Star is OUT for Steelers game
Fan in Chicago replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is not a good start to the season for him. After the off year and the light workload in TC, he should have been fully healthy for the opener. In a way, glad we get to test our upgraded D without his presence. We dont want to find out in the playoffs. I am not particularly concerned about JJ Watt as the team did a decent job against him last year. Cam Heyward was wrecking havoc in the first quarter or so and we adjusted well too. -

Comes down to situational awareness. Two ways McCarthy could have played this (assuming there was no way he would be able to totally burn the clock down given how the TB D was playing): - Run max time off the clock and give Brady less than 30 seconds. At that point, a FG may have been the right call - Do what you suggest. Given that there were 90 seconds on the clock with Brady at the other end, he should have seen that the odds of getting a 1st down are better than being able to stop Brady from driving to FG distance. At that point in the game, 90 seconds was more important. the extra 25 yards of field position were irrelevant as TB only needed a FG But either way, this was bad in-game coaching. The pre-half time play calling was terrible as well -

While a team with heavy reliance on the run game may not get deep in the playoffs, they will still see success when supported by a good D. Presumably, the Pats** are intending to do that till they know more about Jones' passing skills in real games. I know the days of run-dominated games are gone but there has to be a credible threat to run. Chews the clock, keeps the D honest, wears out a D, keeps an opposing high-powered offense off the field ..... The Bills certainly could have used a better run game last season. Their most credible threat cannot & should not be Allen. -
Fair point with the way I worded my post. What I did want to say is that if songs are targeted at a specific fan base, they should have a better beat and cause some excitement. This should be meant to be played loud, at game parties, during tailgating etc.

Eh. Pretty poor song if meant to be a "Shout" song. Needs a lot more rabble rousing feel to it

Lost in this discussion about the non call.... Pretty poor clock management by the Cowboys on their final drive. They should not have left so much time for Brady. Similar situation at the end of the first half where, despite Zeke, they should have run more. Too much reliance on the passing game. Yea, I know the TB defense is tough against the run but have to show variety on O. -

Stupid Prescott. I just started watching few minutes back. Why are the Cowboys not running the ball? They had plenty of time and 3 TOs on this drive. A couple of runs would have been good -
I want the Steelers team at full strength. We have to test out OL and DL to know if the off-season changes have been meaningful or not.

Kumerow has the height but not the bulk, else I would have speculated that Daboll is thinking about using him a hybrid TE/WR role -
Adding experienced depth at CB and S positions can be quite valuable as long as they dont go Vontae Davis on us.

Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 3
Fan in Chicago replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The game I had in mind was the playoff game against the Colts. Rivers skewered us. Also, seeing how the Pats** are built for this season, 2 TE and ground and pound is meant to challenge our D. I know it is too early to worry but run D & D against screens can kill us especially if BB exposes those weaknesses and we face similar teams in the playoffs. That the O will score plenty is not in doubt. -

I was unable to watch the game but I surmised from the GDT that Edmunds didnt have a good night. What is your assessment and how serious of an issue is the second level run defense? -
Two Bears fans said to be "Allen is over rated". In my best impersonation of my daughters' sarcastic responses, I said "K"

Two comments 1. I think Flacco has zero trade value and will be cut 2. The list of backup QBs around the league is terrible. If Fromm can grow into a decent backup, we should protect him this year assuming Trubisky will get a starting gig next year

Bills, Steelers week 1 temperature check

I started hearing this pretty recently too and chalked it up another addition to the ever growing list of consultant-y buzzwords. Boots on the ground pivot drill down leverage temperature check ... blah blah blah... -
Comparison to 90s SB teams
Fan in Chicago replied to BoccesOnTransit's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In the first few years, it was tough to know how many HOFers that team would have (Save for Bruce). By the same token, we may have several future HOFers on the current roster - we just dont know it yet. One aspect that hasnt been discussed yet is the coaching. AS it stands today, I will say McDermott looks to be better than Levy in terms of personnel management and individual coaching (on and off the field). You said it first -

If the Bills showcase him and Beane manages anything like a 5th, it will be wizardry. But you picked a good target team for him.
