  1. 4-2 Moose. Ooh, Ah...Amerks on the golf course...
  2. http://www.pointstreak.com/framed/prostats...l?gameid=205336 Not looking good...Moose up 3-2.
  3. Not flamed, but perilously close to meeting "Mr Ignore Button"
  4. Despite all the injuries, my biggest disapointment is how small Miller's come up in the series so far. This is a guy that many touted as the Sabres' starter in 2006, based on the hot streak the Amerks put together earlier this year. He's not shown me enough mental toughness in this series and he gave up some questionable goals in Round 1 as well. Do you think they overworked him down the stretch when they were trying to get that "Win" record for him? Tonight, win or lose, he's got to have a "stand on your head" game if he's going to make himself a viable replacement to Biron next year.
  5. I love Wright's USC webpage bio: "2005: The dominating Wright likely could at defensive tackle as a junior in 2005. He'll sit out 2005 spring drills to concentrate on his academics." Could what??? Maybe the webmaster should think about a few remedial english classes as well!
  6. Yep, but they don't call it the Mountain West conference for nothing! I thought this fact was interesting: "Only Owen Pochman (333, 1997-2000) scored more points in a career at Brigham Young. Payne's 54 field goals rank second on the school's career-record list behind Pochman's 66." We seem to have a thing for BYU kickers lately...must be all the experience they get in a wide-open, offense-oriented conference.
  7. I'm curious to see if he can be as effective kicking at lower alttitudes...I'm always leary of the stats put up by guys playing in that thin mountain air.
  8. People B word about the Bills' looking to generate revenue and at the same time moan about how are they going to stay competitive with the big market teams: http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showtopic=24026 If you don't want to shell out for a jersey (not you personally, I'm being rhetorical ), then don't. But I don't begrudge the team from trying to get a few more $$$ from selling something fans might want to buy, especially if it helps them compete with the Cowboys, 'Skins' etc.
  9. I'm not advocating a similar policy for every instance. I'm saying management descretion should be applied in individual cases where the "greater good" will be served. A slacker does not get the same benefit a better student does. Maybe the school board should re-read Catch-22 to refresh their perspective: http://school.discovery.com/lessonplans/programs/catch22/
  10. While I agree, the student and her family did this with eyes wide open, I've got to ask: What's the point of a high school education...is it to get a piece of paper after four years, or is it to prepare young people for college/life/work? It seems the education bureacracy is increasingly placing a higher value on its "rules" than the "outcomes" it's supposed to achieve. A little flexibility could have been applied in this situation, IMO.
  11. With nothing else going on to move it off the front page(s), crime stories get more play. I don't sense any great change in the overall crime rate, however. If anything it seems less prevelant than back in the days when Irv Weinstein used to shout: "pistol packing punks...news at 11!" on a nightly basis
  12. I'm surprised they wouldn't use them to help move tickets for one of the slower-selling games, like KC or Carolina. They must really want to give JP every possible advantage to get that first win under his belt.
  13. The schools have their priorities straight here in Buffalo, too ! http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20050512/1070292.asp James A. Williams on Wednesday night was named Buffalo school superintendent under a three-year contract that includes a salary of $205,000 the first year and also includes: $15,000 yearly annuity payments; 26 vacation days in addition to school holidays; 40 days of sick leave the first year and an additional 14 days in each of the following years; five days of personal leave; medical and life insurance; Reimbursement for up to $5,000 in professional membership fees as well as "reasonable expenses" for conferences and meetings; Salary will be reconsidered by the board each year, and can increase but not be cut. Williams may take part in "consultive work, speaking engagements, writing, lecturing or other professional duties and obligations" - with or without pay - with prior board approval. In other action, the board also voted 8-1 to save $27 million over the next two years - and seek to minimize staffing cuts - by naming Blue Cross Blue Shield as its single health insurance carrier. The Buffalo Teachers Federation and the union representing principals both said that move violates their contracts and state law, and that they will challenge it in court.
