How about this new nickname for Roscoe Parrish
SouthernMan replied to elegantelliotoffen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rearrange SPIRO AGNEW and get "Grow a Penis". Also a dumb nickname. Somebody's got a lot of time on their hands. -

Trent Edwards in the Hall of Fame?

Whoa....take it slow. Can we start with Isotoner glove commercials and work our way up from there? -
Nice to know I'm not the only one who finds the pumped-up pa system ads and whatnot annoying. I sat in the second row of the upper deck for the season opener (around the 20 yd line) and I was couldn't believe how loud they blast that p.a. system. It's non-stop during every stoppage in play! And lord knows, there's enough of those in the course of most NFL games. It may have been worse because our seats were in the direct line of speakers, but my god, it was almost unbearable. For a good portion of the game, I was unable to converse with my party due to the rock concert level of volume eminating from the loudspeakers. As much as I love the stadium gameday experience, it's one more reason to not go to games for many people.

Historical Game of the Week - Bye Week
SouthernMan replied to KRC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My grandfather was born only 2 weeks after the Syracuse game. He later played halfback for Navy. Geez, the McKinley assasination was still 9 years in the future. Sometimes it's hard to imagine people even existed that long ago. -
Just "won" an authentic throwback Whitner jersey
SouthernMan replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have a vintage #20 "away" replica white jersey from 4 years ago. Unfortunately, it has "HENRY" on the back. I'm trying to figure out a way to get the letters W, H, & I, remove the "Y", and rearrange the HENR with the WH&I so I can spell WHITNER. My other choice is to just get a jersey with the name label that says "ANY NAME", like you see in the JC Penny Catalogues. I got it figured out......this free agency thing is a scam to sell overpriced jerseys! -
Well, we're 4 and 0. So my question is
SouthernMan replied to lets_go_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Are you kidding? Russert has already planted one of those "Home of a Bills Fan"signs at the foot of the pearly gates and JC has replaced his crown of thorns with one of those stupid plastic Chicken Wing head gear things. Oh, it's a done deal. The fix is in. I can just see Russert's impish little grin now. -
Bills Prediction to be in Superbowl
SouthernMan replied to SouthernMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For anyone who doesn't know the "double rainbow" thing.... On the day of Russert's service in Buffalo, there was a nice rainstorm in WNY, followed by a huge double rainbow - one over the other. One of my niece's friends took a beautiful picture of it. The following day was the big memorial in Washington DC, with all the press, family, Luke, colleagues, Springsteen remote, etc. A truly beautiful sendoff by those who knew him. Again - a rainy day. As the service was ending, another huge glorious double rainbow was seen from outside the auditorium and shown on the broadcast by MSNBC. It seemed somewhat symbolic of the father-son relationship that Tim Russert had wrote about in his book Big Russ and Me. Could also be interpreted as the soul of the man who left his hometown for the bigger stage in Washington - rainbows symbolizing his never forgotten Buffalo roots and his love of the political arena in Washington, the pulse of America. It's nice to think his spirit had a hand in that imagry and that he might be guiding his beloved Bills to the other promised land. If the Bills actually did win against the Giants in the Tampa superbowl, it would be an incredible story that would no doubt be tied in with the memory of Tim Russert. It could very well serve as a backdrop to a "Remember The Titans" kind of movie. I could almost see the first seen: Jim Kelly getting the phone call that the Bills drafted him and then weeping and jolting for the rival USFL. The ending: The 2008 Bills raising the Lombardi trophy in victory. Of course, the movie would revolve around Tim Russert. For those of you getting freaked out by superbowl talk, and are warning to "take on game at a time" or "let's get in the playoffs first" - I say, "Why?" Dream big. It's been a lot of years since we could realistically have this conversation. As fans, we don't have to take it "one game at a time". Hell, I can take it a decade at a time if I want. I'm a fan, nothing more. We observe, discuss, be entertained, dream, speculate, imagine - that's what we do. Do you buy a lottery ticket and think, "I'll probably rip this up without winning anything"? Usually you take a minute or so to dream about what the winnings could mean. Yeah, I'm thinking superbowl. Premature? Maybe. So what? I'm not playing the frigging game! And anyway, any player who tells you he's not thinking superbowl when training camp starts in a liar. Isn't that what they play for? Isn't that the goal? -
I was listening to Fox Sports and one of the guys predicted it would be a rematch of the Bills and Giants in the superbowl. Don't know if he was sincere or just thought it would be cool. Ok, so everyone has an opinion, but how great a story if the Bills, after the untimely passing of Buffalo's favoritte son and ultimate Bills fan, Tim Russert, makes it back, to Tampa, against the Giants. And oh yeah... they announced today that Russert friend and musical idol, Bruce Springsteen, is doing the halftime show. Is it in the cards? How about a happy ending this time? If the Bills win in Tampa and we see double rainbows after the game, I KNOW there's a hereafter.

