I am falling asleep on the couch watching this boring game. It's time to go to bed.

Week 12: Bills at Lions on Thanksgiving

To a more patient , shorter passing game. In 3 games I have seen this year, they seem to have gone back to bigger plays -

Gee, coach. Did you just realize that? While you are at it, consider using Hines as a receiver too. If Josh continues with the patient/low risk game, I am actually fine with it. Just because you have a Ferrari doesn't mean you need to floor the gas every time. Mahomes/Reid changed their O strategy last season to much success and it is not a bad one for the Bills to imitate. -

Josh - "You want the effing ball? Here is the effing ball" -
I still think it was more than the lack of good WRs that caused the issues against the Jets and Vikings. Allen generally looked more confused and forced throws that he had stopped doing after his rookie year. I hope it was just as simple as a passing phase (heh) and not due to any personal issues or injuries. I was happy to see him be lot more conservative in the Browns game, but there will be games (perhaps as early as Thursday) where the deep passes and tight window throws will be needed. One of three things could happen, only one good: - Allen is too worried about pulling the trigger (lack of confidence due to 10 INTs) - Allen re-gains confidence but makes mistakes again - He re-gains confidence and we rain TDs on the Lions Lets see what happens in the remaining tougher games. To your other point, I joined the OBJ bandwagon late and that is due to there being too few other outside options. I would like to see Hines and Shakir more involved in the short passing game.

That sideline conversation looked like a mature, adult conversation between two passionate individuals -

This will be a tough game. I am not counting this as a gimme. Need to have an error free game as against the Browns. Was McD observed to be hiding a whip when leaving Dorsey's office? -
Wawrow hints an Internal Issues with the Bills

While I agree with your post, allow me to point out how ironic the bolded is, coming from you 😀 -
I do not fully disagree with you because there is still some cause for hope with this staff. But the question and debate is very much on point. Its a lot more difficult to get a very good QB than it is to get a good coach. After decades, we found our main man so kets not waste another 5 years waiting for the right coaches. That will be a monumental shame.

That is exactly the point of this debate. Many here (including me) now have doubts that this coaching staff is good enough to win the big one. Let me ask a simple question - when did you last see a Belichick led team make the stupid mistakes the Bills commit to end up losing games?
-
McD has done a good job so far but there are critical barriers to his coaching and personnel prioritization: - too many resources (drafts, FA) dedicated to one side of the ball - Maddening inability to win close games - getting outcoached in second half of too many games - letting coordinators free without a seeming ability to influence their plans and schemes with a Superbowl caliber roster, his teams lose too many critical games. The question right now is - is he the coach for us now while the window is open and Allen is young

Wawrow hints an Internal Issues with the Bills

Ha. I did actually miss the move re: John Butler. My suggestion for bringing in Reich is as an experienced coach and player (yea, I know Dorsey played too) who may be a more level headed voice than Dorsey. Look, I am not going to push this idea hard. I just see the O not being able to fix its issues and am looking for a solution, in this season, to avoid staying the same or getting worse. I cannot continue to blame the talent on the receiving side for the O's woes. We are not using all the personnel available with their skill set. Why is this happening in 2022 after the fantastic 2020 and 2021 seasons (ignore the 2-3 games of ineptitude). Whats wrong ? Why has Allen suddenly become careless? Where is clutch Allen? -

My claim is that the path to good success is shorter than we Bills fans have become accustomed to. -

What suggestions do you have to clear it? I am not getting the warm fuzzies that the combination of Dorsey and Allen wont regress to the bombs-away approach at inopportune times of critical games -

Yes, we now have an experienced HC who should have a much better handle on things. And the roster, by all measures, was superbowl worthy. We dont have time to waste it on coordinators who are not up to the task of the big challenges. Else we will forever keep generating excuses for incomplete seasons. Here is an idea for Beane: - Bring in Reich to supplement the offensive staff. Give him whatever title he wants but his role should be to define the game plans, whisper in Allen's ear and be the calming voice when the opposing D is having their way with the O. - Give Reich a degree of control over Dorsey and bring back the short/intermediate passing game which focuses on moving the chains methodically - Start using the pass catching talents of Singletary, Cook, Hines and Johnson - Sign OBJ as insurance for the playoffs - Consider (have to see if they are in game shape) evaluating Beasley and Sanders but only on the condition that their talents will be appropriately utilized -

For every Andy Reid, there is a Sean McVay who won the big game much earlier in his career. Siriani is showing his ability to quickly become a winning coach. We should be aiming to succeed like these coaches did and not like the Dungies and Reids of the work for who success came much later. Also, Reid didnt have a QB like Mahomes to work with earlier in his career. McD has Allen and it will be shame if the opportunity window is wasted. So. lets stop using such examples and aim higher. -

You don't? There is something very very wrong with the Offense. I can make a long list of things - refusal to stick with the running game, refusal to use pass catchers out of there backfield, no short play calls, inexplicably bad decision making by Allen week after week. -
More like "hold my wine"

Also situational awareness. If you are up two scores later in the 3rd Q and the O wants to put the game away so that Allen can warm the bench, then by all means take a risky shot or two. On the flip side, if the team is trailing by a lot (didn't happen with this D) then the only option is to keep trying for chunk yards. But due in part to the D, the past few games have been close. That is the time to play real smart and disciplined football. Something Belichick teams did very well during the Brady era. -

Agreed. The issue over the past 4 games is more with his head/decision making than any physical limitations. -
Allen is a tough dude. That has to factor into what it takes to keep him out. I do hope though that the run game is emphasized this time and he isnt asked to do too much with his arm.
