You just defined the solution and the problem. The problem is low wages. Overseas and in the USA. American corporations are the problem keeping wages low by shipping jobs overseas and using illegal aliens in the states. Ronald Reagan and Ralph Nader hated and hate the big companies.

$20,000 for a private jet plane for one day?
RLflutie7 replied to John from Riverside's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I can't understand why people think cost control is the way to go over revenue generation either. Like the UAW says, "you can't shrink your way to profitability." But that's what most companies have done, they tried to cut labor costs to the bare bone and it's biting them in the butt. Meanwhile, the brass spend wildly on golf outings. That's not about business, it's about eliteism. -
I guess he really makes me look bad now. To not know about overtime rules explains why he wanted to run the ball, rather than throw the ball, coming out of college. To me he would never throw the ball and now it seems he probably didn't really understand the passing game. He was never that good. He was hyped by the media to an extreme because he was booed on draft day. Tom Jackson compared it to knowing that if you write a check with no money in the bank you know it's going to bounce. He should have known the rules. And if he didn't know the rules, why didn't he know.

As a long-time basher of McNabb, I will say that he has been playing well this year. He blew a couple of games, but he has stopped that stupid running all the time. I will say I don't like black QBs because they tend to run too much and if you look at the stats, it's true. Vince Young just wants to rush the ball and he's learned that's not going to work in the NFL, or at least he should have learned. Time will tell. McNabb, however, has stopped the stupidity. He also doesn't hold the ball forever, like he used to, and then turn around and run with it. I never used to enjoy watching him play, but now I can say I actually enjoy watching him play. He's still not the most accurate passer, but at least he's looking at all the wideouts and then throwing the ball.

They've already done that haven't they? Many UAW workers have taken buyouts. Which means, they give up their benefits. I did a google and 40,000 took the buyouts. Basically, no such thing as retirement in the future and that may be a good thing. Probably a lot more on the way. I know I would take the 150K they were offered.

Bingo, Bingo, Bingo. I knew someone would say it better then me. That is why we have so many problems. It's the lack of leadership in our country. Why have a bunch of lawyers and MBA's running things. Notice how the bailout suddenly changed and the guy in charge was called a "chump" by a congressman. They're mad because, they were misled. We're bailing out Wall Street and not homeowners. And I heard other companies that don't need the money are trying to get it also and they'll get it and do as they please. The sad part is, the general public knew from the get go and now we are stuck. Paulson is a Golman Sachs a-hole so it doesn't surprise me about what's happening. And he'll sit there and lie to the press about it.

I know you were not trying to insult me, I got a little defensive and I'm sorry about that. I would agree with you that a college degree is overrated. But, I still don't like what's going on. Most companies, all they want to do is cut costs and they'll keep chopping at all jobs to decrease wages. I'm sure you've heard when Carly Fiorina (HP) and Craig Barrett (Intel) defended outsourcing and HB1 Visa programs. They want to bring in these low cost engineers from India and China. Microsoft wants the same thing. I'm just sick of this kind of stuff. I tried of these CEOs saying that American workers are slow, lazy, fat, stupid etc, etc. They just want to pay someone $8-9 an hour.

I knew you would say that and that's why I took the bait. I always hear people say this degree or that degree is not worth anything. And that's what is wrong with this country. If you don't have faith in the educational system then why have higher education? Although, I see your point. I watch Dave Ramsey on the Fox business channel. And I think he has the same sort of attitude. Ramsey doesn't seem to think an education is worth much of anything and I would tend to agree. I think most companies feel that way too. I think hiring young people fresh out of college for higher paying jobs is a joke. They don't really know anything. While I worked at my most recent job, Michigan State people came up to me and told me my degree didn't matter and there was plenty of opportunity. However, I never applied for jobs within the company because I didn't want the jobs they had. It wasn't the jobs, it was the company. I wouldn't want anything in the company I worked for. I didn't see a future there. Those same people (MSU people), while great people, are going to be looking for a job soon. Unless, they get transferred to a new location. And I don't really think that's an option. The company let go half of their employees and I don't think they're going to make it. I think you're wrong about engineering being a "useful degree". Engineering people always say a business degree or marketing degree is worthless and should be paid $8 an hour. Just the opposite is true at least from my view point. If I was an engineer, I'd keep my mouth shut because I see that as the next field that companies are trying to cut wages. Intel would love to hire all the $9 hour engineers they can get. As far as the real world is concerned, if I was in the engineering field, I'd be pretty concerned about what's going on. Auto repair: I wouldn't mind doing something in this field, but I'm a mechanical moron. I couldn't fix a car if I tried. I did look into it when I was around 30 years old. I think it's a great field. However, the people I talked to at dealerships said don't waste your time going to school for it. A guy told me 95 percent of the ASE guys he's hired are self-taught. It's not something you can learn in a school. Police: I wouldn't be a cop for anything in the world. I'd rather be a pizza delivery man. I've met cops when I was in the ticket scalping field and I wouldn't want that job. And they approached me and asked me if I'd consider a job in law enforcement. It's not worth the money. They have good benefits and all, but it's not worth it. I've met and talked to police that are no longer living. It's not worth it. The guys I knew responded to a call were a guy was waving a gun around at an apartment and people called police. He went to his apartment. They told him to come out. He didn't. They kicked the door in and he shot them. What I really would like to do is start a house framing business, but right now that's not going to happen. I know it's hard work and a lot of people would say don't do it because it's a seasonal business and I would tend agree with that. My dad knows several guys that are home builders, but they're not working now. One guy got a job, another is just hanging around doing nothing.

