GDT: National Championship: Georgia at Alabama 8:00pm ESPN
Bill from NYC replied to Nextmanup's topic in College Football
Congrats to UGA and their fans for a well deserved victory. They are a great team with a great coach. If all goes well The Crimson Tide will be back next year healthy and improved. -
My argument consists of far more than that. It would seem as if all non-playoff teams would lose money, some quite a bit. In any event, thanks for the well wish. I think that our best chance at beating them is with our defense. They couldn't stop our offense last time but that doesn't mean anything. The Tide needs to execute and forget the past.

Any other degenerates sign up for NYS On line betting?
Bill from NYC replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall
If so, that sucks. On straight up bets, old time bookies had a 5% take, assuming that bettors will win 50% of their bets. 7 1/2% seems excessive, no? -

I'm sorry, I don't understand the bold. -
Correct me if I am wrong, but would the above result in non playoff teams playing less games per season? If so, this would cost these schools a ton of money, no?

So did I. Cincy's biggest DL was 285 lbs, so I knew that Bama would run all day and the total would be under. I also made GA a strong play. When you play a daily number for 1 dollar and hit for $500, there is no proof that you won. You can even buy multiple tickets and cash them in intervals. It just seems to me that these bets are online and records are kept. I don't know how this will work. If one had to pay tax on winning bets, you would be better off with a bookie (if you can find one). -

Are they taking it from the bettors or the bookie's profits? OK, but are winning bettors expected to declare the profits? -

In the attics of my life Full of cloudy dreams; unreal Full of tastes no tongue can know And lights no eye can see When there was no ear to hear You sang to me

Upon the roof we heard the gentle rain With the rhythm of our heartbeats, down it came As it hit each rock our hearts could feel the pain No one on earth can stop a drop of rain And the river gets wide, the river gets long now The water runs deep, as our love gets strong now So baby don't you fight and say you belong now To me

Well, I wonder if I'm dreaming I feel so unashamed I can't believe this is happening to me Oh I watch you when you're sleeping And then I want to take your love Oh, won't you, show me the way, yeah I want you, to show me the way

A more appropriate response would have been that you THINK that he is wrong. Newsflash: People can disagree with your opinionated, vague declarations and not be "wrong" just because you think that they are.

Giants GM Dave Gettleman to retire on Monday
Bill from NYC replied to Greg S's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree but he does have roots here, or at least he used to. My fiancee once sat next to him at a parent conference at a school on Long Island. She said he was polite and reserved. This was many years and at least 1 marriage ago lol. -

Yeah, that move rivaled the draft day stupidity of Rich Kotite and Marv Levy. Do you think that he would accept the job if offered? -
For those who do not know, Ridley had a very tough childhood. His father was deported to Guyana when Calvin was 7 years old. His mom had issues of her own, so Calvin and his brother Riley spent a few years in a foster home. After Calvin signed his contract, he went back to the place where he played football during those years and made a donation. That told me good things about this young man. I don't know exactly what happened to him in Atlanta. What I DO know is that he plays hard to the point of giving it his all on every play. I say this having watched his entire college career. He has great hands and runs great routes. Calvin is very quick and very hard to cover. He also came through in the clutch time and again at Alabama. Again, I don't know what is happening with him now. What I do know is that a receiver like him would be wonderful for Josh Allen and the Bills, providing of course that the man is OK.

OK, but a kid like Bryce Young can put his name in the portal and shop around from school to school to get more money. This doesn't protect the school or the boosters. Also, there are some pretty good players who don't see a dime, while some of their teammates are making big bucks. I am not trying to appear as if I have all the answers, but the system seems weird to me.
-
I too advocate for the players. I strongly object to extra games. That said, the portal thing is a bit much in some ways (imo). Right now, a player can break his NIL contract and switch year to year. Even NFL players cannot do this. Also, other than the stars, many players will not see a dime. I think that the system need work. Jmo.
-
How do you figure that? In what way do you think it will improve? I don't necessarily disagree but I am not sure where you are going.
-
They were saying this yesterday and today on ESPNU/Sirius. The portal is yet another thing that Saban warned us about. Of course he adapted, and there is just no way we would have made the playoffs without Williams and To'o To'o. Now, he is warning about expanding playoffs but he doesn't seem to be protesting too loud.
-
Teams can talk to players AFTER they place themselves in the portal.

You say I'm a dreamer, we're two of a kind Both of us searching for some perfect world We know we'll never find So perhaps I should leave here Yeah, yeah, and go far away But you know that there's nowhere that I'd rather be than with you here today Oh, whoa, oh, whoa Hold me now, whoa Warm my heart Stay with me Let loving start
