Ooooh that will create quite the stir in Chicago. Though doubts about Cutler have occasionally surfaced in the chicago tribune, I haven't seen much mention of them looking at a QB. If a offensive minded HC selects a QB in the 1st round of a QB-weak class, it will be quite telling.

New coach, no Urlacher, no Roach. I think Chicago will be a D looking for an identity. IMHO, they will go D heavy in the draft.

Steve Johnson's interesting tweet.

The question is maturity. Lack of it will hurt the Bills in games. Penalties, maybe lack of concentration. Why do we need this distraction? As others have said, prove your Pats* hatred on the field. There was no reason or joke about wishing a foreign power to bomb an opponents stadium. None whatsoever. -

He is not in any legal trouble as Lynch used to get into. But he is a distraction of the sort that is not required. He was in check last season but this transgression makes me wonder if he will once again cause a stupid penalty or drop a catch that costs us a game. I am not confident any more that he is mature enough to handle all game situations. And as I said, lack of WRs should not be the sole reason we put up with his antics. As an example, my company touts safety above everything else. If an employee repeatedly flaunts safety rules, he will be fired no matter how indispensable his services are to our customers. -

I am late to this discussion and haven't read through all the pages. On this issue, I am with you on this issue. Our country is facing down this stupid upstart from N Korea. If this escalates, it could send thousands of our guys to war risking their lives. Secondly, besides the petty sports rivalries, Foxboro is part of the US. I don't want to even joke about anyone hurting a grain of sand in our country. Of all the things Stevie can joke about, he finds this situation funny ? To get cute about ? I think it is absurd. My take is that he just a major attention seeker. He managed to keep himself in check during the regular season but his personality willed him to do something that will get him attention. I understand that his on-field performance is very good. But what will it take for this guy to grow up and keep his trap shut ? I was getting mildly irritated with his stupid antics but was feeling hopeful after last season's tame behavior. Now he does this and jokes about a major political issue that can risk American lives. Sorry to be a prude, guys, but this is plain stupid and juvenile. We really need WRs, but at what point does the FO get sick of this side circus ? -
Falcons release Tyson Clabo

At the time of FA last year, we could have used an upgrade at RT as Hairston was manning the LT spot. So yes, there was dismay cos we could not get him but when it was evident he was using the Bills , I was comfortable in us 'losing out' I was thinking the same thing but looked through his career notes and don't see where he has played G at all. So, unless I am missing something, getting him as a G is not an option -
I wonder what Jason Peters' teammates think of him.

The guy in those 'Halloween' movies who just won't die -
While I agree with that thought, I just haven't seen Smith showcase that talent here in BUffalo. The ability is there based on his performance with the Jets, but is this a case of Gailey not utilizing him properly ? His skills not fitting Gailey's schemes ? All the talent and ability mean squat if not used. IMHO, this is the year that Smith has to play up to his paycheck. If he cannot in Marrone's system also, he will be a goner next off-season.
-
I am assuming you are referring to Brad Smith. Unless Marrone et al plan to use him at WR, I think he is one who should be on the chop block as he is not a 'value' player. His contributions are underwhelming compared to Nelson. My first reaction to the Nelson non-tender was that he was not at full strength and not expected to be either. I would like for him to be back also, if healthy. Wait, why I am I laughing ?

And there is the rub. MY issue with JP has always been his attitude. Undoubtedly he is one of the best at his position. But between his pouting due to contract, non-motivation due to the team having a losing season and his injuries, it is tough to get the full JP every game. Even if you throw out his rookie year, he has started 96 games in 8 seasons. Of the latter ones in Buffalo, he was surely not giving it his all. I would rather have a player with 90% of his talent but who brings his effort, attitude and team spirit in every game. Even in this referenced interview, he said he was good enough to play but didn't want to cos the team was in a losing season anyway. I just shake my head at an individual paid multi-million dollars a year having this point of view. -
Thigpen as Backup QB in Seattle?

