The only thing I will state is hes not worth a 5yr 10 mil contract period. Which leads me to the belief we will be over payin overrated talent. Sam adams needed to be released. Andre Davis is not that good but could be a nice 4th reciever.

Marv calls Royal one of best blocking TEs in NFL
Poeticlaw replied to Reddy Freddy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From Espn scout insider rating 62-which by espn standers means hes no better than a back up. The thing that bothers me the most about this signing is that its reportedly 5 years 10 mill thats 2 mil a year for a back up player. Why are we even spending that much on a TE we just released a 1.5 mil TE. Sounds like we dont know the value of positions and are already overpaying. Royal has good overall athletic ability but only above average speed and quickness. He is a position blocking tight end and short to intermediate receiver. He has a good motor, plays hard and he works to sustain his blocks. As a blocker, he is not your prototype TE who is going to knock you off the ball rather he is going to shield you off and use his hands to get separation from the defender. He does a nice job on sealing off on his backside blocks. He takes good angles off the ball to get to the second level and he is effective on his combination blocks. Although he is a willing blocker, he is not physical and he does not play with a mean streak. He plays too high and he does not have good leverage and power. He has a narrow base, he lacks lower body strength to get movement at the point of attack and he will get knocked back at times. As a receiver, he gets off the ball quickly, he runs good routes and he finds the soft spot in the zone. He has good hands, he will adjust to the ball in the air and he will make the hard catch. He can puck the ball, he will lower his shoulders and he has decent run after the catches ability. However, Royal does not have the overall speed to stretch the secondary and he is most productive on short to intermediate routes. He is a short strider and it takes him awhile to get to top speed and he is not a home run threat. He is not crisp out of his breaks and can not create good separation from linebackers and safeties. Overall, Royal lacks big play ability and he is not an overpowering drive blocker but he is still young and he has the tools to develop. -
This is gonna be hard to pass up at #8....

According to the scouts he has bad hands. -
Question are you aking into conideration NTBE under this years cap since there is no extension in place all will count this year instead of the beginning of next Season? This would lower our cap space a great deal.

I agree with Marv: real plan for playoffs in
Poeticlaw replied to Max Fischer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree ADams and Campbell were easy choices at least from a production to salary cap assement. Milloy that confused me he was in the last year of his contract and he would be a good teacher to someone they brought into be his sucessor and his salary wasnt to bug of an issue for the leauge average. -
I got to say I was not anticipating a Lawyer Malloy cut, he like moulds is the best at his position on our Bills Team. I also thought his 3.5mil was in line with SS in the leaugue. Hopefully we will be targeting someone who makes it look like we did the right thing.

Ill tell you right now ill take Tank Williams over Coy Wire.

Vernon Davis vs. Haloti Ngata
Poeticlaw replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Since ingnorance is the word of the day lets sprinkle some more. Are we so ignorant that we over look the fact the the draft takes place MID April. When does free agency begin MARCH 2 so when teams are drafting on draft day all the Quality Free agents are gone. Then the team IS drafting for need. Whether the need is immeadate or to prepare for a future need. To illustrate this we need a DT now andif we sign one via free agency we will still need one to fill the shoes of Sam adams becuase this is the last year of his contract and all the names for DT's that keep coming up is 5 mill a year dont we have a salary cap to be concerned with? -

Poeticlaw replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As educated as your post seems to be while insulting the rest of the board is quite pretentious. First you make an excellent point in the fact that the first round pick does not have to be to either lines, it should be to the best available player available and based on need. Never would I use a first round pick for a TE I do not want to see this team spend that much in salary cap on a TE at best the TE can be drafted in the 2 round. Furthermore, there are free agents available at DT that we could probably have, however your point has gone right by me with the fact that can draft a DT in the 2 or 3 round and still be a quality starter since , oh wait that is justin Bannan and yep wait a minute Ron Edwards. Neither really a true starter. NGata is a BIG DT that can hold off 2 guys, hes the only one worth taking at the First round spot if hes not there it will be somoen else. OH and you must be ignorant to the fact that its a gamble no matter who the player is or what the round is that a player is drafted. There are no quaranties on draft day. Go for the potential that fits the roster need thats how they draft them. -
Why have so many people given up on Jp?
Poeticlaw replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Another reason a Qb competition is good going int camp is if JP comes out on top he has proven hes the best QB out of camp and earns the respect of his teammates. How JP got the Job last year was BS he knew and the players knew it. As a qb you have to earn the respect of your players and it starts with winning the competiton of QB in camp. I dont see any reason right now with the QBs on this team that JP would not easily win hands down. -
For me, Moulds jumped the shark...
Poeticlaw replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know I am in the minority but I felt that we should have let him go via frea agency I think eric moulds contract done by TD was the worse move of his tenior (sp). Eric moulds was not and is not worth more than 5 mil a year. We are getting younger and if JP stands any chance at all to be the starter Eric moulds has to be gone!!!!!! -
Realistically who should be our #1 target in FA?
Poeticlaw replied to Poeticlaw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No i didnt forget him hes giving indications he wants to go to the Browns if he fits into their offensive system. -
Considering our needs and the Free Agent market and the competition for those players and the salary cap situation who should be our #1 traget heading into the free agency when it begins? I believe we should be hard press to do whatever it takes within our constraints to get Lecharles Bentley-C/OG we need a proven player to play the position and its the position he wants to play. I know the rest of us would like a LT star but it doesnt appear we will able to obtain the ones available. I would also like to get these players-keep in mind not just as a starter but for overall depth that makes the team better- These are all good second tier players that could also be starters RT-Kenyatta Walker LT-Kevin Shaffer-25 DT-Maak Kimoeatu-27 LBJulian Peterson-27 or LB AKin Ayodele-26 DT-Ian Scott-24 SS-Tank Williams-24 WR-Antonio Bryant-27 or WR David Givens-26 TE/ST-Mike Seidman-25 RB/ST-Chestor taylor-26 OG-Derrick Dockery-25

