  1. I guess we agree on something Lori. Bottom line, it's a drop in the bucket what they're going to save cutting these jobs. They're not saving anything. What they should do is lower the salary cap. They can't do that right now. But in the future, I think the players (even with the union) would agree to cuts. And I think they'll agree to big cuts. Look what happened to the Arena Football league. No season.
  2. But you see, you're not really free to leave anytime you want. Ask Bobby Petrino. He did nothing wrong. He left an employer and yet he was ripped up and down in the media. The guy got another job. He's not required to give any notice at all. Same thing goes for Nick Saban. He did nothing wrong. Everyone said he lied. That's horse hockey. He's not required to tell anyone if he is in the process of getting another job. Lou Holtz tells his coaches "you better tell me if your looking for another job because I'll help you find one". And that's a good policy to have, but most people don't. How many times have employers lied about layoffs and then turned around and did it anyway. Grow up!.
  3. You seem to miss the idea that employers and employees are in a partnership. And when that partnership is one sided then it becomes knowing the difference between right and wrong. Most partnerships fail. And most business ventures end in failure. However, when an employer makes record profits it's reasonable to conclude that they owe their employees something. A decent wage and/or job security. Most of the time employees are very understanding when it comes to a struggling business that needs to cut back to get lean. It's also a general practice in this country that employers wait until after the new year to hire or fire employees. That's been a fact of life in this country for years. Furthermore, look at how Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank was crying about how Bobby Petrino left him high and dry. He was saying that he committed all these expenses to paying Petrino's assistants and that Petrino stuck him no coach with no notice . . . blah blah. It's called "employment at will". And if you can take advantage of "employment at will" you can also be burned by it. Don't bleeping cry about it. That's what being a business man is all about. Don't get up there in front of the media and start crying about someone's lack of committment to you as an employee, when you'll just turn around and fire someone for no reason at all.
  4. According to ESPN news. ESPN has no comment.
  5. It's the sick minded greedy people who hate workers who make an above average wage. They probably love Walmart too.
  6. Yup! Another Wall Street lie. Goldman Sachs strikes again. Wasn't it those fine people who said that soaring oil prices came from soaring demand for oil in China. I guess the fine people of China decided to go back to riding bikes. Why does the media fall for this sh-- over and over. The average joe in America new it was speculation on Wall Street. Sometime in June, I bet my dad that we'd see gas below $1.00 a gallon again. I just may be right.
  7. My focus was more on the USFL than the XFL. Although I think the XFL did have a couple solid teams. I think if both leagues did one thing right, it's that they got brand recognition. They may not have had good TV ratings but people knew the teams. One their website, they have the NJ Generals, LA Express, Birmingham Stallions, Washington Federals, Boston Breakers as teams that are coming back. But they have to contend with the UFL which also has a website. Time to watch football . . .
  8. Someone stole my idea. Just bring back the old USFL and it's teams. They're not going to have all the old teams but they say they're going to have some. On their webstie, they also say they've had talks with Ralph Wilson Stadium. It's on newusfl.com. I've always thought that you need more than six or eight teams to create a new league. The XFL didn't have enough teams. My idea was to merge the XFL with old USFL teams and move the season closer to the real spring-summer time. Not in February or March . . . but later in the year. More like a summer league. You have some overlap of teams . . . Like Orlando renegades and the Orlando Rage, but that could be worked out.
  9. During the Flutie/Johnson era, I watched the John Butler show on Empire and a caller asked him why the Bills didn't practice out in the cold. He said they found that the players got too run down and tired. And that lead to injuries. Most if not all NFL teams practice inside . . . they may run a few drills outside, like a previous poster said, to get used to the idea of playing outside, but they don't spend 2 hours outside. John Madden said in one of his many books that he would not let Ken Stabler throw a wet football in practice because it gets too heavy. He didn't want to tire his arm out.
  10. You just said what I said in the first post of this thread. I said that I thought Dononvan McNabb was Vince Young before Vince Young became Vince Young. I'm saying that McNabb has developed into a pocket passer, more so than at any time in his career. I'm saying he should have been benched earlier in his career . . . when he rushed for all the yards at the expense of learning how to throw the ball. And yes, I said the WR's are an issue and were an issue in his career. The same thing happened to Elway . . . Look at Elway's career . . . I could make of list of about 50 WR's that played with Elway and yes Elway took a long time to develop and he took major lumps from the media. Not everyone was a John Elway fan in the media. It was mostly Dan Reeves, and it was partly Elway's fault that things didn't go so well. It wasn't until Wade Phillips came that Elway really made strides in the passing game . . . which was 10 years into his career. I went to Philly.com and the people there blame "McFailure" or "McFraud" for his short comings but they also lay into Andy Reid for his stupid play calling and a lack of quality running game.
  11. The Bronocos with make the playoffs with a 7-9 record. They have a terrible run defense, which usually means a 8-8 record at the most.
  12. He seems to go into a slump every year. Maybe if the media would leave the guy alone. Most players put up 4 to 5 bad games a year. My problem is the media has acted like he was flawless, when he was a younger player. Since all those championship game losses the media has been less kind. And you can thank Rush Limbaugh for that. He got the media to be more accountable for their coverage of MnNabb, fair or unfair.
