Reason #186 why WGR sucks
loadofmularkey replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yawn. You hate WGR with every fiber of your being, PTR...we get it already. Believe it not there are some of us who like it (myself included). No they did not have a post game show but they did have a 90 minute pregame show (97 Rock's was only 60!! gasp!!!!) What you fail to realize is that the guys over at WGR are probably loving it every time someone here posts something new about them (daily now it seems) or Pergament writes a negative article in the paper or whatever else, because they are getting mentioned and they are getting their name mentioned and in the exciting world of radio, that is all that really care about. Whether you're listening to them because they're the only option, or because you want to hear how bad they supposedly are or because you actually like them, they don't care because it all means ratings in the end. WGR is owned by one of tne of the largest radio corporations in the country and is seeing its numbers improve with each passing book. Chances are pretty good it's not going anywhere despite the number of personal crusades on this message board. I am a fan of the station and I'm not afraid to admit it and frankly I am sick and tired of all the bashing that goes on here. I don't know anyone who works there personally, but I listen to the station daily at work and have come to enjoy all of the hosts (even when they aren't talking sports!!!). Strange as it may sound, I have come to feel as if I know them personally. I don't believe this is a weird thing in the world of radio...it explains why hosts like Stern and Don & Mike have such a following. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to compare the WGR staff with Stern or Don & Mike, but I work in an office of about 50 and know of at least 10 other guys who also listen to the station and like it very much. We'll debate about what Howard and Jeremy are talking about that morning, or laugh at some of Rome's jokes and not once do we ever think, "God I can't believe how terrible this station is" or "Can you believe there was no postgame show last night? What a bunch of idiots". It seems as though the popular sentiment here is that the radio station sucks. I'm not sure exactly how many of WGR's regulars are also regulars on this board, but I think it's safe to say there are probably some (yes it's true) regular listeners and callers of the station who have no idea that this board even exists. (And yes, WGR does have fans...I happened upon their listener party this past winter and had a great time). Point is, the radio station has a fan base. If you don't care for the station, that's fine. And yes I think it's great there is a Bills forum for all of us to share our opinions on the team and also the local media. But as a fan of both, I am just exasperated and fed up with at least one WGR-bashing post on here per day (by one person in particular) just as most of us would be exasperated by at least one Bills/Losman/Mularkey/Donahoe-bashing post on here per day (by one person in particular). The station sucks (in your opinion). We freaking get it already. -

Whatever happened to BF anyway? Or are we not allowed to talk about it?? -
WGR...I can't believe how awful it is
loadofmularkey replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1.) Yes, there really are that many people in credit card debt. 2.) Obviously you've never been to Buffalo, otherwise you'd know never to knock Mighty Taco. 3.) The HUUUUUGE car dealership has ads on every other radio/TV station in WNY (and all of Central NY for that matter). I think WGR sales writes some of the ads, but those three are definitely provided by the companies themselves. Especially the HUGE man Billy Fucillo. -
OT: REALLY FRICKING MAD AT WGR55
loadofmularkey replied to The_Real's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If it was coming out of WGR 55, they would've been saying it during their 20 20 sports casts, which you also would've heard on hold. If they didn't mention it, there's probably nothing to it. If they did, then you heard. What's the big deal? -
Season opener should be fun!!

RW losing it or just a little ego
loadofmularkey replied to RVJ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe you only thought it was Ralph Wilson, when it actuality it was just some old guy. Upon having his hand shaken by a total stranger, the old guy turns to the attendant who is standing by him and is like, "Why did that guy just shake my hand?" -
Cutting Bobby Shaw last season

Yeah and according to Florio, TD is a retard who can't tie his own shoes. I believe absolutely nothing that guy says, especially after what recently transpired with the Henry trade. -
OT: Met's 3rd basemen makes Yankee fan cry.

I don't see where in that story it says the kid was 15 years old...but if that is true, the kid is a straight up baby. -
My thoughts exactly.

