Yeah...I agree with the poster above. That team had the benefit of a ridiculously easy second half schedule along with a few other things falling into place. Bottom line - they didn't make the playoffs. If Bledsoe was as great as you believe him to be, he would've shown up for that Pittsburgh game.

I noticed that last night too. One time they had the power play clock under Montreal, when it was Buffalo who had the man advantage. Although, the play-by-play guy last night was Joe Benitati (sp?) who I believe to hands-down be the worst announcer in the history of broadcasting. His work on Westwood One radio during the Olympics was God-awful, putrid. I feel sorry for Caps fans who have to listen to that guy on a regular basis. I know Doc Emrick gets a bad rap round these parts for some reason, but I'd take him over Benitati any day of the week.

Exactly. Obviously, they are going to start losing eventually. They had a couple of sour streaks in the regular season last year and always rebounded nicely with an even better winning/unbeaten streak. All you have to do is look at the playoffs. -- They lose two on the road at Philly...instead of getting down, they win the next two in convincing fashion to put the series away. -- With a chance to sweep, they lose Game 4 against Ottawa at home...instead of getting down, they beat the Sens on the road in Game 5. -- They fall behind 3-2 in the series to Carolina...they come back and beat those SOBs in Game 6. (And yes, they lost Game 7 but with a full roster, even just four healthy defensemen, blah, blah, etc., etc., who knows?) There are a couple of guys on this team who won't let their heads get too big and who will pull them out of it when the losing finally comes, not the least of which is their head coach.

The week that we blew a 21-point lead against Miami, followed by the Moulds soap opera and "Jerkgate" was also a pretty dumb week. We've had a lot of dumb weeks lately. Edit ----- Oh yeah, that was also the week Parrish threw a pass with a cast on his wrist. Dumb week.
