  1. Sorry I really dont watch much TV so the totally missed that reference. Thats fair. Comparing athletes across different sports is rather pointless. Serena has dominated her sport.
  2. The basic premise of this thread is a comparison between the potential achievement by the two players. Hence, by implication, winning consecutive tournaments is deemed comparable. Are you questioning the basis of this thread ? Given the premise and the fact that Serena won four in a row and Spieth did not, made me ask that question.
  3. You cannot downplay longevity. It is tough to stay on top of the game for such a long time. Ask Nadal. I argue that Serena's consistent performance has kept any one other women's player to rise up. I agree with LBSeeBallLBGetBall on this one. 'splain, please. Again, I don't watch or understand golf. But given the results so far, would you agree Serena > Spieth ?
  4. The first time I got that call, it freaked me out but as I continued talking I realized it was a scam. This was eventually confirmed when he said 'I could settle this case right away for a sum of $4,600'. At that time, I took over control of the call and said i would make a three way call with the local police so that they can confirm what time they were planning on picking me up. He got belligerent and that made me even more emboldened to make fun of him. Eventually, he got frustrated and hung up. I checked and they use throw away phone numbers or vonage type numbers which cannot be traced to a location. BTW, it was most likely Indian and not Middle Eastern. They eventually called my home number with the same speech and I started annoying them right away. When he started sputtering due to his anger, his real accent started coming through. I quickly recognized it and started abusing him in that language at which point he was taken aback and started talking to me in an Indian language and hung up shouting obscenities. It was hilarious. You can always come to TSW and start a thread on the Bills QB situation
  5. I agree. And to me its a bit richer because of the moral dilemmas it raises and the reason for the action of several of the key characters. Also, the 10 episode format allows for crisper story telling.
  6. I used to play tennis and follow it quite a bit.
  7. True. Comparing athletes across different eras is tough. There are so many other factors that cannot be eliminated or normalized, such as competition, modern medicine etc that the argument is moot. I would however say that winning the most number of Grand Slams would be a stat to use while making a claim for GOAT status. Probably not. I would be too intimidated and I suspect she will always want to be in control. I suspect that not mentioning Federer was just an over-sight on your part
  8. Thanx. If my wife stops filling my calendar with social appointments, I may get a moment for myself and continue Daredevil...
  9. I don't follow golf so cannot really say which sport is more difficult for a Grand Slam. But I wanted to comment on the domination of the sport - the last 10+ years have been great for the men's side with the Big-4 Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray giving us some thrilling competition and high levels of tennis. Unfortunately, the women's side has been bereft of similar competition. There are a lot of above average playes but few who put up consistent resistance to Serena. I am a massive fan of Serena for her tenacity, competitiveness and skill. Few players on the women's side (after Steffi Graf) have been able to play at that astronomical level for so many years. I will lament her eventual retirement even though she is looking great even at 33. Who knows when we will see another US champion let alone one to compete for Serena's legacy. I do hope she bests Graf's 22 and Margaret Court's 24 grad slam titles so that there is no doubt about who the G.O.A.T in women's tennis is.
  10. I didnt. I give a show 3 episodes to get me interested.
  11. What i mean is shows where the story continues and there is no specific resolution after a set number of episodes. I started watching House of Cards and Daredevil, for example. After a few episodes, I realized that there is no 'good guy catch bad guy, story end' in Daredevil. I just don't have the patience and time to invest myself in stories which are forever on their journey but never arrive at any destination.
  12. I am in a minority here but I cannot start watching shows with no specific end. I think all these shows just meander along season after season. Hence, I am more on board when you have primarily single episode shows as X-Files and CSI were. Am watching "Wayward Pines" as they had said it is based on 3 books = 10 episodes total. I can attest it is a fantastic show - great story, script and direction.
  13. If that's true, Sean Payton must be getting worried about his pass rush
  14. Spiller's issues (weak vision, inability to be a every down back, weak notion of when to have patience and when to hit the hole), preceeded the Hackett-Marrone regime. Payton may very well squeeze every yard of productivity out of him but I doubt that will last for a long time. That said, I have no complaints against him as a human being and a team mate.
  15. Read what you just wrote. There are excellent players on the playoff teams. Stamkos, Johnston, Hedman are some of the best at their position. As there are several on the Blackhawks teams. First you refuse to give Coach Q credit. Then you say that the team makes plays when it matters. I say that the difference in these little things is how the lines are assembled and coached to play. In many sports, little things separate winners from losers as even in football games. Are you attributing the winning to dumb luck ? That somehow Stamkos, by severe bad luck, just forgot how to score in the finals ?
  16. Nothing is magical in sports. But motivation, adjusting to the opponent and creating advantageous matchups is all about coaching. I don't see how you can downplay him consistently out maneuvering the opponent. In this season, finishing the regular season with an injured Kane and Roszival out , caused several including me to be incredibly skeptical of their chances to win it all. Ducks took a physical strategy, Lightning are similar to the Hawks. But the Hawks beat both teams - its about talent but also a lot about coaching. And you sai 'because they made the most of their chances' as if it is run of the mill sports. Come on - you can say that with a large majority of hockey games. I don't see the logic of you downplaying Coach Q or the team as a whole.
  17. Given the way the Blackhawks limped into the playoffs had made me quite skeptical of their chances this year. I scoffed a bit at the other Blackhawk fans mentioning the 'playoff switch'. But boy was I wrong. The toughest series was the Ducks but as soon as it became evident that the pounding imposed by the Ducks would not wear out the limited Chicago defense, the glimmer of hope started becoming a beacon. Make no mistake, I think highly of Coach Q. Yes he has Kane and Toews but what he did with the shortage of D men is nothing short of awesome.
  18. At this point in time, I would say 'Playoffs' without thinking twice.
  19. Given the contract Spikes got with the Pats*, I would guess the Bills offered him close to vet minimum. Which would make sense considering his limited usefulness to us and the emergence of Preston Brown. Sometimes I have a tough time believing he is only 27. Dude is considered a good run stopper but his weaknesses in other areas (Coverage, maturity) really have limited his earning abilities.
  20. The OnStar records will be erased overnight
  21. Thats why I dont like shared data plans. Too much trouble to police the family members. Much better with individual allocation - once you are done, T-mobile throttles it back to pre-historic age speeds. If someone hits that mark, they are a lot more careful in the future. And really, with ubiquitous wifi, a regular user should not need more than 2.5 -3 gb per month from a cell provider
  22. And if CyrusK does well to earn a starting spot, the one negative from last year's draft will get erased too.
  23. A high monthly fee for one. A few options in this thread should save you a boatload of money. Unless you really use the unlimited data. I have rarely needed more than 2 GB as most times i am connected to wifi. I don't think I am that special (to TMobile anyway). If people stay on top of the specials, there is a very good chance to cut their bills by quite a bit. The only downside I have seen to Tmobile is rather poor data coverage away from the towns. But I am in those locations for such a small percent of time, that I can live with said poor coverage esp for the moolah I save.
  24. 4 cell phone lines with unlimited texting and unlimited minutes 2.5 gb data per line 1 home phone (VOIP) with unlimited minutes Unlimited calling to 70+ countries $139 with 12% corporate discount. T-Mobile
