Interesting comment from a Ravens fan
Sound_n_Fury replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Four false starts and one holding penalty in 12 games doesn't sound too bad to me...pretty average for a OG. The four sacks in '04 are one every three games, which again, sounds about average. This just reinforces the thought that the folks slagging BA on the Ravens boards don't have much credibility. -
V-Coach - Bennie Anderson signed

Cripes, between this lame site and that ticky-tack Raven's chat board, I'm really glad we have Twobillsdrive/TSW more than ever. The quality of the posts on that Ravens board was laughable so I'm not too impressed that these are comments from "knowledgeable" fans (more like junior high kids ). -
Welcome to Lake Woebegon, where the childeren are all above average!

Mel Kiper discounts Matt Jones
Sound_n_Fury replied to EZC-Boston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey, Mel's just good entertainment...don't take him seriously. Everything he says is based on what other scouts and personnel guys tell him. If Mel's saying Jones is overrated, it just means his "contacts" are trying to talk him down, most likely so they can snag him in round 2. -
You must have missed the last few years, where "news" and "reality TV" have replaced entertainment programing in America. It's a hell of a lot cheaper to make stories out of "real" people's pain/joy/embarasment than it is to pay actors, directors, scriptwriters to produce anything. The Teri Schivo story was great filler between ads for Zantrex and iPod's over the last month. Next week, it'll be something else. The media don't care what the story is...they've got time slots to fill. Best to just ignore TV and national media outlets and not support what passes for "journalism" today.

Jets Stadium....process rigged?
Sound_n_Fury replied to Hammered a Lot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't hold my breath on a sizeable number of 18-54 year old American males tuning into more "affordable" sports on Sunday afternoons. XFL, anyone? The day NFL games go to "pay per view" will be the day the whole thing implodes. Charging big bucks for PSL's in the wealthest city in America may be distasteful to most of us in "blue collar" Buffalo, but it's actually amazing the Jets held out as long as did in NOT doing this. -

Sound_n_Fury replied to Hammered a Lot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Entertainment, huh? Been to a Broadway show lately? How about a U2 concert with premium seats going for +150 a pop. Supply and demand dictate price, and obviously there's ample demand even with the price increases we're starting to see. BTW, the NFL's mass appeal was built on television, not in-stadium attendance. The total number of NFL seats available on any given Sunday (about 1 million, league-wide) is a drop in the bucket versus the 25 million households that tune in each week. -

What's new about that? I must have missed something about capitalism being repealed in the last few days. -

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor...d=2021162&num=3 Having been seemingly dormant for weeks, discussions aimed at a swap of Buffalo Bills tailback Travis Henry and Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle L.J. Shelton were revived at the NFL owners meetings this week, and there is a decent shot the proposed trade will be consummated around draft time. The final hurdle: In addition to getting Shelton, who would replace Jonas Jennings as the starting left tackle, Bills general manager Tom Donahoe also wants to switch spots in the second round. That would mean Buffalo would move to the No. 44 slot overall and Arizona would slide back to the No. 55 spot. Cardinals coach Dennis Green has balked at that component of the trade but apparently still wants Henry to fill the hole he's got at tailback, so that he could then use his first-round choice in the draft (the No. 8 position) to grab a much-needed cornerback. The speculation had been that Green was eyeing a running back with his first-round choice. Apparently, he feels he can get a young runner, such as J.J. Arrington of the University of California, in the second round. The Bills, who don't have a first-round selection, having dealt it to Dallas last year in the trade that enabled them to choose quarterback J.P. Losman, want to improve their lot as much as possible in the second round. Buffalo needs Shelton, or the Bills will probably have to move starting center Trey Teague to left tackle, a position he has not played since he left Denver following the 2001 season. With Losman as a first-year starter, the Bills want to maintain as much stability as they can on the offensive line.

