Looks like our next year schedule is
SouthernMan replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
2007 Opponents: Home: Dolphins, Jets, Patriots, Bengals, Cowboys, Giants, Ravens, Chiefs Away: Dolphins, Jets, Patriots, Browns, Eagles, Redskins, Steelers, TBD AFC South Opponent -
When it opened in 1973, THAT was considered state of the art. No other NFL team had a scoreboard on which you could watch replays and other video graphics. Prior to that time, it was all just static numbers for scores, down & distance, etc. The one that freaks me out is the new thing going in down in Dallas. My god, it looks like The Titantic suspended from the roof of the arena. Why bother paying hundreds going to the game if you're just going to watch it on a big ass screen with minature versions (actual players) moving around below the screen?

The new, mature, Peerless Price
SouthernMan replied to ChicagoRic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's more to the story.. ... Rock music was a new thing and TV studio sound engineers weren't that adept at doing sound for live rock acts. During rehearsals that afternoon, The Beatles had chalkmarks put near the console dials on the sound board, to mark where the levels should be for the best mix. The cleaning crew was in before showtime, and cleaned all the chalk marks off. Don't know if it was the same George stand-in who cleaned the marks. What this has to do with Peerless Price - I have no idea. But I agree...Peerless has shown a lot more maturity this year. I was glad to see him go a couple of years ago, but am pleased with his play this year. That said, I still think we need another serious wideout threat to compliment Evans to give us a one-two punch. Peerless is good/adequate, but he's not near pro-bowl status. Rumor is that the Ed Sullivan janitor was really the walrus. -
By "skyline", you mean the ancient HSBC building, the Liberty Bank building, and city hall? ahem...I think it best to keep one end closed.
-
That doesn't exactly make sense. That's like saying you saved 25% on $40 Rob Johnson jerseys, so you put $10 in your pocket. You didn't make $10, you just didn't spend it. Same with Wilson. He'd have to take it out of his pocket, only to put it back in. So, next time you see Wilson at training camp, standing on the sidelines playing pocket pool, you'll have some insight into what's actually going on down there. He's just putting his wad back where it belongs.

my god, our uniforms look awful.

Thanks again for joining us. And tomorrow on "The View".....Tom Cruise chimes in with his suggestions on the Bills uniform attire. -
I think it's become cliché to talk about rebuilding the D-line, but really, how much are we talking about here? Kelsay/Denney/Schoebel are doing fine on the outside. As far as the inside goes, Tripplett isn't spectacular, but he's steady. We still have Kyle Williams and McCargo, both of whom look promising in their first year. Tim Anderson, again, not going to make any probowl ballots, but he's been slowly coming along and has made some plays. Like most teams, they could use some depth, but that's a luxury, not at the top of the priority list. If we address the D-line, I would hope it would be in the form of a good run-stuffing DT. When Big Ted, Sam Adams, or Pat Williams were plugging up the run game, that's when the Bills were ranked in the top 2 or 3 defenses. Stopping the run IS the key to being a dominant defense. Naturally, they need to start thinking about linebacker, with aging vets, injuries, etc. The positions I'd ilke to see filled would be a stud anchor at Center, a Tight End who demands a lot of attention from the LBs (hopefully opening up the run game)and another wideout that could compliment Evans. Price has played well this year, and Reed has managed to show some good hands, but neither is going to take the heat off of Evan. The special teams is solid. I think the defense will be fine with some minor tweaking. A couple of big league weapons for Losman could put them over the top. I don't think they're necessarily 2 years away as one of the replies suggests. A littles seasoning and continued progress by the guys already in place, some luck on the injury front, and a few spots to be filled by FA and a strong draft, and the Bills could be a top contender with a young team. Man, what a different attitude after a good win.
-
The Bills are 4-2 in their last 6 games! This is their first year under a new coaching staff, and maybe now they're finally getting in the groove. Signs of a team that is a year away from being in the thick of it? Could this be this regime's 1987? Jusy think...they had 3 games against 3 AFC division leaders (Indy, Sandy Eggo, and New England opening day) losing all three by a combination of 7 points. One more good draft and a few decent FA signings and we might be filling all the seats again next year at at The Ralph and talking playoffs. Maybe we'll be on the ascent while New England is on the way down and we can start thinking Division winner again. How different would the playoff picture look right now if they didn't give hapless Detroit 1 of their 2 victories? The Bills AGAIN have what looks like one of the toughest schedules, and yet still have a decent chance to go .500. How do they seem to get the toughest schedule year after year? This year they had Chargers, Colts, Bears, Ball Tim More, and Patriots twice. WTF? Anywho...happy Monday morning.
-
Yeah!!!! And then within a year or two, we're a superbowl contender and after that, a team devestated by FA losses, so now we're back to 7-9, and then just one more year, back to 3-13, and Jauron will be fired and a new regime all over again. Man, this sucks.