The Bills are putting themselves in a bad position

Was this an assignment in your special ed. class? This has to be one of the all-time stupidest posts. First tie breaker for playoff seeding: number of wins. End of discussion. -
Why does Solomon Wolcots have a job?
SouthernMan replied to todd's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've changed my view of Solomon. I used to get hung up on his pronunciation of certain words, but if you examine the content, he's actually pretty darn good at analyzing and explaining the game. It's his pronunciation of our beloved "Bills" thats drives me nuts. Somehow he manages to make it a 2 syllable word without any L's. Bee-oohs. Ugghhhh! Agree with others here...it could be worse. Be careful what you wish for. -
Thoughts on James Hardy's play today.
SouthernMan replied to clownments22's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
100% agreement on all counts. We need a #2 with more tenacity. Hardy is too busy playing pat-a-cake with the defenders to concentrate on the ball. He needs to grab that pigskin like he's entitled to it. If not for his high draft position, we'd be booing him off the field. I'm starting to wish for the days of Peerless as our #2. 4-0 is great, but I agree that unless Hardy or someone else steps up, the passing game will suffer as the season goes on. He may turn out fine given enough time, but we need production now. Moulds wasn't tearing up the league his first couple of seasons either. The Bills are poised to make a playoff run and this on the job training with Hardy could hold them back. This isn't a personal attack on Hardy and I recognize that playing WR at the pro level takes time for some, but I wish we had that solid #2 for this season. I'd still like to see Steve Johnson get some playing time and see what he can do. He may show a greater desire to catch the ball. One thing for sure.....If Evans goes down, we're in a whole lot of trouble. -
I think it really comes down to this: how close are you to the bride & groom? If you're all close friends who couple up and will be socially engaged in coming years, you need to be there. On the other hand, if these people are some infrequent aquaintances - maybe your wife works with he bride and you barely know them, opt out. If she's in the wedding, she'll be escorted by her male counterpart during the ceremony. She'll be sitting at he head table with the wedding party. Depending upon how well you know these people, you maybe relegated to a table in the back with Aunt Mllie and her farting husband. Some fun. What times are the wedding/reception? Can you make an effort and still catch the game? i.e. - go for the ceremony but skip the reception. Or, show up around 7:30 after the game's over and give your wife a couple of dances and a ride home. You might even get lucky after she sees you in your Sunday best. Of course, you'll have your Bills jersey on under the shirt and jacket.