Sound like a plan. Please send the New York State Parks Department a couple billion dollars and they'll get right to work on it. -

This is some funny stuff. Could you imagine something like this happening today: http://www.niagarafrontier.com/work.html#Michigan Schooner "Michigan" It wasn't until some years after the bitter fighting along the shores of the Niagara River during the War of 1812, that Niagara started to come into its own as a tourist attraction. By the 1820's there were three hotels catering to the visitors of Niagara Falls. These hotel owners were responsible for the first stunt over the Falls in order to attract attention of members of the public and to boost the tourist trade. The Canadian tourism was growing while factories lined the banks of the American shore. In 1827, William Forsyth of the Pavilion Hotel with the help of John Brown of the Ontario House and General Parkhurst Whitney of the Eagle Hotel in Niagara Falls, New York staged the very first tourist stunt at Niagara Falls. Forsyth bought an old condemned lake schooner named "Michigan" The "Michigan" was 16 feet from keel to the deck. The water depth at the crest of the Horseshoe Falls was nearly twenty feet deep back then (presently 3 - 5 feet). The hotel owners then advertised in advance that they would send the schooner over the Horseshoe Falls on September 8th 1827. A dozen or so wild animals were placed on board and the event took place as advertised before an estimated crowd of 15,000 people. The animals placed on board the doomed ship included a buffalo, two small bears, two raccoons, a dog and a goose. To further add to the stunt the ship was decorated to look like a pirate ship with dummies of humans tied to the deck. With a crowd estimated at 15,000, the ship was released into the currents of the upper Niagara River on September 8th 1827. As the Michigan reached the rapids, it's hull was torn open and the schooner began filling with water. The two bears running loose on deck jumped free of the schooner into the rapids. They were were able to swim to Goat Island. The other animals were caged or tied to the ship died when the schooner went over the Horseshoe Falls. At the base of the Falls, only the goose had survived the plunge and was rescued. -
Only One Starter Drafted After 2nd Round

Well, I suppose TD could have passed on signing these FAs and played some of our lower round draft choices instead. It would have made him look like a drafting genius! -

Atlanta has a UFA C in Robert Garza
Sound_n_Fury replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Garza's a "run and shoot" type guy. Not a good fit for a "smashmouth" running team. -
That reminds me of a fraternity brother I had who was a gung-ho criminal justice major. He'd just landed his dream job, becoming a NYS Trooper, and was going through initial cadet training. The first or second time on the firing range, the guy blows a hole in his foot with his handgun! Never heard what happened to him after that....he never came back for any frat fuctions, most likely out of embarrassment!

FA OL we havent mentioned in a while
Sound_n_Fury replied to Navy Chief Navy Pride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Miami Herald is reporting that the Dolphins are expected to sign Lions OT Stockar McDougle (per numbnuts Florio) http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm -
Yep, that 'ol dirty dog, TD! Still, what player that's ever been cut doesn't say the same thing while emotions are running high? No one likes to get fired.
-
I guess I'd have to say...So What! TD's not a player's "buddy" like John Butler was, or like goofy owners Daniel Snyder, Jerry Jones, Jeff Laurie et al continue to be. He makes hard (some would say "cold") decisions based on dollars and cents....just like most players when they jump ship for a better FA offer somewhere else.

Most likely during the post-draft minicamp...

MW restructuring (and CW cut)?
Sound_n_Fury replied to Sound_n_Fury's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bupkis. CW will find work, at a reduced salary. But he's certainly worthy of playing ST on half the teams in the league. -
Apparent good news on getting Big Mike's cap number down: http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20050...?tbd1004647.asp "The Bills still have $2 million or more in potential savings they probably will create from restructuring the contract of tackle Mike Williams. That would bring them to at least $4 million under. " Look's like Coy Wire may be next on the unemployment line, as many have speculated on TSW: "It appears the Bills also might eventually release Coy Wire, another of their backup safeties. An escalator in his contract that went into effect this year brings his base salary from $455,000 to $1.43 million, according to union records. His release would save $975,000. "

Economic Impact of the Bills on Erie County?
Sound_n_Fury replied to CJPearl2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Give me a guess as to the total number of fans for each home game that fall into the same travel/spending category as yourself. Would you say 5,000? Maybe even 10,000? Using your $600 per person spending level for these folks, that equates to just $24 million to $48 million per season in "new" revenue to the area. Again, in the grand scheme of things, that's just a drop in the bucket from an economic impact perspective. For comparison sake, here's the annual economic impact of some other WNY organizations: University of Buffalo--$1.4 billion annually Delphi Automotive Lockport plant--$700 million Chevy Tonawanda engine plant--$500 million Buffalo Sabres--$60+ million http://www.osc.state.ny.us/press/releases/...22503report.htm
