Mystic River. Another great movie.

"The River Wild" where he plays the bad guy. Evil Bacon.

Bruce Allen to be named Redskins G.M.
Phlegm Alley replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That was quick. I was hoping that with the announcement of Jauron being canned, similar results would soon follow (like this). Schefter just mentioned on SC that the Skins will probably make a major push to hire Shannahan as well. -
I'm surprised he doesn't have a nickname like "The Situation".

Bills claim Incognito
Phlegm Alley replied to In space no one can hear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The fact that the Dolphins attempted to put a claim in for him tells me that Parcells thought highly of him to take a chance on him. -
Driving Pet Peeves - Mine Deals With Changing Lanes
Phlegm Alley replied to Steely Dan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Here in Philly, yield signs are apparently optional and stop signs are really yield signs. Also, people have no idea how to merge into traffic. My girlfriend and I believe the solution to this is to have a sign with a picture of a zipper, because that is essentially what a correct merge looks like. -
If Perry got a fresh start with a healthy Bills team
Phlegm Alley replied to SpecialK15's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wonder how much all of this "success" that everyone is saying this team is having is attributed to the emergence of Fewell, or the fact that this team and certain individuals on it are playing hard not knowing if they're going to have a job next year when/if the new regime starts cleaning house. -
Did the Ravens and Falcons have to wait 5 years to "win again" after they drafted QBs in the 1st round two years ago?

I for one, am a little disappointed that Locker is not declaring. It just means that there is one person that is not going to get drafted in the top 10 before the Bills pick and one less person to fall to the Bills that they could draft. I still think that he should've declared as other posters have said, he will be losing a lot of money if he doesn't live up to the hype next year. I also think that the posters who say the Bills will not be drafting a QB in in the 1st round in next year's draft because they picked up Brohm are out of their farking minds. The front office, who plucked this practice squad player from another team who hasn't taken a snap in the NFL, is more than likely not going to have a job within the Bills organization next year. Whoever the new regime is will determine if Brohm is worth a shiite and if they declare that he is not, then they will be looking for a QB somewhere in the first 3 rounds of the draft.

The best QB for the 2010 Bills...
Phlegm Alley replied to Armchair GM's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Plus he satisfies the Big Tuna's formula for drafting a QB: Bill Parcell's has a proven formula for drafting a QB. These are his criteria: 1. Must be a senior. 2. Must have started for 3 years, including his senior season. 3. Must have won 23 games in college 4. Decent tangibles, like height and arm strength. Other ones would be Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow. -

Another interesting note is that a player from the PAC-10, has never won the Heisman. EDIT: My bad. I quickly read this from Wikipedia and failed to read the first part of the sentence : From 1981 (Marcus Allen) to 2002 (Carson Palmer), not a single Pacific-10 Conference or other West Coast player won the Heisman Trophy.
-
No. The only primarily defensive player to win the Heisman was Charles Woodson, but he returned punts and occasionally played offense.

So the people who don't want a QB in the 1st round say that there isn't a QB worth taking with that top 10 pick, but there is a LT that is worth taking with that same pick? According to Mel Kiper's Big Board, he has one LT in his top 25 (I'm not saying that Mel Kiper is the end-all-be-all of draft prognosticating. I'm just using it as a general guideline) and that guy is Russell Okung. So if there is no franchise QB in this year's draft, what makes you guys so sure there is a franchise LT in this year's draft?

Polian weighs in on Tebow
Phlegm Alley replied to Solomon Grundy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is the biggest smoke screen in the history of smoke screens. It's pretty obvious that Polian is just saying this so that everyone passes on him until the Colts pick so they can select him to supplant Peyton Manning as the starter in Indy. -
Jake Locker - might be staying in school
Phlegm Alley replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he comes out. Most guys who are unsure about whether to do so or not, usually come back to try an win a national championship. UW is not going to win one next year and if he grades out to a top 10 pick, why come back for a Sr year when you could jeopardize getting injured or underperforming, thus ruining your potential high draft status. A bird in hand is better than two in the bush. Plus, this may be the last year there is no rookie salary cap, so even if he returns to school and improves his draft status as the #1 overall pick in the 2011 draft, he probably would make less money than if he were a top 10 pick this year. -
Ramius would be proud.

