EJ benched, Orton to start.
Fan in Chicago replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How then do you explain the interceptions this past Sunday when the Watt-led D was doing such a great job ? We have to agree to disagree. Fitz had a lot of moxy but his range was limited plus the aforementioned INTs would drive me insane. He is, like Orton, an ideal backup who can win a few games but unlikely to lead a team to the playoffs. -

While I agree with the overall sentiment, I seriously doubt you or the general fan base would be happy with the bolded part. That is basically Fitz's Achilles Heel and we hated him for throwing INTs. Also, if they happen at inopportune moments, the guy can have gaudy stats and yet end up on the losing end. The basic problem with EJ in his last two games was not necessarily being risk averse - it was just that the guy couldn't see or hit guys who were wide open. -
Will Tom Brady be benched?
Fan in Chicago replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because they will need to decide their QB strategy for next season and beyond. If they wait for next season to find out about JG, then it is too late to fix if there is a problem. If Brady continues to not perform, there is really no advantage in continuing with him. Rest assured, there will be a few teams in the league still willing to trade for him next season. In that scenario, if Brady continues his career with another team or hangs it up remains to be seen. -

Pats* will need to know what they have in Garrapolo before next season. I think Brady, being who he is, will get several more games this season esp if Thompkins and Dobson play. If he continues stinking it up as in the Chiefs games, I am willing to bet he gets benched and JG gets a few games to show what he does (or does not) have. Interesting turn of events for sure in the AFCE. Race to see who is not the best, but worst starting QB. -

Be that as it may, but at least one fumble and one interception were almost rookie-type mistakes. On one INT, there were three red jerseys and only one Edelman farther away from where the ball ended up. I was sitting thinking that it is one thing to speculate that Edleman ran the wrong route but there really was no route for him to run which did not intersect with at least 2 Chiefs defenders. Brady clearly looked rattled and unable to maintain/regain composure. -
Doug Whaley On The Drafting Of EJ Manuel

Why are you bringing up articles from May 2013 ? And starting a new thread for them ? -
Works for me.

EJ benched, Orton to start.

With the Defense we have, all the O needs to do is score 24-27 points consistently and win the TOP. We will win more than we lose if the O can accomplish that, which should not be a problem if Orton just manages the games. -
Not if they win 10 games first

Sullivan could have taken the opportunity to write an optimistic or even a cautiously optimistic article. Instead of giving credit to the coaching staff to make a tough decision, he proceeds to dig up all that he sees wrong and further pile on to the FO and coaching staff. "As I understand it, personnel men around the NFL are still snickering at the deal." . Really ? First he complains about EJ and when the coaches make a surprisingly early decision to pull him, he still complains using points which are rather irrelevant to the current turn of events. People here may agree with what he wrote because he is not technically wrong. But doom and gloom gets pretty boring and irritating.

Man the AFCE looks terrible right now. In fact, looking at Brady's performance against the Raiders (who they struggled to beat) and last night has me wonder if there is even one decent QB in the AFCE right now. -

What terrible clock management by the Chiefs. Could have gone for the jugular and the stupid conservative play calling may come back to bite the Chiefs. Could have gone for a TD -
My single major complaint against Marrone ( I overlooked some questionable decisions last year due to it being his rookie year) has been the penalties. Going back to last year, the O and D have this nasty habit of inopportune penalties. As for EJ, my support was more based on hope than knowledge of his college career. Perhaps it's for the best of the team but it was clear in the last two games that he was in over his head. If he continued to play as against the Dolphins, we could have won yesterday. For now, Go Bills, Go Orton

Truth be told, there were at least a couple of occasions since last draft that I was tempted to beat you over the (virtual) head for your extreme opinion re: EJ. But I am here to admit that so far you look to be right. I also remember you praising the Marrone hire (I had no opinion on it), so I am now hoping that you are right on that as well.

As long as Orton can leisurely throw to the 2+ WRs sauntering freely in the open, the answer is yes. -

Likewise, I would have expected the bye week to be the pivotal moment but this came a lot sooner than expected. EJ regressed too fast for the coaches to sit around and do nothing. At least we will now know how bad our QB situation really is. -

I raised the same question in a different thread. Hope we dont have a case of 'careful what you wish for'. We now have an advantage in the Lions game but Vikes and Jets will be interesting. -
As God for sure doesn't play dice with the universe, perhaps he/she plays marbles. Or it may be one of those I lost as a Bills fan. Or this other mission could have something to do with it. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-29357438 So many possibilities without needing to speculate on Martian jesters trying to confuse dumb humans.

When will the Bills win next ?
Fan in Chicago replied to Fan in Chicago's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That will be one way to perk up everybody's mood. That is a good point. Hopefully not bad injuries. -
Be that as it may, coaching philosophy regarding EJ is unlikely to change in the next few weeks after 1.25 seasons. For one reason or the other, I don’t think EJ is inherently inaccurate as evidenced by some good throws this season (The Grimes breakup on Watkins, Chandler sideline tip-toe etc). I think there is two problmes with him: (1) a fraction of panic that sets in between the time he decides on the target and then proceeds to throw the ball. He feels the need to throw immediately as opposed to taking that one extra fraction of a second to set and make the right throw (2) Mechanics – still needs to set his feet and power his throwing motion. Maybe this is the definition of ‘the game is too fast for him’ Anyway FWIW, not sure if these are fixed first (if at all) or does the coaches patience run out before that.