  14. It goes without saying, they really miss Vanek. But I'm disappointed the other (supposedly) NHL-caliber forwards aren't stepping it up more. Sigh. Box Score: http://www.pointstreak.com/framed/prostats...l?gameid=205335
  15. Amerks lose 2-1, down three games to one.... Get those tee times ready
  16. Salt Lake City Tribune article: http://www.sltrib.com/sports/ci_2726052 War Room analysis Payne is a right-footed soccer-style kicker who also can handle punting duties. He has a big leg as a punter. He has good size. He converted 15-of-22 field-goal attempts as a senior, with his long coming from 53 yards. His leg strength is adequate but not elite. He shows good mechanics and accuracy as a kicker, and he consistently sent kicks down to the goal-line at the East-West Shrine Game. He has solid directional skills and hang-time as a punter. He has a better shot at making a pro roster as a punter. Pro Football Weekly analysis Positives: Great size with a strong leg. Fine directional punter. Good hang time. Jack of all trades. Handles kickoff and field goal duties and was very accurate from inside 55 yards. Very durable. Negatives: Inconsistent and has been helped by kicking at high altitude in mountain air. Summary: Strong legged punter who can also handle kickoffs and long distance field goals and could be drafted late.
  17. Cool. And Trent Reznor's going to be 30 next week. A decade from now he'll be selling real estate to those same Stones' fans!
  18. Yep, that's my choice too. They boil the dogs rather than grill them. The white hots are incredible. I'm not sure if they're going to open up this year. The property appears to be for sale: http://www.huntcommercial.com/Property_Lis...st_forlease.htm Anybody from the Town of Niagara know if they're still around?
  19. Traylor will decide soon BY JASON COLE jcole@herald.com Miami Herald May 11, 2005 The Dolphins have held talks with the agent for former New England defensive tackle Keith Traylor, and he is expected to make a decision within a week about where he will sign. ''We've had some talks with two or three teams, including the Dolphins, I think that's a fair way to put it,'' said agent Jordan Woy, who represents Traylor. Woy said the Dolphins discussed a significant role for Traylor, including the chance to compete for a starting job. The Dolphins are concerned about the health of returning defensive tackles Larry Chester and Tim Bowens. Chester is recovering from a knee injury and is expected to be held out of practices during training camp. Bowens missed all but one game last season with a back injury, and his rehabilitation has been inconsistent this offseason. In fact, Bowens has walked out of several rehab sessions with the team trainers out of frustration. Traylor, 34 and heading into his 14th season, is an experienced run-stopper in either the 3-4 or 4-3 defenses Dolphins coach Nick Saban hope to play. Traylor played in 16 games with 10 starts for New England last season, helping the Patriots to their third title in four years.
  20. Doesn't look like it: http://www.democratandchronicle.com/apps/p...RTS02/505110337 Vanek hurting Amerks rookie left winger Thomas Vanek, the team's most dangerous offensive threat, may not play tonight in Game 4 against the Manitoba Moose. Vanek missed practice on Tuesday because of an apparent head injury and possible concussion. He's listed as day-to-day. He was sent into the air and landed on his head after an open-ice check by defenseman Kevin Bieksa about 15 minutes into the second period of Game 3 on Monday. Referee Steve Kozari assessed no penalty, but Amerks coach Randy Cunneyworth said the hit was low and bordered on dirty. If Vanek can't play tonight, newcomer Clarke MacArthur will take his place on a line with Derek Roy and Norm Milley.
  21. According to the salary calculator at Homefair.com a renter with a $60K salary in McLean is equivalent to $37K in Amherst, NY: http://www.homefair.com/homefair/servlet/A...14&ownrent=rent
  22. The only big knock on him is his slow 40 time (4.81). However, his 10-yard dash (1.66) and 20-yard shuttle (4.12) times were among the best of the ILBs in the draft, indicating that he has very good short-area quickness. My guess on why he went undrafted is the combination of slow 40 time and the 1-AA competition. After seeing the 40 time, most teams probably red-flagged him and didn't do much film work to see how productive he was. Another big thing Liam has going for him is he's cheap. His salary is only $230,000 versus $380,000 for Mario Haggan the only true ILB backing up Fletcher. That $150,000 difference may come in handy in signing another FA (like Shelton) after the June 1 cuts.
  23. He's got the intangibles. If he can put it all together, he'll make a nice ST kamikazi: SMART: scored 28 on the Wonderlic, 4th highest among ILBs at the combine STRONG: "Ezekiel showed impressive strength at the Combine, leading inside linebacker prospects in reps in the lifting session." PRODUCTIVE: He played in the East-West Shrine Game in San Francisco in January, where he had six tackles against mostly Division I-A players (tops among LBs and third overall in the game). WACKY: has "pain" tattooed on his arm.
  24. "He eats one kg of rice powder. He has been feeding on this for quite some time and his health is absolutely fine," Bibi said. "Though surprised by his uncanny tendency to pile on weight, his feeble-bodied mother says her son is absolutely healthy." http://www.keralanext.com/news/readnext,1.asp?id=197839&pg=2 With all due respect...nah, I won't go there!
