fans will hopefully never have to suffer as hard and as long as we older fans did.
  4. So true. I remember Parcells saying that the reason he drafted Kevin Mawae was Ted Washington. Ted was a flat out GREAT player.
  5. I pulled in to Nazareth Was feeling 'bout half past dead I just need someplace Where I can lay my head "Hey, mister, can you tell me Where a man might find a bed?" He just grinned and shook my hand "No" was all he said Take a load off, Fanny Take a load for free Take a load off, Fanny And (And, and) You put the load right on me (You put the load right on me)
  6. Matt, I do get your point. But what (at least imo) HAS to be factored in was that we needed a quarterback desperately. We had been seriously lacking at that position since Kelly retired, unless you want to count Bledsoe for one half season. You saw the list above of the QBs on our roster in 2017. We needed a QB far more than a cornerback. People can make the case that other teams passed on Mahomes and this is true. Still, it was up to a well paid McDermott to recognize Mahomes' talent. Some of the posters on this board were furious. In subsequent drafts, McDermott continued to go after defensive players with early picks, twice even trading up in round one for them, and also drafting a DT at #9. Again, I am more than happy with Josh Allen. He is one of my all time favorite players but this isn't the point that I'm tryimg to make. I am simply making the case that this was an ill advised trade.
  7. Here is what seems to be the most accepted formula. Google it and see for yourself how often this formula comes up. https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2014/5/8/5683486/nfl-draft-trade-value-chart This chart doesn't list the value of the following year's picks but it does list the Bills #10 at 1,300 for a return of 786 (for picks 27 and 91). Even if the 2018 pick closed the gap somewhat, does the fact that the Bills were in desperate need for a quarterback escape you? The following is the 2017 Bills roster. It lists 3 QBs: 1) Tyrod Taylor 2) Nate Peterman 3) Joe Webb https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/buf/2017_roster.htm Does this appear to you to be a team that needed a cornerback more than a quarterback? If so, please help me understand your conclusion. Do ya think that KC Fans dislike ther fact that McDermott handed them a certain HOF QB, one of the best ever? Really, try to be serious. You may see those of us who think this was an almost indescribably stupid deal as being "nonsensical. Frankly I find this comment to be rude and presumptous but that's just me. Am I happy with Josh? Very happy!!!! We are extremely lucky that he fell to us, unless of course you think that McDermott planned this at the time of the trade. In any case, welcome to TSW.
  8. Everybody's talkin' at me I don't hear a word they're sayin' Only the echoes of my mind People stoppin', starin' I can't see their faces Only the shadows of their eyes I'm goin' where the sun keeps shinin' Through the pourin' rain Goin' where the weather suits my clothes Bankin' off of the northeast winds Sailin' on summer breeze And skippin' over the ocean like a stone
  9. He can't. By now he is probably waving his pom poms, wearing an unusual outfit. What would the equation be on McDermott's trade of the #10 pick (Mahomes) to KC?
  10. John and Mitchy were gettin' kind of itchy just to leave the folk music behind Zal and Denny workin' for a penny tryin' to get a fish on the line In a coffee house Sebastian sat and after every number they passed the hat McGuinn and McGuire just are gettin' higher in L.A. you know where that's at And no one's getting fat except Mama Cass
  11. Take me for a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship, When my hands can't feel to grip, and my toes too numb to step, Wait only for my boot heels to be wandering. I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for today, Untill my own parade cast your dancing spell my way, I promise to go under it.
  12. Lilac rain, unbroken chain Song of the saw-whet owl Out on the mountain, it'll drive you insane Listening to the winds howl Unbroken chain of sorrow and pearls Unbroken chain of sky and sea Unbroken chain of the western wind Unbroken chain of you and me
  13. 100% true. What should we as fans and posters on TSW do? A) Whenever the Bills do someting, strenuously agree. Here, I'll try.....Donte Whitner was a great pick because the Bills scouts know more than me. Does that work? B) Maybe we should never post at all because our opinions are invalid. Why? Because McDermott/Beane are great beyond question. I'll try again.....It was smart for McDermott to trade the Mahomes pick for a low return and draft a corner instead of one of the greatest QBs of all time. This is a message boards. Message boards are made to share opinions and interact with other fans, not to be altars of blind worship.
  14. I don't want to straight-face you Race or chase you, track or trace you Or disgrace you or displace you Or define you or confine you All I really want to do Is, baby, be friends with you
  15. Spiller was pure garbage. Just another ill advised draft pick. He had a few good games but he couldn't block, was not a good receiver, and he barely knew what direction to run.
  16. I am probably older than you. After the rule changes (2010?) I had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the new style of NFL passing based football. At the time I thought that was Arena League stuff. Now, it is impossible to deny what the NFL has become. Everybody makes mistakes but you just don't trade down from 10 to 27 and draft a corner when you DESPERATELY need a QB. In subsequent drafts we then traded UP for an ILB and another corner in round one. It's just very hard for me to not think that these were McDermott type moves given his history. It just seems like a logical assumption to me. Either way, GO BILLS!!!!
  17. Good post, thank you. I truly do hope you are right. I suppose that my nature is just more pessimistic than yours.
  18. This is true, but you left out the part about the Bills being desperate for a QB and McDermott trading the #10 pick (for scant return) all the way down to 27 and thus giving the Chiefs a dynasty with Mahomes. And before you tell me how many other teams passed on Mahomes, I don't care. We needed a QB desperately and McDermott not only screwed it up, he created a monster in a conference rival. McDermott got Beane the job. Or, do you think that he just drifted in from the Panthers? Let me make this clear: Your posts are great and you certainly are an asset to this board. To take it even a step further, you would be a huge plus to ANY football page, Bills or otherwise. That said, I will never quite grasp how you could think that Beane is the primary decision maker wrt the draft or perhaps even trades. My guess is that wrt trades, McDermott decided that Diggs had to go (a decision I was fine with btw) and told Beane to get the best deal he could. Would you agree with this take or do you think the decision was all on Beane?
  19. Will you stay with me? Will you be my love? Among the fields of barley We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we lie in fields of gold See the west wind move like a lover so Upon the fields of barley Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth Among the fields of gold
  20. Well, that clinches it. McDermott is 100% validated, now beyond question. He "tricked" the Super Bowl winners into getting the speedy wide receiver they wanted, (the fact that the Bills were in dire need of one notwithstanding), and now said receiver appears to have a seemingly minor injury. Thanks McD!!! At least we have a new safety and a 6'2" Defensive Tackle who will "lead the team." What would we do without you Coach?
  21. Shaking in the garden, the fear within you grows, Here there may be roses, to punch you in the nose. Put my arms around you, love you til you cry, Wrap you in your sweet perfume and squeeze you 'til you die. When push comes to shove, you're afraid of love. RIP Robert Hunter
  22. I spent a little time on the mountain Spent a little time on the hill Things went down, we don't understand But I think in time we will Now, I don't know but I was told In the heat of the sun a man died of cold Keep on coming or stand and wait With the sun so dark and the hour so late
  23. I've called you so many times today And I guess it's all true what your girlfriends say That you don't ever want to see me again And your brother's gonna kill me, and he's six feet ten I guess you'd call it cowardice But I'm not prepared to go on like this I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing you I can't stand losing you I can't stand losing you I can't stand losing you
  24. I'm going to run with: Marcus Spriggs - Guard James Hardy- Wide Receiver They would add depth to the offensive line and fill in the void at WR.
  25. Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up In the morning when the day is new? After having spent the day together Hold each other close the whole night through But happy times together we've been spending I wish that every kiss was never-ending Oh, wouldn't it be nice?