TO say the Malloy doesnt know the cover 2 system is ignorant. The patriots use the cover two sytem a majority of the time. Nobody thinks we will lose anything with the realease of Malloy, I think Malloy is a great presence and based on our depth you could see the weakness when he was off the field. Malloys cap number is good 3.5 mil is not a bad number to be paying a ss in this leaugue, I dont see him getting cut its not the same situation as in NE when the released a guy about count 8 mil to the cap. Sam Adams now hes about as worthless as his salary and for only a hit of $375,000 this is the cut I would make. There are a couple of good DL in the FA and if we pick up NGata in the draft the dl will be fortified. Especailly with the savings of 3.5 mil for cutting his lazy 33.3% playing carcass.

I think you might be missing something here: Moulds cap figure for the upcoming season is $10,855,666-a 2.5 mil cap figure=8,355,666 but an 11 mil cap figure next year. so it willl cost us $13 mill to keep him this year and release him next year with only a savings of 2.5 mil. Where as if we cut him now we save 5 mil this year and 5 mill next year which is 7.5 mil then And his replace ment will be atleast 1 mil this year for a toal savings of 4 mill if released this year which is still enough to bring in 2 more quality free agents this year with room next year. Keep in mind the creative signing can have a low first year figure but balloons next year. We cant have ballooning salaries next year if we dont cut him this year.
-
The thing I am saying about Moulds needing to be released is being overlooked. Moulds counts over $10 mil this year and restructuring will only cost most next year. From a realistic point of view next year wont be a cap fre year the NFL will get the extension done. Which means we cant sign valuable free agents this year or in the next. I respect the fact that every one likes him and hes the best receiver on THIS Bills team. However, he is not worth the contract he has. The QB isnt situated, nothing is set in stone. But we need to get younger and better. I would consider Antonia Bryant a viable replacement just to name one. This isnt about one player itas about overall improvement to the entire team. Realistically we are an offensive line away. How much do you think they make. We pay all of our under 1.5 mil except MW. Bently alone is goint to cost a Min contract of 5 mil a year, so my question to the nay sayers is this: If you have a chance to save 10 mil this year and 10 mil next year (which s 20 mill over 2years for the math impaired) to repair the ENTIRE LINE (5 players rember Peters isnt paid to be a OL yet and someone can still come in and scoop him up if hes not signed to the right contract before then, look at Crowell as an example) paying an average of 4 mil or less per player that will open holes for your running backs and release preesure of the passing game and give whom ever the QB is time to throw the ball would you still want to keep Moulds?
-
Cutting Moulds is only a bad idea to the people who think that we cannot find another receiver. How do the other 30 teams survive? Moulds will be replace its inevidible whether its this year or next hes a short timer. Mind as well save his money now and build the depth of the team. The point Im trying to make with Moulds is this: I have very low expectations for this upcoming year. Most systems take up to 3 years to implement. Whether time is of essence or not the fact is that our team is getting old in key positions. My perception this past season is that Moulds really hurt JP losmans chances of succeding last year, I think he missed Bledsoe to be honest. Moulds was the biggest advocate to get Holcomb in there becasuse holconmp will throw him the ball. But I have seen him decline the last two years and really dont think hes worth 10 mil a year I barely thought he was worth the 7 TD signed him to. Restructing is only going to make it that much of a bigger hit next year. cut him now and bring in the free agent depth. People are talking about catches hes the number one reciever on the depth chart and gets his number called more times than any other reciever out there. Give other WR's a chance just not aiken or reed they both are not on my retain list either. All we need is a viable option which we could always get in free agency.

