Excellent choice with Justin
Sound_n_Fury replied to Y-TOWN-B.B.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, what a great attitude. This is excellent value at this point in the draft. I'm feeling much better about the interior OL right now. Tough to wait for these kind of picks, but it's making this draft look a lot better, IMO. -

Ostrosky was a blob. This guy sounds like a born football player. Smart and crafty...I like the combination. -

Nice. Sounds like a good, blue collar OG who can play for a long time in the right system: Strengths: Is an experienced lineman with very good toughness, intelligence and durability. Has excellent size and upper body strength. Has long arms and does a very good job of sustaining once he has locked on. Hand placement is excellent. He has a powerful punch and can really jar DL with initial contact. Has the size and strength to smother defenders at the POA. Is a very good leader and crafty player. Will always be prepared. Weaknesses: Is limited athletically. Plays too high at times and needs to learn to bend his knees with more consistency. Has decent initial quickness but is not mobile. Struggles to mirror and slide in pass pro. Gets into a lot of trouble against elite speed rushers off the edge. Will get caught on his heals and will have lots of trouble recovering versus double moves. The more space he's in as a run blocker the less effective he becomes. Has trouble reaching the second level on time and does a below average job of hitting moving targets. Overall: Geisinger redshirted in 2000 and started the first nine games at left tackle for the Commodores in 2001 before he suffered a season-ending broken right ankle. He was a fulltime starter at left tackle his last three seasons (2002-'04) at Vandy and erased any doubts regarding durability. Geisinger is a good leader, intelligent player and aggressive blocker. He has very good size and excellent upper body strength, but Geisinger is limited athletically and is basically an overachiever that has maximized his physical tools. If Geisinger can make the transition inside and lands on a team that emphasizes the power running game, he has a chance to make it as a backup in the NFL. Geisinger should get some mid-to-late round attention because of his size, intelligence and strength, but he's too limited in terms of athletic ability to waste a pick on him in the first four rounds. -
The guy who is definitely gone after Parrish pick

I think we need that big, physical complement to LE's speed, whether it's EM this year or someone else next year. If EM goes down, it swings the D allignment toward physically beating Evan's up at the line. Lose-Lose, in other words. Calico for TH sounds better and better... -
Hawthorne should be our pick

He probably can't wrestle, as well! -

I'm with you on Aiken...he's just another guy. But I guess it surprises me how few options we have if EM or LE miss any apreciable time. -

I can't see FF playing on the outside. Too small, he'll get jammed at the line. You know, looking at the roster, the lack of a big outside backup for EM or LE really jumps out: http://buffalobills.com/team/roster.jsp?order_by=pos -

EM and LE are set, with SA as the primary backup on the outside? I find that a little worrisome as well. But we've got a lot of depth at the slot position...Reed, Parrish and FF. Seems unbalanced to me. Could the TH for Calico rumor have some legs? -

Possibly. But how many undersized WR's can the team carry? If FF and Parrish can't play anywhere but the slot, Reed still could make the team due to his (marginal) ability to play outside. -
Strengths: He is quick, fast, experienced and confident in his cover skills. He has great instincts, is tough, and has developed into a playmaker when the ball is in the air. Is a savvy cornerback with good recognition skills and awareness. Has solid technique, plays with good balance and body control, shows good burst out of his pedal, and has very good closing burst when breaking on the ball in front of him. He has fluid hips and the speed to turn and run with faster receivers. He does a very good job of finding the ball in the air and he gives up few big plays. He knows how to protect himself in coverage. Is tough and aggressive. Is more effective in run support than his size indicates. Fills hard and finds ways to bring down the ball carrier. Is a feisty, tough and competitive little player. Weaknesses: Lack of size will always be his biggest limitation. He struggles to matchup against bigger receivers. He will be a liability on the perimeter in the NFL. Also will be a liability against bigger slot receivers and on fade routes. He does not have great leaping ability and will lose too many jump balls. Is tough in run support but is vastly undersized. Will get pushed around too often by blockers and is bound to get run over a lot more by bigger blockers and ball carries in the NFL. Overall: King took over as a fulltime starting cornerback as a true freshman in 2001 and remained a fulltime starter since throughout his four-year career at Wake Forest. He started all 12 games as a junior in 2003 (59 total tackles, three INT's and 15 PBU) and 10-of-11 games as a senior in 2004 (40 tackles, two sacks, one INT and 11 PBU). King does not have good size and, at best, will be limited to a sub-package role as a slot cover corner in the NFL. However, he has the quickness, ball skills and just enough speed to develop into a dime DC in the NFL, which is why he's worth taking a chance on in the late rounds of the 2005 draft.