  13. My posts are not all over the place and have plenty of substance. No one has called me on the rush attempt arguement because it's true. McNabb has gained a lot of yardage on the ground. More so than most NFL QBs. I gave Donovan his due with the low interceptions and I'll give him his due with arm strength and the fact that he's developed as a player.
  14. He's spread the ball around this year, like I haven't seen in the past. He doesn't look at just one receiver and he doens't hold the ball forever. And in 2004 he had one of the least amount of rushing attempts he's had in a season and they went to the Superbowl that year, didn't they. So, my point is proven, when he stopped the running and looked to throw the ball instead, he did better. A lot of people say TO helped him and he did, so yes the wideouts were a problem early in his career.
  15. I can think of several QBs that deserve the Hall of Fame way before McNabb. It's a yearly thing with McNabb defending himself for his subpar performance. Those QBs are as follows: Jim Plunkett, Ken Stabler, Joe Theisman, Dave Kreig, Kurt Warner. I could go on and on. Answer me this question: Has Dononvan McNabb ever thrown for over 30 TDs in a season and how many times? Why is he so inaccurate? He's played well this season, except the last two games and at the end of games, but he's improved and he's stopped his stupid running like a running back. Kerry Collins, I don't think he's ever done that either (30 TDs), and he's always been a passing QB. with multiple seasons of over 500 attempts. Why hasn't anyone here challenged me on black QBs running too much? Because the yardage gained and attempts speak for themselves.
  16. I wish running backs could last as long as QBs. Maybe LT can get a couple more seasons. He'd be smart to share more time with the two other guys.
  17. from John Madden on Sunday night. He basically said, LT isn't the same player that he was and I kind of think he's right. I think they could get some things done with Darren Sproles and Jacob Hester and there's no shame in that. LT has always seemed to struggle against the better teams. At least once or twice a year he has a terrible game. The guy's been great and he can score at will, but he's fallen off the last two years.
  18. OK. I'll buy that. I do think Donovan has had the benefit of being a passing QB and his results have been mixed at best (stat wise). Kind of like Kerry Collins. Kerry's had like five straight years with over 500 pass attempts and yet he doesn't put up Kurt Warner or Drew Brees type numbers. McNabb is getting a long conversation on ESPN . . . which seems to be a yearly thing.
  19. Yes, I remember that and that was a dumb thing to say. I don't, and I know most fans don't, want a QB playing running back. P.S. I dare Tim Tebow to come to the NFL and run like he does in college. They'll knock his head off.
  20. He's only been a top 5 QB almost his entire career. Can you truely back that up? I dont' think you can stat wise. He's been on a team that had a good defense that kept teams out of the endzone. He does have a very, very low interception rate. That's always been the thing with McNabb and that is a great thing. But I guess you didn't follow the McNabb and Aikman controversy about three or four years back. Aikman said McNabb was one of the most inaccurate passers he's seen and it hit a raw nerve in Philly. And it's was documented by Sal Paolantonio of ESPN.
  21. You don't know my history on McNabb. I never thought he was that good. I never liked him and said so on these pages as early as 2000 and 2001. McNabb hasn't played many full seasons since his been hurt and he still rushed the ball a lot, given the number of games he played. I never made that comparsion because he's black. I did say that black QBs seem to rush the ball too much. Vince Young, Mike Vick, Donovan McNabb, Daunte Culpepper and Steve McNair, Randall Cunningham all have had years were they have had a ton a rushing attempts. Way more than white QBs. Both Vick and Culpepper have has seasons with over 100 rush attempts. Cunningham got sacked a lot early in his career because he was always trying to run. Plus Cunningham had his best year with his least rush attempts.
  22. I said I thought Donovan has played his best football this year! He deserved to be benched in previous years when he was OUTPLAYED by three different backup. That's not a flip flop. He was never that good to begin with and Rush Limbaugh was right.
  23. I think you're right. When Flutie played in Canada, I was not impressed with the crowds up there and they DID NOT sell more tickets with Flutie in the CFL. I did enjoy watching the CFL, but they have some rules that I would change. They have some different terms for the same penalties in the NFL also. I think the NFL prices up there it's not going to work. Those prices are a ripoff. If Canada won't buy a CFL ticket how are they going to buy a NFL ticket.
  24. You hit the nail on the head. I've met so many people from Canada at Phoenix Coyote hockey games and spring training games and they are the nicest people. When I talk to people from Canada I can guess that they're from Canada before they tell me and they often appear stunned and ask me how I knew they were from Canada. I think the USA used to be like that. But, now we're not.
  25. I think Donavon McNabb has played his best football this year (until the last 2 games), and I can't figure out why they didn't bench him long before. He always tried to rush the ball rather than throw it. Now he throws the ball instead of running it and he throws interceptions. I always thought McNabb was Vince Young before Vince Young became Vince Young. McNabb was outplayed by three backups when he got hurt earlier in his career and now this. It seems odd timing, but I think the owner has seen enough and so have the fans. Not knowing about the overtime rules could end McNabb's career and I don't think he'll live it down if he goes to another team. On the pregame shows, they played more video that I had not seen earlier. He said something like "what if the Superbowl ended in a tie?" That's really someone who doesn't know anything about his job.