2006 Player Pos. Counts agains cap cap savings Sam Adams DT $3,875,000 $2,125,000 DEAD Cap $375,000 Mark Campbell TE $1,537,500 $1,300,000 DEAD Cap $237,500 Mike Williams OT $10,813,764 $4,907,098 DEAD Cap $4,906,666 Eric Moulds WR $10,855,666 $5,522,333 $5,333,333 Total $ $27,081,930 $13,854,431 Total DEAD Cap $10,852,499 keeping thes players cost us $27,080,930 this year and restructing will only further the pain next year. Releasing all these players this year save $13,845,431 to bring in QUALITY FA's and afford us another $10,852,499 next year. Thus we could improve quite rapidly by doing this this year no matter how much we like Moulds its about the overall team Not one player. And just to make a point....The NE Patriots who have won 3 superbowls in the last 5 years have done it with out a marquee reciever. David patten, Troy brown, David Givens no other team in the leaugue would make these players 1 or 2 on the depth chart most likely 3 or 4th. They have one because of the over all depth of the rosters with quaility free agents. I think its time for the overall team to improve not only for this year but for the foreseeble future and we cant do that paying out that much money to these players.

http://www.billsdaily.com/news/archives/2005/feb2.shtml actually, no Bledsoe was still on the team and was orginally expected to compete for the starting role. Which we all know that Bledsoe would have won hands down anyway.

Watching the video of Marv's interview on the news he stated how to build a team. Start with the Defensive line and he got all giddy when Ngata's name was mentioned to him when asked if he heard of him. He will franchise Nate if hes not signed to a deal beacuase corners are important and Jauron wants atleast 3 good ones and corners are hard to get in this game and Marv feels Nate could be taught a few things that would make him better. They stated they would "like" to keep Moulds. They said they "want" to keep Nate. In my opinion Moulds fate will be decided on restructuring and how much they need to bring in quality FA and their draft picks. My guess Moulds will be cut-Why would Moulds want to restructure for a team that has a revolving door at QB. The last time he restructure Bledsoe was the QB he did it to help Bledsoe stay with the team. Then you build he offensive line either through the draft or FA and no comments on the probability of MIke Williams staying with the team even after the reporter stated he is most likely gone there was no rebuttle from Marv. I must say listening to Marv is inspirational, then the Buzz kill comes out of listening to Jauron. Jauron is going to be harder to listen to the Greg Williams he just to dull which leads me to a question-If i as a fan find him uninspiring how is a team going to find him INSPIRING?

I dont think Joe Montana is out line with his request. All the performers get paid for an appearance at the superbowl. Probably all the MVPs got paid to do it as well. What they were paid is unknown. But for Joe montana to ask For a $100k sounds reasonable for $25k for his 3 mvps and $25K to do the ring toss. Also the NFL didnt make these guys we the fans made these guys and the NFL what they are paid today because we pay to see them play. I think Joe Montana or anyother player who is be asked by the NFL to make an appearance should get paid for their services. I know I would want to be paid for ppublic apperances especially since they are making mega millions on the show.

OK- Realistically who could the Bills Bring IN
Poeticlaw replied to Poeticlaw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We would not have to trade for Kitna- Kitnas a free agent. If we would have to trade for anyone of the names mentioned it would be BRad Johnson because he isnt a free Agent. Everyone seems to be missing the point of this thread. Without haveing to trade for a QB and without drafting a QB who do we think Marv is going to bring in to Compete for the starting JOB. Cap is not an Issue JP is only 1.5 million if hes NOT hitting his incentives. Holcomb is ONLY $875,000 We can spend under 3 million for a starting QB but I never said he would be starting nor did i state he would be on th eopening day roster. Who do we think will be the Veteran that Marv is going to bring in to compete for the starting Job. Yes he has 2 qbs in europe Im telling you he is going to bting in someone to compete. As well as build up the rest of the team. BRees comes with too high of a price tag and a huge question mark on his shoulder and a draft pick because they wil probably franchise him again. I think they will bring in Kitna or Huard. However if we could get Brad Johnson I think it would be a lock! -
Ok there are two ways we can go with this. 1. If we are looking to improve the Overall team and not jsut for this year but years to come. Cutting Moulds saves 5 mil this year and an additional 5 mil next year. Renegoting his contract is only going to push up the cap hit when he is eventaully cut. Not to mention do you really think moulds is woth 10 mil a year. At best i would give him 3mil. I will not argue the point that moulds is the BEST reciever on our BILLS team. I just don think hes worth that much and I would like the overall team to improve. David patten and rande el are 2 off the top of my head available for free agency. 2. If we are going to stick with JP Then moulds definately needs to be released because he is the biggest factor of veterans not wanting him on offense. JP has built a nice repor with Lee evans and the sport casters are stating simualrities between Evans and Steve Smith. I believe they will be fine with a rebuilt line another pass catching TE adn a true threat at the back up running back position. Freeing moulds builds an offense with the money saved.

i completly agree with you but noone in the organization has answered the QB questions that have been asked. Marv danece around it and Jauron Danced around it. WHich my interpretaion as much as the sportwriting world they might be more willing to bring in a vet to compete to really see if we could do better than what we have.
