I was in my previous house happy about the last score. My wife, not a football fan, came down and said "oh so they won it !". I said "no, there is still a few seconds left". To which she said "oh, come on"..... A few seconds later ....
What is lost in all this aftermath is a very basic question - if Marrone was known as an egomaniac, abrasive, control freak then why didn't the Bills due diligence not bring this to light ? I am leaning towards the thought that perhaps it was turned up and it was Brandon's love for him which chose to hide that information. Many of the opinions surfacing are painting a picture of him that pre-dates the Bills. The Bills FO is much as fault for ignoring these red flags and hiring him anyway.
those are several points worth considering before Buffalo even thinks seriously about Shanahan. I am hoping that Shanahan's interview is for PR purposes only to show that 'we will interview proven coaches as well as up-and-comers'.
Last year, I was ready to whip Shanahan when he continued to let an obviously hobbled RG III continue playing. Can never forgive him for that. Besides the fact that he has had little success post-Elway.
4. I am willing to give Whaley more control and then see where the roster and coaching shakes out. I think the man has an eye for talent, especially hidden. As for the OL misses, I am not totally convinced that Kujo et al are disasters because the overall OL regression may have alot to do with Marrone and Pat Morris.
9. I am absolutely no fan of Rex Ryan.
10. Agree on needing guards but may want to check what Kujo does with a new OC and OL coach
12. Absolute NO to Cutler. He is a head case and everything is always an excuse to cover up for his lack of intangibles. You know as much as anybody that a big arm by itself doesn't a QB make.
I think much before that, he will be asked about his conduct during the departure at his interviews. The NFL is a small group of businesses and you don't get to go far by being anything but cordial and courteous. Even if just in public, every coach and player needs to literally put on his game face at all times.
Time will tell, ofcourse. But since my writing of that post, I found it odd that Marrone made no public statement about his departure and chose to do a (lame) mass text to the players he led for 2 years. Maybe my opinion is turning but not fully yet.
Absolutely. Which is why I am vehemently against Bill Polian in any capacity other than an advisor or consultant. And for that role, he is unlikely to leave the studio.
In that arrangement, I can't see how Whaley and Polian can co-exist. If we lose Whaley, this will be one poor and sorry move for the franchise.
Apart from a few factions on this board, I do not detect a mass hate of Marrone. As I have stated earlier, I do not understand the hate at all. It is well and fine to question his decisions and his gameday calls, but he did nothing to my knowledge that justifies a hate of the man.
See my note above about being careful what you wish for. The Chin should have his rump firmly planted in the studios unless it is to coach the Jets. I dont have a very favorable opinion of him ever since his handling of the Kordell 'Slash' Stewart situation and his general inability to take a very talented team further than he did. But let me not derail this conversation.
Those who wanted him gone and celebrating his departure - careful what you wish for. IMHO, Marrone was not the problem with this organization. OC and OL coach both were far bigger issues and now the baby has decided to jump before the bath water was readying for being thrown out.
Schwartz should NOT be the HC.
Any team that hires Trestman, implicitly closes the door on getting Cutler. No way anyone who has coached him would want to do anything else but be on the other side of the field from him.
And GM Emery is gone from the Bears - a much required firing for Bears fans.
IMHO, Mike Smith should have been fired two seasons ago.
I have been a semi-supporter of Marrone, but given a choice, I would rather keep Whaley. His major pros include building a very good defense and finding diamonds in the rough. His failings have been inability to find a QB and OL gaffes. I do not want to go back to the Donahoe or Marv Levy days of fumbling around with the draft only to hurt the franchise long term.
Marrone on the other hand may be replaceable. I would much rather have option B which keeps both but cans the OC and OL coach.
This is what I choose to believe also.
Sure ! Better to end the season with doubt than to play EJ and risk a good performance by him. Meaningless game, reduce the odds of a controversy.
