  1. Maybe the other end is actually the ego-driven rush to be the first with the news - damn the facts. Errant early reports. Only 1 of 13 alive. In critical condition.
  2. Ummm....I think a more appropriate lyric for this thread would be L-O-L-A.....Lola
  3. I suppose I'd do her too, so long as her balls didn't get in the way.
  4. Yeah she's pretty hot.....if you dig chicks that could pass for a guy in drag.
  5. I've said many times that the "loser" Bills' superbowl teams of the 90's had the kind of talent that they would kick the snot out of any superbowl winner of the last 7 or 8 years.
  6. Maybe up until now, Mr.Wilson's main line of communication has been TD, who's been trying to deflect blame from himself in order to save his own ass. Now RW may want to get MM's take on where the problems lie, directly from the horses mouth. If MM can provide good enough answers as to why he was unable to be successful, he may save his job for another year. He did, afterall, do a pretty good job in his rookie year rallying the troops. His record is 14-18 in two years. Not great, but not at the bottom of the barrell either. Considering the lack of talent in the trenches, how much better could Parcells, Gibbs, Vermeil, Gruden, Billick, or Bilichick have done? They are all coaches who've won the big one. They too have had some below .500 teams in the in the past as they've built their squads. I thought some of the play calling sucked, but after thinking about it further, maybe Mularkey had to make unconventional calls because of the ineffectiveness and ineptitude of the offensive line. You can't run an offensive play as it's drawn up during chalk talk if the defensive end is in your backfield one second after the ball is snapped. I do think, however, that he needs to get away from some of the gimmick plays and razzle dazzle crap. Looks cool when it works, but it usually doesn't. With the field position the kicking and return teams have provided, any semblence of an offense should get the Bills 4 or 5 more wins next season. The big mistake may have been handing the job to JP Losman too soon. Holcomb, though probably not the next coming of Joe Montana, is efficient, goes through his progressions nicely, and shows far more poise than JP. Was it Tom Donahoe's decision to go with Losman without even considering a training camp competition? That might be the one theat sealed his fate as the Bills' GM. JP may come along in time, but right now, he's like...well...like a QB who needs some seasoning. After he sits, learns, and matures, he'll have the opportunity to combine his QB education with his natural athletisism. Could be a real good QB, but I'd rather have him learn on his own time than all of ours. After the Patriots mauling of the Bills a few weeks ago, Donahoe had a more somber than usual tone to his voice during post-game interviews. He's been relatively humble and quiet since. I have a feeling that Mr. Wilson told Donahoe of his lame duck status shortly after that Patriot game, telling him that he could keep his position until season end. Is Modrak the answer? I don't think so. I don't know exactly what his role has been regarding personnel the last few years, but obviously the talent is not there. What has been his conribution (or lack of)? Will Marv be brought back in some capacity? Wouldn't surpise me a bit. Maybe the guy on the Bears staff (Buffalo native)will be interviewed. Maybe Marv and him will carpool to back to Buffalo from Chicago. The Bills have some good players in key positions. If they can get the O and D lines up to NFL standards, they might surprise some people next year.
  7. Need clarification. Why would the Bills have a higher pick (#8) than Arizona and Detroit when those two teams seem to have higher "strength of schedule" percentage number? Shouldn't the Bills have the # 10 pick?
  8. 3 of the Bills 11 losses came against the teams drafting 1-6, none of whom won more than 4 games throughout the season!!!! Should auld acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind and good riddance Tom Donahoe. Thanks to the players who gave their all in spite of the obstacles created by the administration. Get well Takeo, et al.
  9. Geez, the poor bastard is being held or tackled from behind on just about every pass play, yet there's almost never a penalty called!!! Go figure. Schobel comes to play. 51 more like him and we got us a playoff team.
  10. Maybe he was drunk and thought he was at a Williamsville South football game. Considering the on-field product, I can see where he might have been confused.
