A Jacksonville article
Phlegm Alley replied to Chalkie Gerzowski's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is no doubt that Tebow is a 1st round pick. Tebow is going to be a fine football player IMHO. It may not be entirely at QB, but he just won't accept failure as an option. -
PFW audibles - Bills v. Pats
Phlegm Alley replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You could argue that if POZ doesn't get hurt in that game, those completions for TDs never happen. As a result of the POZ injury, Ellison was manning the MLB position on those plays the Paytoilets scored in the 4th. -
I just watched Coach Jauron's PC from today.
Phlegm Alley replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that Jauron hasn't had a fair shake at succedding here in Buffalo. I look at the drafts that the Bills have had, the FA pick ups (or lack there of), the quality of coaches that Jauron has surrounded himself with, and they haven't been the best. To me, most of the blame for this falls squarely on the shoulders of the Front Office and ownership. However, when people talk about the lack of talent and the injuries that the Bills have had resulting in Jauron's tenure being mired in mediocrity, I think of the near talentless team the Dolphins had last year following a 1 win season and with a new regime including HC. If the Dolphins can turn their fortunes around and improve their win total by 10 from the previous year, there are no excuses that Jauron and company can surround themselves with to exonerate their lack of success here in Buffalo. -

I wouldn't kick her outta bed for eating crackers. -
Hargrove was a former Bill before he got into some trouble. I saw last week that he almost had an INT at the LOS. I root for Hargrove...he's always brought a lot of energy whenever he's played.

How Do We Beat Brees this week?
Phlegm Alley replied to billsguy512's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After watching the Saints play last week, the 2 times Brees was sacked wasn't becasue of the Eagles sending extra men. It was because the timing of the WRs route was thrown off because the WR couldn't get off the LOS forcing Brees off of his primary receiver. This caused him to try and buy more time in the pocket and allowed the Eagles DL to get penetration to bring him down. The key is to have our CBs play physical at the LOS and not allow them a clean break at the start of the play. Another key is to stop the passes in the flats. The TEs routes are run in conjunction with the RBs routes, forcing the safeties and LBs to choose one or the other. Stopping these plays will be primary becasue they are essentially an easy completion for Brees and almost like a long hand off. This is where the effective tackling is going to play a huge role. Remember this play? That's what we need to do. They also like to do PA passes and roll out Brees. Who ever has backside contain is going to have to be disciplined to hold their position and not bite on the fake, then get in Brees' face and force him to throw over a taller lineman. The Eagles did this effectively (only after they were beat by a TD pass) and got an INT. -
no wonder ravens suck part deux
Phlegm Alley replied to tennesseeboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You obviously haven't read that we signed Jamon Meredith off the Packer's practice squad. He would run circles around OHER! In all honesty...who cares about the Ravens and their still wet behind the ears draft pick. Give it some time before you start making comparisons. -
Week 2 a strange one in the NFL
Phlegm Alley replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It kinda disproves the theory that you have to run and stop the run in the NFL to win. INDY did neither and they won. TEN lost despite having 3 plays of 50+ yards by Chris Johnson. DAL lost because Romo threw 2 INTs that were returned for TDs. There are a lot of ways to win in the NFL. -
Hold on here...time for a Saints reality check.
Phlegm Alley replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree on all points. One thing I noticed while watching the Saints/Iggles game on Sunday was a boneheaded coaching move on Andy Reid's part to give the Saints, and their high powered offense, the ball back with under 2 minutes remaining in the second quarter, with the game tied, 10-10. The Eagles were pinned deep in their own territory (at their own 2 yard line). The Saints had 2 time outs. The Eagles ran on 1st and 2nd downs and gained a total of 3 yards. The Saints called a time out after each Eagles run. It was now 3rd and 7 with 1:33 left on the clock before the half, the Eagles had the ball inside their own 5 yard line, with a QB making his first career start, in a tied ball game agianst a team with a dominant offense that will make you pay. Conventional wisdom would tell you to run the ball, running the clock to about 45 seconds in the half, right? ANdy Reid opted for the pass, which was nearly picked off, resulting in PHI having to punt, and leaving 1:20 on the clock and only 54 yards for Drew Brees to lead his team down the field for the TD. NOLA scored only 2 plays later making it 17-10. PHI kicked a FG before the half, but instead of it being a possible 3 point lead, it was a 4 point lead going into the half. To me, it was a major turning point in the game. -
I have a feeling that this was ALL Buddy Nix. Before he came to Buffalo from San Diego, he was the South Eastern region scout for them. IMHO, Nix still specializes on players from that part of the country and with Meredith having gone to U South Carolina, I believe it was Nix who spotted him. Nix is pretty good at scouting OTs too. He found Marcus McNeil, who went to the Pro Bowl as a rookie a few years ago.

DS just can't stay healthy.