Now, I never took a business course in college, but from what I can piece together...businesses generally need business in order to stay in business. So yes. If people "boycott" car dealerships and smokeshops by not giving them business, said car dealerships and smokeshops will go under. Good God. Judging by your unbelievable hatred and venom for the employees of WGR and its sponsors, I'm tempted to believe you're the boss over there at Fan 590.
-
And again, I say you're the "crap flinging idiot" if you believe it's a good idea not to support their advertisers, most of whom are local businesses. If you really think that would shut down WGR, your knowledge about radio/TV is about as limited as your vocabulary. Get a life.
-
No way, that would make way too much sense Seriously though, I think putting Howard on by himself in the morning and letting him do his thing would be great. Put Jeremy back at nights with Brad...as evidenced by gomper's thoughts, not everyone is a fan but I like Brad and Jeremy together as do a lot of my 20-something friends.
-
Wow, that is quite ignorant. What a great idea. Don't support their advertisers, many of whom (according to the commercials they air) happen to be local businesses/restaurants/bars. Lori, I believe you're right...WGR did reach over 4.0 in the pre-WNSA days but the ratings are as high nowadays since then. I'm sure the loss of WNSA has something to do that, but you're right. We'll see how they do in the next book!

Thank you for posting that. Mike did an unbelievable job of describing the situation and remembering Freda. It was good to hear Mike, Buzz and Rob talk about it. Still very sad...prayers with Don, Bart and Big Freda.

Wow. That is just terrible...no matter how much kidding around he did about how much Frida was driving him nuts, you could just tell that Don adored her to no end. I can't possibly imagine ever going back to a job where your wife was known so well by not only your co-workers but by millions of people, in the listening audience. Frida was such an integral part of the show and this is a tragedy. I feel so bad for Don.

[OT] Arrested for going topless in public!

In 2001, court documents note, Mason was convicted of unauthorized use of property and placed on probation for six months, after spending 10 days in jail, for stealing library books. Um. Who steals library books? -
The funny thing about all this, is that WGR's ratings are higher than they've ever been since they switched to sports talk. I'm pretty sure that the big bosses and hosts will continue to do whatever gets them the numbers they want, which have been very good lately. I listen to the morning show every day at work and it's been MUCH MUCH better in recent weeks as far as sports talk goes. Howard and Jeremy have been talking Bills, baseball, LOTS of NHL...maybe he was reading the boards! Anyway, something also tells me they don't really mind the free publicity that Alan P. has given them the last few weeks. There's an old adage in show business that says something along the lines of any kind of publicity is good, whether it be positive or negative.

Get Ready To Celebrate You Hosers
loadofmularkey replied to Nanker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What odd reasoning. Well, it's good to know in these times of outrageous salaries in the NHL (even after a lockout) there is still a grassroots league like the NFL where the players play strictly for the love of the game and there is no such thing as an $8 million salary. Point is, if the money turns you off so much why bother following any pro sport? Welcome to 2005. -

My tickets came today and they do look very sharp. A nice mix of old and new as could be expected with the offseason festivities so far. -

Messier, Chelios and Hull should've called it quits years ago. Yzerman and Lemieux have been plagued by injuries recently. Stevens and MacInnis have both been slowing down and we all know about Hasek. Frankly, I couldn't care less about Damphousse, Nummenien, and freaking Murray Baron. Point is, no real surprise that these players may not return. They all probably should've quit before the lockout. -
LONDON IS UNDER ATTACK
loadofmularkey replied to nick in* england's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Oh my. A reporter on the scene on CNN says it's likely that it's a massive electrical failure/power surge because reportedly, one of the buses stopped first and passengers were able to get out before it exploded. CNN says there are at least three explosions, but possibly up to nine. Now, on Fox News what they're saying is "clearly a patterned terrorist attack". Oy. -

loadofmularkey replied to nick in* england's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yeah, not really hilarious. Nick, I've been watching CNN. I don't know if you're heard, but early reports indicate that it may have only been a power surge. I really hope that is correct. Stay safe. -