  11. Well thank you. Thank-you-very-much.
  12. Hmmmm. A hunch.... or a "Suspicious Mind"? Perhaps RW Stadium should be renamed "Heartbreak Hotel". It's "Now or Never" to get this team "All Shook Up". "Don't Be Cruel" when I say this, but I'm just thinking Donahoe needs more than a "Good Luck Charm". He needs to "Surrender".
  13. I agree. These uniforms will forever be associated with the seasons of futility. I recently saw one of those NFL Yearbook things featuring the Bills from a few years ago. They were wearing their home blue jersey/white plants combo and I gotta say, I liked it far better than the current ones. Again, maybe it's just that I immediately think of the glory years when I see the old unis that makes me like them better. If we went back to the old ones, I'll always associate the navy blue on navy blue pajama costume with the Bledsoe/Donahoe era. Normally I don't care all that much about uniform discussions, but this time I'll make an exception.
  14. I've never quite understood the knock on Flutie about his attitude. Can you cite some specific examples? Flutie was about as competative as they come. If that's perceived as "having an attitude", well then, I wish some of the current team had a fraction of his attitude. Attitude is precisely what is lacking in the current team. Apart from Fletcher, Takeo, Losman, and a scant fe others, there seems to be little fire in their hearts. Something else that's often overlooked where Flutie was concerned - he inspired his other teammates to reach their full potential, making the whole team better. Yeah,so... the guy probably has a huge ego. I tend to think that's a driving force with many successful people. Knock Flutie all you want, but the record is indisputable no matter how you try to put your personal spin of dislike on the guy.
  15. Man, does that bring back some memories. I don't follow basketball at all anymore, but back in the day, I loved the Braves and watched regularly. You can chart the downfall of the WNY economy and and it all started right about the time the Braves left. Not saying that the move had any affect, but it was one of the first in a series of nothing but bad economical news and troubled times that has plagued the Buffalo area since. I don't think finances were a problem with the Braves, were they? Didn't they draw well and have a good fan base? What was the deal with Snyder and the move that made NBA basketball gone forever in Buffalo? I would love to see a team back in Buffalo, but I can't see it ever happening.
  16. Kinda sorry to hear that. Makes me wonder if he was just playing to the Boston radio audience, telling them what they want to hear, or has he been doing that to the Bill's faithful who eat up any praise from former Bills who speak positively about their team and city. I think he was resentful that he just missed the success of the Bills glory years (and 49ers for that matter) and thought he was a better nose tackle than his replacement, Jeff Wright. I suppose he has a chip on his shoulder as a result, but I can't take him all that seriously. Fred? If you're out there, let's hear your side.
  17. Didn't know there was such animosity for old # 76. What's that all about? I will say this...compared to the new breed of players in the era of free agency (like Willis McGahee), who don't give a rat's ass about the Buffalo Bills, Smerlas was a loyal Buffalo Bill. He has stated he still bleeds Buffalo Bills red, white, & blue. I think that's part of the problem with today's Bills - they don't have any passion for their team. Playing archrival Miami means nothing to them. Playing for team pride and the fans of WNY means absolutely nothing to the "I gotta feed my family" generation of narcissists wearing the Bills logo. When I hear of McGahee laughing it up after the Miami game, it makes me which I could B word slap that self centered a-hole. Can you picture Thurman being in a jovial mood floowing a loss (especially to Miami)? Don't know what your beef is with Fred Smerlas, but at least he gave his all to the team when he was on the their roster.
  18. A lot of these quotes are directly from the Fred Smerlas/Vic Carruci book, "By a Nose". According to the book, Smith, during his rookie season, called Bullough (to his a face) a !@#$ stick. I laughed like hell when I read that. The idea of this rookie (coulda been his sophomore year?) telling this established NFL coach his personal worth is nothing more than being a !@#$ stick. What a great insult. Midway through the '86 season, Bullough, the master of malaprops, was canned and Levy took over. The rest is history.