Seems like a good nickel package guy...not much in run support though. http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/king_eric

I don't see Everett as a starter this year. He only had one year as a starter at UM and has a lot to learn yet. Campbell's not flashy, but I think (assuming he's healthy) he'll work very well with JP, who should be able to move around in the pocket better than DB and check down to his TE when needed.
-
Excuse me, but what do you think the whole point of the extensive draft coverage/ excitement is? To sit passively by, taking every move from OBD as gospel? No way. It's to play GM for two days and express our opinions, whether you agree with them or not.

Couple facts about Presoton from various articles
Sound_n_Fury replied to N.Y. Orangeman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No way...he has limited mobility and athletic ability. Interior guy all the way. -
There goes Jason Brown to Baltimore....Agh.
-
Preston summary from PFW: "Should get drafted late and could develop into a fine backup at the next level." I know, I know...McNally's judgement has to be trusted. But I just don't see this kid as being better than Justin Brown.
-
Bullocks...this kid is nowhere near as good as Brown or Wilkerson, IMO.
-
There goes Elton Brown to the Cards....
-
Well, two of my five "wish list" 4th round targets are gone (Willis, Buenning). I'd like to see TD give up a 6th to move up and get some of the top OL guys left.
-
yawn...

I still can't reconcile yesterday's picks with the "smash mouth" style we've heard so much about last year. Was all that "run, run, run" talk just a prop for Bledsoe? Is MM really going to open up the offense, now that we have a mobile JP at the helm? In other words, give JP a scheme he felt comfortable in, like when he was at Tulane? This may be interesting. I just hope we don't take the similarity too far... since JP played behind a crappy O-line his whole career and was running for his life most of the time! Let's see some OL reinforcements today!

So who is left in this draft?
Sound_n_Fury replied to Navy Chief Navy Pride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFLDr.../Remainders.htm Of this list, I'd be happy with: Jason Brown--C Ray Willis--OT Anttaj Hawthorne--DL Dan Buenning--OG Ronald Fields--DL (see a trend! ) -
Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger! http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft05/colu...john&id=2044649 Bills: The Bills held on to Travis Henry too long in trade talks and didn't get value. They hoped to get Arizona, Tampa Bay or Philadelphia to give them at least a third-round choice. But all three teams got their backs in the draft. The Bucs took Cadillac Williams. The Cardinals opted to take J.J. Arrington in the second round rather than offering a third-round choice to the Bills. The Eagles took Ryan Moats. The Bills selected good players -- wide receiver Roscoe Parrish and tight end Kevin Everett. But they still didn't get help for their offensive line.

Parrish = Moulds Cap Cut After 2005
Sound_n_Fury replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is my thought as well. Parrish might turn out to be everything he's claimed to be, but as a slot receiver (and only a slot receiver), how many times a game is he going to be on the field? And if this is EM's last year, it means we still have to find his replacement through next year's draft or FA. -
Parrish will be reunited with McGahee. The two played at Miami together in 2002. Parrish spent part of this offseason working out with McGahee, and McGahee was among the first to call to congratulate Parrish after he was selected. ''He was very excited for me,'' Parrish said. ''Earlier this week, I told him I talked to the receiver coach and he said, `Don't be surprised they pick you.' And then when I talked to him, he said, `I told you.''' http://www.boston.com/dailynews/113/sports...h_with_s:.shtml
