Fantastically played by the FO. I wanted Cassel to stay on for the vet presence and was disappointed to see him cut. But ofcourse the FO is smarter than me. -
If ya got a boat, sho' you can

He will always have his ring. And no matter what we beat up on Brady* for , no one can argue against his smarts. I wouldn't be surprised if he had reviewed this entire scenario with a lawyer well before getting those balls deflated. Given the possible benefit and the low possibility of a conviction, it is not unreasonable to expect he went into it with eyes more than wide open,

Fred Says Whaley Dishonest With Him

Again, my argument is not McCoy over FredJ, it is Bryce Brown over FredJ. This move makes little sense, no matter how it is spun -
Fred Says Whaley Dishonest With Him

Thanx, bandit. Maybe I am a tad jaded but have definitely learned that not every thing is black and white in the coaching and GM area. As an example, not everything that Marrone did was wrong (Mike Williams) and not everything that Whaley has done is golden (QB, getting rid of Levitre without a replacement). Similarly, I am not sure everything Ryan is doing will turn out to be the best for the team. -
Fred Says Whaley Dishonest With Him

Fred's energy on the field can inspire the team. He has proven to be superior at pass blocking. he has consistently keyed the offense through tough runs, first downs when badly needed. Fans love his on-field and off-field attitude and character. Brown has not shown that yet. In some areas, he never will. Karlos is totally unproven. He may turn out to be Barry Sanders or Trent Richardson. -

Not really. I am one of those that are a tad skeptical. Dave McBride, a regular is also expressing unhappiness. I am against (1) Fred being cut because he is better than, at least, Bryce Brown, who has done little since getting here. Even if I ignore the fumbling issue (2) The way it was done. I trust FredJ because he has never dissed the FO in the media before. So far, the company line was that Ryan and Whaley are lock step regarding personnel decisions and the direction of the team. If Whaley , in fact, circumvented Ryan, it plays against this narrative. Don't get me wrong, Whaley has done a great job with the roster so far (Except for QB). But we have to be objective when things appear suspicious. So far I see: bringing on players with past issues, possible continued mismanaging of the QB situation (does Cassel really have to be cut ?), unceremoniously getting rid of a locker room leader, fan favorite, on-field cheerleader. There is nothing wrong with pointing out what appears less than ideal. -

So the question to be asked is if the 52nd player to make the roster is more valuable than Cassel at the QB position. And to a team without a undisputed starter, I would say the QB wins that marginal spot. -
Ronald Darby - how will he do?
Fan in Chicago replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was assuming the question being asked was around Darby's long term viability at the CB position. The things which went wrong could be attributed more to scheme and the DB corps in general. As of this moment, I would be concerned if Darby is left alone in coverage against a Luck QB'ed team. But longer term, I am not sure if that would still be a concern. -
Ronald Darby - how will he do?
Fan in Chicago replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Could he be wrong ? Sure. Am I concerned ? No because (1) It is way too early to tell (2) Ryan was leaving him on an island (3) Ryan was testing defensive schemes to test their communication skills (4) CB is a tough position to play -

Precisely my point. I am not sure Ryan meant that literally and if he did, he is speaking half truths. I realize that the Ryan's honeymoon is still on-going but I still think it is worthwhile to not forget to be objective even with a new coach. See above. Back to the topic, if Cassel is let go, it wont be because Simms is better. It will be to save money. -

Not really. He was saying that Ryan has said that the best players will be kept irrespective of the position. I think it is not black and white. It is subjective and using that statement in a vaccum can distort an argument. -

Is Bryce Brown better than Fred Jackson ? -

Money we will save for what exactly in this season ? If you were to know for sure that the money saved is the difference between signing or not signing Dareus next year, then may be I can agree. But we both don't know that yet. The only thing we know is that we have the money this year and that it is best spent to reduce any controllable uncertainty with respect to the playoffs. I think I have said all I wanted to say on this subject so will agree to disagree. -

At this point, your scenario is way too hypothetical for me to respond to. But let me try anyway. Two injuries or one flame-out+ 1 injury could happen real quick. Depending on what point in the season that happens, yes the season may be entirely salvageable. One of the injury may be temporary enough to come back for the playoff run. -

I agree with that philosophy for other positions on the team. I am advocating extra insurance as both TT and EJ don't have a large enough body of in-game experience. -

I disagree. I think we need insurance on the insurance simply to protect against any double disasters. -

Sure plans change. But given our past history with disasters at the QB position, I would at least be assured of a firm floor and hence err on the side of having one too many QBs. Simms doesn't give that vet presence and no I don't think TT or EJ are 'vet' enough. -
QB Tyrod Taylor to start Week 1
Fan in Chicago replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Frankly that is thinking small and scared. As I have said numerous times over the past couple of days, we did not get guys like Watkins, Harvin and Clay to play ball control, play-not-to-lose football. I want to see Greatest show on turf Part Deux -

IMO, EJ's style resembles TT's more so than Cassel's. Hence, I would expect that EJ would slide into the game's plan if TT were to go out. To me this makes less sense. Probably over-reacting here, but I hope this doesn't indicate EJ is being cut/traded.