Bills sign UFA DT Alan Branch to 1 year deal
Fan in Chicago replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ditto for Dansby though I am not sure where Jenkins fits in this D given that we have several CBs on the roster. Perhaps this indicates one of the CB (Aaron WIlliams ? Brooks ?) is being considered for a move to safety. In any case, I like the Alan Branch signing esp the 1 yr part. -

Bills officially sign QB Kevin Kolb

IMHO, we cannot underplay the importance that the OL was good last year due to (1) Gailey's O friendly offense (2) Levitre's presence (3) Fitz quick throws (whether or not they were accurate is not germane to low number of sacks) We lost Levitre and Rinehart. As it stand right now, I have no confidence that the protection will be equally stellar. So it remains to be seen if Kolb will be the beneficiary of better OL play. Also, we only have 2 WRs. -

Kelly, while I appreciate that we need to cover ourselves in the eventuality that a rookie wont be ready, rarely do NFL teams plan for two QBs flopping. I would assume a rookie and one semi-vet is all teams should carry with an emergency QB (Brad Smith) . Given the limitted resources, money is better spent elsewhere. Adding quantity only says that the FO itself is not very confident in their own evaluations. -

I really don't see much difference between Fitz, Kolb and Tjackson in terms of what they add to the team. Maybe accuracy differences but in the end I doubt any of them makes much difference to the W/L column. And here is my rub, which I expressed earlier when we were discussing Flynn also - I don't see why we are thrashing in all possible directions to seemingly fill our Qb hole. How does adding Kolb help the team long term ? This is against the general Nix philosophy of building for the long term. On the one hand, we keep hearing BPA for the draft but in FA we 'reach' for QBs. I am VERY curious to see the structure of the deal but if it is front-end loaded, it would be a huge mistake cos it was money due to which we let Levitre go. Money and future cap issues which have seemingly stopped us from going after our strong needs such as LB. But here we seem to have no problems throwing money at this second tier QB who may or may not be a measurable upgrade over TJackson. While I will wait to see information and curious about where the rest of the off-season takes us, at this point we seem to be flailing around in the personnel department. -
Is Kyle Williams going to undergo surgery?
Fan in Chicago replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Considering it is Achilles, we should have heard something since January when it was first reported as a possibility. Something was up with him though as he did not have the impact he did in the past. I doubt it was lack of heart as he is a lunch pail type player who puts in a lot of effort. Whatever was wrong, I hope he gets it fixed as we need him. Carrington is also doing well so our interior DL has alot of potential. Now get Dareus to shed some weight and come back from his sophomore slump. -
I don't see what provoked Whitner's tweet in the first place. What have the fans said recently that has not already been said about him since he left ? If he is bringing up Buffalo out of context, it is he who hasn't gotten over the fact that the Bills didn't want him too badly.

Apology accepted. Maybe we did not acquire many of the QBs with the intent of them starting but Holcomb, Fitz did end up starting cos we just had some poor choices on the roster to pick from. We really need to end this cycle of underwhelming and below-average QBing. (duh) Your last sentence is the crux of my problem with a trade scenario. If (big IF) Flynn is not significantly better than TJackson, why spend a draft pick on acquiring him ? Also, our FO is spending a lot of time evaluating the draft class. Spending time with Flynn and having yet another backup-grade QB on the roster will distract the coaches going forward. Now, if after looking at Geno Smith etc, our FO is not convinced they are the long term answer then perhaps it may be worth it to see if there is even a marginal improvement at QB for the short term. But, that is a lot of if's.

My argument being bogus is your opinion ofcourse. We have gone down this re-tread path a lot in the past decade and here we are with no consistency at the most important position. We all remember how happy we were (including me) when we cut Edwards and went with Fitz. Edwards had become very skittish and telegraphed plays. Fitz at least gave us an aggressive style. A couple of years later, we soured on Fitz after his frustrating inaccuracy and penchant for game killing interceptions. I think we need to go a different route and truly go for a QB with long term potential.I admit there is limited game film on Flynn but I am deferring to the talent evaluators at two teams to tell me that he is only a good enough as a backup - albeit (as you say) to two potentially great QBs. But we need to find that great QB and not settle for a second class, hand-me-down option who is likely to continue hampering the Bills success. (BTW, I am surprised at your uncharacteristically rude post)

Thanx. Good stuff. Looks like the guy wants to come and play for the Bills. Always a positive so I will give him a thumbs up if he clears our physicals. Would still offer only a 1 year contract or an incentive laden one that covers the Bills on the down side.