As well as some draw plays to move those DEs upfield to create natural running lanes.

the Saints Offense can be stopped

Great analysis. After watching the game, I posted my thoughts in another thread that echo some of what you mention in your post. http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/index.php?...t&p=1563252 -
I'm not going to disagree with a lot of posters are saying. Yes the Dolphins clock management was terrible. Yes Ted Ginn dropped his fare share of passes last night. Yes Pennington limits what this offense can do. I did notice that the Dolphins are a very physical running team with 2 backs that are similar in styles. Remember, they beat us handily last year both times and they started out 0-2 in 08' before going into New England and beating them with the Wildcat, which looked very impressive last night. As long as they play the 3-4 with Joey Porter, run the ball effectively and, Chad Pennington, no matter how noodle armed he is, he doesn't turn the ball over, they are a tough match-up for the Bills.

Trent 4th in QB rating after 2 games...
Phlegm Alley replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You gotta figure that if he continues to have a solid season, the Bills are going to have to lock him up long term. I think he gets a deal similar to the one that Matt Cassel got: 6 years for around $60 million. -
Josh Reed is a VERY poor man's Hines Ward.
-
If the players (ie TO) weren't so insistent, I bet he wouldn't have gone for it. The players, obviously felt confident, and they knew fully well that they were dominating the LOS and there was no way TB could stop them. Remember there was a 15 yard face mask penalty assessed on that play as well, further bettering our field position.

next week - Bills play a legitimately good team
Phlegm Alley replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I watched the Saint/Eagles game yesterday and there were a few things that I noticed. First, Brees was targeting his TEs early and often. They weren't running the ball that much early, and they had a lot of success getting the ball underneath. Secondly, when Brees was harassed, it was because of coverage in the secondary. It wasn't becasue the Eagles were sending extra guys. It was because the coverage in the secondary threw the timing off of some plays. Third, Brees is a short guy. His interception was a result of a DLineman getting his hands up and batting the ball down. The Bills need to get their hands up in the passing game. Fourth, the Saints took advantage of turnovers to start the second half. It was a pretty close game late in the second quarter, however, the combination of some poor coaching by ANdy Reid, along with some TOs early in the second half changed the game big time. One of the biggest mistakes the Eagles made, was when they had the ball deep in their own territory with 1:32 remaining in the second quarter. They had a third and long. They ran the ball on 1st and 2nd down, forcing NO to take 2 time outs with hopes that they would get enough time to score before the half ended. Andy Reid, then called a pass play that was incomplete, stopping the clock and forcing the Eagles to punt to NO, with a lot of time on the clock and 1 TO remaining. They went on to score before the half, changing what was a fairly close game into a pretty big advantage for NO and forcing the Eagles to play catch-up with a backup QB the rest of the game. The Eagles also had a lot of success running the wildcat as well. I'm not sure if the Bills would be so inclined to do so, but success can be had. -
What's your lock pick for today's game?
Phlegm Alley replied to PeteBills4ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would be tempted to take the Panthers who are underdogs at home even though they went undefeated at home last year. I also like Minnesota laying the points at CLE. I think Cleveland has one of the worst teams in the NFL. -
Take what Belicheat's injury report says with a grain of salt. All it is is a giant ruse.
-
I also think it was Ben's ability to pump fake his way out of trouble as well. Think about it. You're taught as a D-Lineman that if you can't get to the QB, get your hands up in the passing lane. Tennessee's D-Line thought that on numerous occasions that they weren't going to be able to get to BR so they just kept putting their arms up which bought BR more time in the pocket.

Post game press conference, Tomlin said it was a sprained MCL and he could be out anywhere from 3-6 weeks. That is an early prognosis and could change.

Car broken into in Indianapolis
Phlegm Alley replied to Phlegm Alley's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Did you have to provide reciepts for the items that were stolen? Unfortunately, my laptop was a gift as was my g/f's sound dock and after talking to the people that purchased the gifts for us, there are no reciepts available. -
Car broken into in Indianapolis
Phlegm Alley replied to Phlegm Alley's topic in Off the Wall Archives
No sir. We couldn't check into our hotel room until 3pm so we parked in an above ground parking lot around Noon that you had to pay to get into and then display the reciept on your dash. The parking lot seemed safe enough-it was bordered by a main street, we parked across from an unoccupied cop car, and in a location where there was a lot of foot traffic. We also covered all belongings in the back of the my girlfriends Ford Explorer with blankets to make sure that none of our items were displayed out in the open. -
I was in Indy this past weekend, and my girlfriend's car was broken into. The thieves smashed the back window and removed a number of different items, including my MacBook, a BOSE sound dock, a couple of iPods and a video camera. We filed a report with the police who came and documented everything with pictures, dusting for fingerprints, to asking us what was stolen. My girlfriend then talked to her insurance representative and he said that she needs to make out an itemized list of all items that were stolen because they should be covered by her homeowners insurance. The cop who filled out the police report asked us how much everything was worth and in doing so, I believe I undershot the value of some of the items involved. Would it be uncouth to call the cop back up (she gave us a phone number to call in case we forgot anything that turned up missing) and adjust some of the estimated costs for the items that were stolen? Also, to anyone who has had a similar incident occur to the them, are there any tips or advice pertaining to filing a claim with the insurance company? Thanks in advance.