I've got a BA in communications. And I'd put that degree up against any business degree or marketing or whatever. It's the industry that you're in that determines your fate. Not the degree. There are three people in management at the company that went to the same school I did. And their jobs are as good as gone. I was encouraged to apply for other jobs, but I didn't because you could see the hand writing on the wall. The CEO came and said the company was going through an economic depression along with the rest of the economy. About a month later, boom, I was gone. I did a google on the company yesterday and they have a deadline for Nov. 13th. They're not going to make it. I feel sorry for the people that worked there for over 20 years, but they're toast. I'm sure management might get some sort of buy out, but even that's not likely. The company sucks and they're not going to give anyone anything. The biggest thing that bothered me, is no one seemed to realize what was going on. People seemed shocked when they were laid off. They warned us over and over that things were not going well.

I have a college degree and I got laid off in July from a factory job I had. My job required heavy lifting and I lost 25 pounds working that job. And I got paid $8.00 to start. Non union. The company is expecting to file for bankruptcy in a few days. They missed a debt payment. It's not labor that's the problem. This was a non-union shop and they blamed the blue collar worker for all the problems. (Low quality, slow workers they said). The real problem is they didn't have anyone who knew what the bleep was going on. They had so much turnover, the business didn't run at peak output. We never hit production numbers. It was a joke.

He was run out of town by Mike Martz. He had just 7 bad games. That's it. He was healthy, as far as I know, when the Rams lost in the playoffs to the Carolina Panthers, and they started Bulger. I've made several posts about Warner, before the Bills played the Cardinals and I said he walks on water, but the only reason people don't like him is his "jesus boy" stuff. And I stick by that. People don't like Warner because he's not PC. He's in the top 10 QB's of all time . . . easy.

I think this is all true and I can't understand why the Big 3 doesn't own their own dealerships and make the profit off the resale of used cars. They let fly-by-night jack offs make all the money. Several NFL owners are used car salesmen. The Saints owner, Benson, owns car dealerships and so does Red McCombs (Vikings former owner). I think that's about to change and change in a big way. I think also they should stop leasing cars. I think that's what killed them because it forces too many cars on the resale market and kills resale value. The customer comes in and he's "upside down" on the value of his trade in. Plus I think GM should blow out all the fly-by-night repair shops too. These people are just a bunch of jack offs. In the future, I can see the Big three opening mega-repair shops with over 100 bays each. Regional repair shops that hire over 300 ASE mechanics. Kind of like Walmart.

Bank of America CEO said half of the nations banks will fail. He said that on an interview with CNBC the day BofA mergered with Merrill Lynch.

Torn ACL out for the year. I thought he could help the Broncos turn their season around.

I think Jay Cutler is playing better than almost every other QB in the league. He made all the throws tonight and really rallied the Broncos to a great victory. It was his best day as a pro. He's learning touch and it's really helped. Granted the Browns defense helped alot, but he's really playing over-the-top.

Just got back from Grant Park
RLflutie7 replied to The Big Cat's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
That's why free trade is such a terrible concept. It's never applied with our interests in mind. It only serves multi-national corporations, so they can exploit cheap labor. I'm sure you are not talking about free trade, but I am. Globalism will only serve the few mega-rich people in the world, like Warren Buffett and it can only hurt everyone else. But it only helps those mega-rich people for a very brief period of time, and then it causes what we are now seeing in Wall Street . . . massive price deflation. -
I saw it and I think Ralph has a right to say what he wants. And he wouldn't take it back when given the chance. It's a free country.

I lost my job on July 16th. No notice . . . just warnings . . . They put up a sign for a company wide meeting after work, a week in advance. Not a word about the topic of the meeting . . . I think everyone knew what was going to happen. I was one of 60 employees let go. They took us to the break room and said "there's no easy way to do this . . . "

Broncos place Pittman and Hall on IR

He's banged up, but he'll still play. Mike compares Torain to T.D. -
We'll see what happens with Denver's run game now. I think it should get a little better with Torain. He looks like T. Davis.
-
I would see how you could say that, but . . . Mike Bell didn't work out and several others didn't last long either. Mike Bell didn't have the talent. He was hyped as a possible starter as a free agent . . . but it was clear he didn't have talent. Travis Henry could have worked out, but his head wasn't in the right place. You're saying some guys had some production with Denver and went to another team and did nothing. That's true. Tatum Bell was like that.

Most of the time, it's the running back. Way back around the draft, I thought the Bills should have drafted another running back. I can't understand why teams have 10 linebackers and 10 defensive backs and only 3 or 4 running backs. Then they turn around and say how important it is to have a running game. The Bills should have drafted another running back - higher in the draft. In fact, I'd take a RB almost every year. The position requires it. I remember saying, that teams should draft offense only and get defense with free agents. Look at Denver, the get running backs every year, and I expect Ryan Torain to break out soon. Plus the have a smaller o-line. With the exception of our new LT.

What a game!

I've read all the posts and I think this one is right on. If this girl was interested in you, she'd be with you. She's not with you, she's with the "wife beater" badass. Make a mental note of that. She might be using you, and she'll go right back with the "wife beater" or another guy like him. You may have contacted the police . . . but that was you and not her . . . She needs to leave and it's her decision. She has to make it happen. . . stay away from this girl.

Chargers tickets anyone scalp/buy
RLflutie7 replied to Hammered a Lot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was wondering how it was going in Buffalo. I used scalp tickets for a living in Phoenix, but I don't like doing it as much because I hate traveling. Although, that's what ticket scalpers do . . . they travel and follow the hot ticket. I usually go to Colts games and Bears games and I sell at ND. I haven't been to a Colts game this year yet even though it's probably big with the new stadium. I haven't been to a Bears game in a while etiher.
