His cost aside, the point remains that Cousins has underperformed his contract. Matt Ryan elevates his team to a certain degree. From the three Vikes games i have seen and talking to a die-hard fan in my office, Cousins is pretty underwhelming. Just for reference, you were a Derek Carr fan just a couple of years back, werent you ? Purely going by memory so not going to get in a pi$$ing match with you. But I am pretty sure a couple of years back, you used to quote Derek Carr as an example of the next good QB.

Charles Clay - back in 2019?
Fan in Chicago replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he was deemed to not be a fit, he would be long gone. This regime doesnt keep players around even if there is no good replacement. The fact that he has been here for two years since McD got here is testament to that thought. He hasnt done much in any role, which is why he should be gone. Get a viable replacement for him, and make sure that the new guy can block. -

He should be gone (and that has nothing to do with him being a "whaley guy"). He has underperformed when he has been on the field. We need a more reliable and available TE as blocker/outlet for Allen. -
No reason to do that. We should be done with him.

WTF with the “feel bad for Peterman” posts?
Fan in Chicago replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
call me a wuss if you like, but I feel bad for any good person who loses his/her job. And in Peterman's case, he is unlikely to be in the career for which he trained the majority of his life. In reverse to your opinion, I dont understand the lack of empathy for a guy who did not wrong as a team mate. Why do you find it "sickening" ? -
Was a decent guy and appeared to be a hard worker. Just a terrible QB. We should avoid cheap shots at him and wish him the best for his post-NFL life and career.

Matt Barkley (asking for a friend)
Fan in Chicago replied to McBean's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yesterday was a totally fun game with I was not expecting. But it was enjoyable in large part due to Barkley. I started watching half expecting a Peterman-type performance but was pleasantly surprised. Having said that, we cannot ignore his history and have to expect his performance will adjust downward. But it can still be good enough considering what we got out of Peterman and Anderson. More broadly, though, I think McBeane accidentally stumbled and bumbled their way into an ideal situation for the QB stable for the long run. Allen as our franchise/starter, Barkley as backup and Anderson for the vet presence. Cut Nate asap -

McDermott isn't going anywhere....
Fan in Chicago replied to TwistofFate's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Care to give examples of teams which have taken 4-5 years to rebuild successfully after being bad for 15+ years? -
As is evident by the countless threads and hundreds of posts, there will never be a consensus about his skills as a GM. All I know is that he was a good man and we should wish him well in his endeavors. Truly, the only FO/coach I have truly disliked from the bottom of my heart is Rex Ryan because he was a lazy, incompetent coach who had delusions of grandeur.

McDermott isn't going anywhere....

The rationalization by some on this board is indeed baffling. One would be hard pressed to come up with another example in the NFL where a playoff team tanked on one side of the ball in the name of a "rebuild". Right now it has been a teardown. Whether it gets rebuilt, time will tell. But as of now, there is no evidence in favor of McBeane -
Sad thing is that, despite the repeated spin put by John , Alpha and others, much of this incompetence is self inflicted. Any one can excuse a single move made by the FO but in entirety, it is a mess. Whaley was let go primarily because he could not build a winning team. Seeing how they paid such low attention to the offense, I have no confidence that this FO is phililosophically any better. The flip side to the 'give them time' plea is that by the time the offense is any good, the D would have slid. I just don't buy this logic that the cupboard was bare and needed a complete oberhaul. Plenty of examples around the league where new coaches have turned around a franchise in <2 years. The disaster we are seeing as a follow up to a playoff season is an utter inexcusable debacle. I believe it could be enough if he has a true #1 and a speedster to complement him.

Matt Barkley Coming to town

As of right now, it doesnt matter who we get. We just need warm bodies to man the position. I agree with Simon's thoughts that Allen should not play at all for the rest of the year. Considering what is going on with injuries, you dont want him to continue getting beaten up. I agree on both these points. Trading AJM was a huge mistake as, despite the disparities in TC performance, they should have kept the mildly competent AJM as a safety net. Esp considering the mistake in assessing Peterman last year, thinking his offseason performance will translate to real games was a huge mistake in personnel evaluation. Secondly, I too had wondered a few weeks back why EJ is not brought in instead of Derek Anderson. This team seems to have a real hatred of EJ. As bad as he is, I am sure he is marginally better and more physically stout than the guys we have been bringing in. -
Get Foles, WR via FA, Draft lineman
Fan in Chicago replied to BigSky's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am confused. Are you interested in discussing realistic alternatives or just want to beat up on Allen ? Repeatedly posters are arguing your points and you keep gravitating back to "yea but Allen was bad at Wyoming and will never be any good". Stop with the charade and just state what you really want to say. Problem is that there is a general shortage of quality OL in the league. We may have to draft those too unless one happens to be available in FA at a position of need. I think we, at a minimum need to draft a Center as he will develop chemistry with Allen and that is good for the long term success of Allen and the O in general -
Matt Barkley Coming to town
Fan in Chicago replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I generally am not into superlatives but this is by far the worst this team has looked in the last 20 years. Utter incompetent mess. Offense is a total, unmitigated disaster and much of it is self inflicted. I would say this is comical if not for the number of QBs getting hurt. -