Maybe there's a connection between fan attendance and your stance on standing. Personally, I am greatly annoyed by the folks who have trouble being seated. I'm not talking about the moments of elation where jumping up is appropriate and even expected....I'm talking about obtructing my view throughout the game, bellowing like a buffoon, and being a general nuisance to the people around you. I'm there to watch a football game, not some Neanderthal nitwit who's mommy didn't breast feed him and is now in desperate need of attention. There's obviously no concern or consideration for those behind you who may not physcially be able to stand for long periods of time. No concern for shorter people of children who may have to constantly look for a crack between spectators so they can see the action below. This sort of rude behavior is exactly why I am not rushing out to buy tickets to the game anymore. This year was only about the second in the past 30 in which I haven't attended a game. Maybe with age, I'm just getting more intolerent of boorishness, but I'm sure there are many who feel the same way. For a family of 4 to go the game, it's an easy $200+ day. Why would I want to waste the money and worse, expose my kids to such stupidity. And by the way - if you think it's ticket revenues from the young 18-25 year old yahoos, full of piss and vinegar are the ones going to keep the team in WNY, you're mistaken. An event that condusive to a wholesome family atmosphere is the only way the team will survive long term.

High Def this week for Bills? Not.
SouthernMan replied to SouthernMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm surprised the NFL doesn't pressure CBS to have all games available in HD. I understand CBS has paid a ton of money for the rights to show the games, but I would think there would be stipulations in place that would promote the NFL's valuable product. of the 32 NFL teams, the 16 NFC (Fox) teams have AT LEAST 14 games in high def, with the possibility of their 2 AFC homes games being on NBC or ESPN primetime games. Of the 16 AFC (CBS) teams, about 6-8 will have elite status, and get a fair share of CBS high def and primetime high def games. That leaves the AFC middle-lower tier teams, who unfortunately, get hosed on the high def broadcasts. Through a quirk of fortunate scheduling, the Bills have actually had their share (8 of 11) of high def games this year. Amazing, considering their W-L record and lack of primetime games. With any luck they'll get one or two more against either the Jets, Dolphins, or Ravens. Still, CBS needs to get with 21st century technology. -
CBS with their generous supply of HDTV NFL programming has, as usual, 3 games being broadcast in HD format. Why are they even in the NFL picture? Teh games are: Indy and Tennessee Kansas City and Cleveland Jets and Packers. Indy is automatic. But why the other 2 games? Jets, I assume because it's a bigger market. In each of those contests, there is a combined 10 wins between the 2 teams. The Bills/Chargers matchup has a combined 14-win matchup. Maybe the feeling is that the other games are more closely matched teams, and a more entertaining game is likely. When is CBS going to get with the program and start putting all their games in high def?

My pet peeves: I could "of" gone to the game in place of I could HAVE gone.... I "could" care less. Oh really? Logic says that you must then care a great deal if it's possible to care less. It should be "COULDN'T" care less. I've seen columns where seasoned journalists and other educated professionals make this same mistake. Your not alone their. -
Anyone notice the conspicuously absent photos of a certain longtime tenant?