Hey, did anyone see ProBowler Jason Peters today?
Phlegm Alley replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We need to resurrect the "beating the dead horse" emoticon because every time a Jason Peters thread is started, it dumbs down the entire TBD community. -
If you look at just last year alone, Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco both lead their teams to the playoffs after being thrust into the starting role their rookie years. And this year, Sanchez, albeit horrible at times, has lead his team to a .500 record and are currently in the playoff hunt. It was widely agreed upon that the Lions are in far worse shape and for Stafford to turn that team around in a year would be nothing short of a miracle. he has, however, set the rookie single game record for most passing yards in a game (422) and passing TDs (5) against the Browns a couple weeks back, and he showed a great level of toughness in doing so. No doubt a lot is going to change between now and the draft. I'm sure you're going to see some risers a la Cutler a few years back and the same can be said with Sanchez just last year. But this year is going to be really interesting with regard to QBs in the draft because there are so many that had a great deal of success at the collegiate level.
-
Correct. I also noticed that a few QBs (Brady, Hasselbeck, Schaub), were drafted in the later rounds, not to be starting QBs, but to fill a back up role because they were drafted with franchise QBs already on their team's roster (Bledsoe, Favre, and Vick).

I wanted to get an idea of where QBs were generally selected so I listed all current starting QBs in the NFL and where and when they were drafted. I added up all their overall draft positions and divided it by 32 to get me an average draft position (ADP). For the sake of #'s, all 3 undrafted QBs were given an arbitrary value of 250. Here is a list of all current starting QBs in the NFL and where they were drafted: Tom Brady: 6th round/#199 overall Peyton Manning: 1st round/#1 overall Drew Brees: 2nd round/#32 overall Philip Rivers: 1st round/#4 overall Ben Roethlisberger: 1st round/#11 overall Eli Manning: 1st round/#1 overall Aaron Rodgers: 1st round/#24 overall Tony Romo: Undrafted Kurt Warner: Undrafted Carson Palmer: 1st round/#1 overall Donovan McNabb: 1st round/#2 overall Ryan Fitzpatrick: 7th round/#250 overall Jay Cutler: 1st round/#11 overall Brett Favre: 2nd round/#33 overall Matt Schaub: 3rd round/#90 overall Matt Cassel: 7th round/#230 overall Jake Delhomme: Undrafted Chad Henne: 2nd round/#57 overall Mark Sanchez: 1st round/#5 overall Matt Hasselbeck: 6th round/#184 overall Alex Smith: 1st round/#1 overall Mark Bulger: 6th round/#168 overall Brady Quinn: 1st round/#22 overall Josh Freeman: 1st round/#17 overall Matt Stafford: 1st round/#1 overall Jason Campbell: 1st round/#25 overall Bruce Gradkowski: 6th round/#194 overall Matt Ryan: 1st round/#3 overall Joe Flacco: 1st round/#18 overall Vince Young: 1st round/#3 overall David Garrard: 4th round/#108 overall Kyle Orton: 4th round/#106 overall The average draft position of starting QBs in the NFL is 79.7, which is about the 15th pick in the 3rd round. Of these starting QBs, 17 were drafted in the 1st round. Of those that were drafted in the 1st round, their average draft position was 8.8 overall. 3 QBs were taken in the 2nd round 1 QB was taken in the 3rd round 2 QBs were taken in the 4th round None were taken in the 5th round 4 QBs were taken in the 6th round 2 QBs were taken in the 7th round 3 QBs were undrafted I know the Bills have a lot of holes to fill, but if they get a top 10 pick, the numbers show that if they drafted a QB with that pick, they would be better off than waiting til the later rounds to try and find that franchise QB.

It's Official, Clausen Entering The Draft
Phlegm Alley replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that I am not a huge fan of Clausen (primarily because of his Wanker-Punk-ness), but I do think the cold weather QB argument is a bit overrated, and I do think that Clausen is going to be an extremely successful QB in the NFL. You only have to look at tonight's MNF game to declare that argument iffy at best. Aaron Rodgers (who Clausen reminds me an awful lot of) was a JUCO transfer to U Cal back in 2003 and started a total of 23 games at UCal before declaring himself eligible for the draft after his Junior season. Maybe all those years lying in wait to become the heir apparent to Brett Favre taught him a thing or two, but he is a having an awful lot of success behind an offensive line that is worse than the Bills' and he didn't play in nearly as many games as Clausen and played (and grew up) in a climate that was a lot more favorable than South Bend. Here are Rodgers' career stats at UCal: Passing Rushing Year Comp Att Pct Yds YPA Td Int Rate Att Yds Avg Td 2003 Cal 215 349 61.6 2903 8.3 19 5 146.58 86 210 2.4 5 2004 Cal 209 316 66.1 2566 8.1 24 8 154.35 74 126 1.7 3 Totals 424 665 63.8 5469 8.2 43 13 150.27 160 336 2.10 8 The thing is Sen, QBs from East Brady PA only come around once in a lifetime and as much as I would like to see a QB with the cold weather pedigree of Jim Kelly, I just don't know if this franchise has the time to wait for someone like that to come around.
