It seems that in lack of an adequate defense of Trent, you are resorting to attempting to go on a tangent. Yes, you did say that he did not do well but there is no reason to get so defensive about Trent.

I don't think the play calling deteriorated. I think once NO realized that all they have to defend is the short to medium end of the field, our success of the 1st Q went away. If Trent had attempted and completed a few medium to long throws, there would be a lot more opportunities for jackson to run and for the occasional screen.

Apart from the specific changes DJ made such as replacing Schonert and getting rid of Walker, Dockery etc., I have sensed something else about Jauron. In the two games this season, I surely saw emotion, a certain (dare I say it ?) swagger and smartness. Some decisions (going for it on 4th and 2) are not what we had come to expect from DJ. So in all, I may be imagining it, but DJ is appearing a bit more confident and acting more aggressively than in the past 3 years.

Then again, we have not faced any elite pass rushers so the jury is still out. Good news is that facing 'soft' defenses allows time for our brand spanking new OL to gel and get experience for the DE beasts later this season. Back to the OP, I doubt the decision to not get Runyan is about the money. I am not sure how much money he would command anyway.

Nice effort in summarizing the plays. As with any other team, we need to tackle well. I am concerned about Brees and co. exploiting the soft middle of the field. I sure hope Fewell puts in schemes to mask for that weakness. We will need turnovers and sustained scoring drives from our O to make a game of it. As was evident in yesterday's MNF game, controlling the clock by itself means little if you don't score lots of points against a high scoring opponent. We are at home and if we play a low mistake/penalty game, we have a real chance here. The Saints are one of the early darlings of the NFL and we have the potential to cause an upset.

Edwards is now playing a full game (except for the last 0:50 of the NE game) compared to even the first six games of last season. In those early games from last season, he left a good final impression because of some comeback victories. But in the 2 games of this season, he has been much more consistent. I am very encouraged by what I have seen so far. We will see how he performs (1) in poor weather, and (2) against more competent Ds

Blitzing doesn't always work and can cause big gains by opponent (see last TD by Manning last night). So, the DC needs to be very judicious in its use. I think Fewell used it in this case because we were playing with the lead and he did not respect Leftwich and the Bucs ability to burn us. He could not have taken that risk against Brady. Agreed that the prevent didn't work out for us but I don't believe blitzing would have been the answer. We just didn't do a good job of putting pressure with the front 4 on those last two drives.

Just don't say anything. Our player gets the votes and you just got more exposure for your page.

Not sure this has been mentioned yet. But perhaps our new OL is very good at opening up holes. I have really liked the patience, cut backs and his ability to find holes from Jackson. But we do need to see how Lynch performs behind this OL. In week 4, Lynch will be brought in for a few plays. He may have his starting job back in week 5 with the onus to prove that he deserves it. But I do agree with other posters that no matter which way the percent of carries falls, the team will get the most production from the position through the length of the season with both backs splitting carries.

We might need one of them if only for depth depending on how long Butler is going to be out.

With one game done, we should be in the bottom half of the league. Then consider the strength of the opponent, road game/home game and how close the game was. With all these criteria, the Bills, Bears and Bengals barely lost. So I give the Bills a 17 ranking, the Bears an 18 and Bengals a 29. Bills over the Bears as I am a Bills fan and Bengals a 29 'cos it looked like a nice number for them.
