Worse win in Buffalo Bills history
Sound_n_Fury replied to bluv's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Huh. As far as I can tell, only one player of the roster is rooting against KH. To a man, every interview I've heard with players talking about Holcomb is that he gives them a chance to win. I've not heard that said about JP yet...only that he's talented, learning, blah blah blah. The bottom line is that players want to win now, especially the vets like EM. They don't want to have their season sacrificed so a "QB of the future" can get potty trained on playing in the NFL. -

I'd be happy if Leonhard had a great career as a special teamer. He reminds me of Tasker...smart, undersized, smart, instinctive, smart.... I'd love to see him on punt returns (which he excelled at in college), but I suppose Roscoe has that job locked up given his draft position.

This has been discussed in another thread, but Adams' duties were to set up the draft board and provide insight/answers to questions on draft day. John Butler ultimately made the picks. And the lack of production from that year (which stands out in comparison to the ten good years previous to that) is a real head scratcher. The scouting department does not select the players, however, so I don't agree that Adams is a has-been because of the 2000 draft.

The Line allowed Holcolmb to shine

I agree. This was the first time in weeks that the opposing D-coordinator didn't blitz everyone but the cheerleaders. The O-line held up well in pass pro with only 4-men rushing, but the lack of push on the numerous goal line runs was embarassing for an NFL line. -
If you don't think winning 1 extra game can lead
Sound_n_Fury replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How about McGee, who's confidence at CB just elevated a notch? Or Josh Reed, who may finally be turning the corner on his career? Or Roscoe, who made his first meaningful play as a Bill? Or Jim Leonhard and Eric King, who look better and better each week? You're right, the win won't do much for the Bennie Andersons' and Sam Adams' of the world, but winning always has a positive value for young guys and backups that may soon be starters. -

Just like the Bills teams in the 90s...always drafted at the bottom of the round and found great players every year. I don't buy the "we need to lose so we can draft a better guy theory." What we need is talent evaluators who can find the "right guy" to compliment the team's personnel, coaching philosophy, chemistry, and attitude. It doesn't have to be a "top 5-10 pick"...which if you miss, can set you back for years. You can play the "if only we drafted two slots higher game" almost every year. How come no one ever says that when nearly one third of those players end up as busts? -

My choice for Bills next HC...

And your source for this insight IS..... -
I'd still give him another year behind a better line before I call him a complete disappointment. Willis had a better OL in front of him in college than he does now. And was rarely touched at The U until he had a full head of steam up. Now, he's getting hit in the backfield on half his carries and that's not gonna work for a power back with limited shiftiness. I'll agree that he needs to be pushed, however, and hopefully Gates can be that guy next year.
-
Gee, don't you think opposing DC's saw that film and have game planned accordingly since week 8? Also, Willis' most effective game in a month was last Sunday - when KH gave the team a credible passing threat and kept the defense from stacking against the run. The jury's still out on WM until we get some NFL level run-blocking O-linemen. My guess is the only RB that could've had success running behind these guys this year would've been Barry Sanders in his prime. Put Willis in a balanced offense with some better O-line talent and see what he can do. I'm betting he could be (at least) as good as Corey Dillon.

My choice for Bills next HC...

Isn't that what we said about MM and the Bills a year ago? Their five-win streak has come over a bunch of sad sacks: Week 12: Beat Oakland (4-11) 33-21 Week 13: Beat Buffalo (5-10) 24-23 Week 14: Beat San Diego (9-6) 23-21 Week 15: Beat NY Jets (3-11) 24-20 Week 16: Beat Tennessee (4-11) 24-10 Combine Win-Loss of Last Five Opponents: 25-49 (0.338) One win over a marginally good team is not much different than the Bills did during their streak last year. If you want to point to something positive, the Fins wins over Denver in Week 1 and Carolina in Week 3 are a lot more impressive. Let's see what the schedule maker for 2006 throws at Sabin before we judge him a success.... -
OK, let's turn this logic around...which of the Bills drafts since 2001 have been better / more productive?
-
OK, so how do you rate the Bills cumulative drafts from 1991 to 2001? Why the strange obsession with the 2000-01 drafts, but nothing on all the talent added to this team over Adams tenure? Those are facts, BTW. As SDS says, why am I wasting time on a troll???