Another thing conspicuously absent in Losman's game is the use of the pump-fake. Manning, Favre, and Brady both use this manuever extensively to send DE jumping into the air and freezing up DBs, giving the receivers a chance to make a break and get open. And how about a drop back where the D-line is pulled deep into the back field to set up a screen pass? Not in the play book? Yeah, I agree. I think he's being over-coached and not being allowd to play his game. The O-line is barely giving him a chance, but even on the plays that they are, he's got to take chances once in a while. It also doesn't help that there's not a starting caliber TE on the roster. I think Losman is so a-scared of turnovers, he's not being aggressive enough. It's like the receiver has to be wide open to even consider throwing in their direction. Time to take off the training wheels and see if he can do anything productive in his own style. But I still don't think he can be assessed fairly until he has an offensive line that can be counted on to protect him.

I could watch this 100000000 times
SouthernMan replied to taterhill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Touché. But let me make a small correction: I would have liked a director's cut version of "Bambi" where they show Bambi's mother getting butchered and packaged at a processing house in Sloan. And at the very end, the YouTube guy yelling, "yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh". Kill the mother! -

So, let's get this straight.... you could watch this 100,000,000 times. If you watched is constantly without interuption, that's nearly 143 years worth of watching this guy. (how's that for not getting over myself) The guy sounds like a typical loudmouth Buffalo jerk-off who's had one too many boiler-makers at his local South Buffalo gin mill. The only thing more obnoxious than a bellowing moron, is one who can't get anything right (see Ted Kennedy) Somehow, this is the kind of loudmouth who always seems to find their way to the seats right near me at rock concerts and football games. Now, back to your YouTube video. Don't want to miss another second this captivating video. -

Awesome? He's a !@#$ing idiot!!! Right up there with face & body-painting and puking on the beer bus. It's kinda cute when you're 16 and rooting for you high school team, but his turd is a few years past what should have been his graduation year. Makes me embarrased for myself and fellow Bill's fans. -
The blue/blue look doesn't seem complete without a red cape hanging from the shoulders. It looks like a cheap Marvel comics outfit or come bad Christmas pajamas. Anyway, the navy blue, even in high def, looks very blahhh. Not very dynamic at all. And as long as we're into a gay-ass uniform discussion - if they don't want to go with the retro white helmets, at least think about having the current ones changed to a metallic candy-apple red look and a metalic blue chargeing bison. Wouldn't that be sharp? I like the metallic paint job look that the Giants, Eagles, and many others now have.

The only way I would support a downtown stadium is if there was ample outdoor tailgating space and they don't have a domes stadium. The good news is that downtown acreage isn't all that pricey compared to many cosmopolitan areas like New York, Chicago, etc. I live in Atlanta, and tailgating is practically non-existent for Falcons games. There's just not much in the way of outdoor parking lots, greenspace, etc., in which to tailgate. They encourage use of mass transit and downtown parking decks/garages. I can't imagine not having the pre-game festivities that are part of the WNY Bills experience. The beauty of tailgating is that even during the inevitable "off years" when the team is in rebuilding mode, tailgating ensures a fun day at the stadium with fellow fans, regardless of the game's outcome. As for domes - I HATE THEM. I'm not typically claustrophobic, but it just doesn't seem natural being under this oversized circus tent cover. Besides, late season games in the cold are part of the homefield advantage the Bills enjoy over teams coming from more temperate climates. When it's too tough for them, it's just right for us!!!

Nice web site, but I had to do too much navigation to find the score in last night's game (which I obviously missed). Should have had a headline with last night's score right at the top of page. Only found score after going towards bottom of page and finding linked stories to 5-4 shootout. Otherwise, well done.

#2 Chicago Bears vs #20 Buffalo Bills
SouthernMan replied to Bills#23Iowa's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So I miss the bus. big deal. It's October and there's probably 3 feet of snow about to arrive. I'll just grab the back bumper and pogey to the next stop. And I have no idea what your first sentence means. Is it you or should I be looking for the short bus and my hockey helmet? BTW - Twin Fair would still be in business if they could have sold the Flowbee! Here's a typical Buffalo Chick getting a haircut (see link) http://www.flowbee.com/images/webmombot2flat%20copy.jpg