  19. That's some convoluted logic there Dave. Driving down the field with 50 yards of green and an endzone in front of you is a COMPLETELY different thing than only having a total of 13 yards to work with. You need a win to keep your slim playoff hopes alive. You can pretty much seal the deal and a win with a field goal. Assuming Willis doesn't fumble, running the ball will almost assure a chipshot field goal. Throwing across the field with DBs playing tight coverage (because of the short field) is not a high percentage play. It's a far greater risk than just handing off the ball. The Dolphins are desperate, down by 20 points. They're gonna pull all the stops. They're not worried about interference penalties. They've got nothing to lose. The proof is in the pudding. We all saw the results. Do you not agree that the Bills would probably have won the game had they just handed off to McGahee? If you don't, you're in complete denial.
  20. I had two of the Mobil glasses. My wife keeps buying new drinking glasses but insists on drinking from that damned Bills glass. I warned her but she wouldn't listen. She finally broke the second one a couple of weeks ago. She'd already broken the first one a long time ago. Wait'll my lawyer hears about this.
  21. Well, if you read my previous post, you already know my view on this play. Any dispute on this point?...The object of the game is to win - plain and simple. Doesn't matter if it's by one point or 45 points. It all counts the same come playoff time. The best chance to secure the win in yesterday's game, with 19 minutes and a 20 point lead, was to score at least 3 points. This would have put the Dolphins in a position where they would have needed 24 unanswered points to take the lead. The likelihood of them getting 3 TDs all accompanied by 2 pt conversions was remote. Keeping this in mind, the Bills should have played a very conservative series. Yes, it might have been a boring 1,2,3, Willis for no gain series, but it would have almost surely gotten them the 3 points to lock up the game, making the score 26-3. Furthermore, it could have taken the wind out of the Dolphins sails. Instead, the turnover produced the total opposite effect, giving them hope. On the other hand, they may have gotten the TD with Willis running. That would have been the cue for the fat lady to start singing. Let's look at it this way: Say you're Batman and the Joker has your balls clamped to the table of an approaching logging buzzsaw. All you need for the Joker hit the stop button is for the Bills to get 3 points and you get to keep your nuts. Do you want to see the young JP throw the ball in a short field or do you want to see the Bills play it safe so they can kick the 3 pointer ( or possibly get 6)? If I'm making the call, I want Willis to get the ball (the one with Tagliabue stamped on it), hold it tight, and run like hell towards the endzone.
  22. Have a problem with this one. S Williams is one of the few guys who comes to play and takes the game to heart. There was a very successful pass play yesterday -and I wish I could remember exactly which one - but Willams was lined up in the backfield and saved JP, rolling to his right, from getting sacked. If you have it TiVo'd it came around the 1:05 mark of the game. Williams, the little 5'7" scrapper, staying in as a blocker, was holding his own against a much bigger Dolphin linebacker, and was determined not to let him get to Losman. If the rest of the team played with that measure of heart, they'd now have 3 or 4 more wins this season.
  23. Not sure if this has been brought up yet, but what the hell was that all about? - Roscoe Parrish lined up in the QB position, throwing a pass. As CBS broadcasters Don & Steve pointed out, they were probably setting something up for a later play. Gee...Ya think? It was obvious to Don, Steve, me, and everyone else watching the stupidity of it. So next week when they have the same lineup against the Patriots, they'll make it look like the same play, but wait... (Vinny Barbarino voice)... you're not gonna believe this....Roscoe will run or try to shovel off to a halfback. Boy, won't Belichik be surprised when that happens!!!! Not. I like MM and I'm not giving up on him just yet as our coach, but geez, what can you say about the play calling but, "What a bunch of Mularkey".
  24. You're missing the point. What's so wrong with "settling for a field goal" when you know that's pretty much all you should need to put this game away? The game isn't about scoring touchdowns. It's about winning. They lost when they could most likely have won it by scoring 3 points on that drive. Their best chance get those points was by pounding the ball. Barring a (unrecovered) fumble or a really bad field goal attempt, the Bills would have been up by 23 points. THAT's the worst case scenerio. I think their chances of Willis or JP running into the endzone were fairly decent as well. All in all, a pass play at that point was riskier than just playing conservatively. They blew it.