$100.00 REWARD and a free ticket To Bills game
SouthernMan replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The goalposts didn't come down for that Rams game December 7, 1980. Security was on the field and they had greased the goalposts. At about the same time the Bills were doing their chorus line act, an a s shole named Mark Chapman was in NY City stalking ex-Beatle John Lennon, whom he thoughtlessly gunned down 30 hours later. Crazy times. -
$100.00 REWARD and a free ticket To Bills game
SouthernMan replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I went down to the field. It was bedlam. You'd have thought we won the superbowl. At least one of the goalposts, or part of one anyway, got passed from the field, up the stands to Ralph's private box. I don't know if they thought Ralph was gonna tie it to the bumper of his Taurus and drive it back to Detroit, or what, but it was a surreal scene. BTW - those teams from the Chuck Knox era were some of the most fun teams to watch. Great grouping of young talented misfits and aging castoffs like Isiah Robertson, Conrad Dobler, Smerlas, Haslett, Butler, Ferguson, Cribbs. Great O line with Devlin, Jones, Grant, Dobler, etc. Unfortunately, age, injuries, and the strike shortened 1982 season combined to form the perfect storm that would end any hope of a long playoiff run in the early 80's. Ferguson, McKenzie, Dobler, Villapiano, Piccone, and Robertson were at the end of their careers, and LB Shane Nelson and Safety Jeff Nixon soon had promising career shortend by injuries. Cribbs wanted more money and eventually bolted for the WFL. Knox was at loggerheads with douchbag tightwad GM Stew Barber, and left the team in the hands of Kay Stephenson. Kay was left with a pile of shiite, but still managed to pull out few good wins. Eventually, he and Ferguson were run out of town by disheartened fans. The good side is that a few good drafts in the following years spawned the Superbowl Bills. But man, those were some fun teams to watch. Went to a lot of the games. Was at the Rams game in December (1979?) when the crowd - believe it or not - wouldn't leave - they wanted an encore! It was a dark December London fog type of afternoon, and what trace of sun was behind the couds was quickkly disappearing. Smerlas, Haslett, and about 8-10 of the Bills crazies came bzack out of the tunnel with half their uniform (tee shirts and uniform pants) and did a Radio City style chorus line kick thing in the endzone. It was nuts. The crowd went wild. Great memories. The 90s Bills were awesome, but those Chuck Knox teams were insane. Good luck Jeff. BTW - for anyone who missed it, 59 year old Lou Piccone sang he National Anthem at the Bills Seahawks 2008 sason opener. Good job Lou. Don't quit yer day job. -
Well Peter King picks the Rams...
SouthernMan replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We won in KC in 2000. Rob Johnson's big game. Maybe we could sign him to a one day contract for that contest. The Chiefs suck. It's not as if the magic of Arrowhead Stadium gives them a home record of 8-0 every year. We'll crush 'em. -
$100.00 REWARD and a free ticket To Bills game
SouthernMan replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, since home VCRs were still a couple of years away from common usage, there's probably not many game tapes around from casual fans. The best bet may be to contact NBC, who broadcast the game. Jeff was a surprise DB talent who emerged as a real ball hawk. Unfortunately, his career was cut short by a blown out knee (if my memory serve me correctly). BTW - I was at that game ! -
Ralph & Marv getting the last laughs
SouthernMan replied to VJ91's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Clarification: Golden Boys alludes to TV sitcom about aging Florida retirees in Golden Girls. The Sunshine Boys was a 1975 movie with old-timers George Burns and Walter Matthau where they played aging ex-Vaudevillians reuniting for a TV show. -
The Spooky Correlation between
SouthernMan replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Stupid argument by anyone trying to use it. The Bills clobbered everyone in the AFC from 1988-1993. Sure they got beat occasionally, but more often than not, they won. As far as the NFC, outside of the Superbowls, the Bills OWNED the NFC in regular season play. I'm not taking the time to look it up, but the record was incredible. There were even a couple of games they gave away, playing all reserves, since they had already clinched home field. Washington and/or Detroit come to mind as meaningless season finale games they may have lost. -
Who will be pursue as our backup QB
SouthernMan replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gotta agree. Nothing wrong with homegrown. He knows the guys, the guys know him. Seeing him on the sideline with Trent, he seems to have his head in the game and is ready if the bell rings. He looked pretty solid in preseason. Can't think of any reason some journeyman "name" QB should have the edge. Hamden may be the answer. Maybe they'll stick with the homegrown philosophy that's working so well and draft another QB in '09 to be the # 3. -
Yer right, I didn't watch it. I dreamed the whole game the night before so I wouldn't have to waste a Sunday afternoon. Fortunately, I TiVo'd the dream and skipped all the parts where I was flying or couldn't scream. Anyway, all I was suggesting was that perhaps Edwards' style is better suited to a faster pace, rather than taking their good old time in the huddle and shuffling up to the line. I always thought Kelly's natural rhythm fit a faster pace and I think Edwards may fit the same mold. I wouldn't mind seeing something more of a fast break type of offense - not necessarily no-huddle, but faster.
