Yeah but WM thinks he is more like Barry and wants to shake and bake and make the big play instead of running with a purpose. If WM hit the hole and ran hard every play, he'd be a much better back!

It's similar to a discussion I had with a co-worker who is a big Dorsett fan and how he was so much faster than everbody on the field and no one could catch him and that there is no one playing today as fast and blah, blah, blah. I made a point that in today's NFL most of the team is as fast as Dorsett was and the reason he look so fast was that the other players were just slow. It's not like he ran a 3.5! At that time the fastest athletes were RB; now there are LB's who are just as fast as most RB's. I won't even mention the speed of today's DB's. It's like salaries: what was considered highly paid over the top 20 years ago is almost average today. The same with a fast player back in those days.

I was thinking the same thing! Now that spin move on the goal line for a TD was a no-brainer; maybe the one where he put his hand down and regain his balance after C. Bennet slung him but the rest were kind of questinable regarding the Bills
-
As I said before: HATER! The Lions best running plays were DRAW plays to Barry. When Barry seen a whole he exploded through it and was on to the next level making defenders look silly. While he wouldn't be as effective following a FB through a specific gap, if you put him a system such as the Colts or Bronco's where they strecth out defnders and allowed Barry to find a crease he would have been unstoppable! The season in which his blocking was better that allowed him to get to the 2nd level, all he did was gain 2000 yards!
-
Yeah whatever; HATER! Give him half the line Emmit had then he would have really been untouchable. I don't know why he wasn't used on screen play at least 5 times a game.

Lee evans being held in check was a good thing

My biggest gripe as I have said before was that in the second half was that he wasn't given a chance to win or lose the game. He only attempted 3 passes after we were stopped on 4th down and when he did complete a pass it was called back. The D couldn't get the ball back and when they did they either tried unsuccessful run plays or the OL allow the D to penetrate too easily and give up sacks JP couldn't avoid. Well game coverage sucks in general based on the way they show highlights and focus on either gloating on or bashing individual players. If all you watched were the highlights and seen the final score you'd think that we lost the game on the final play because of a safety and let the JP bashing began. If the ticky tack block in the back on Nate wasn't call as well as the unecessary stoppage of play then the talk would have been that the Pats, Brady self destruct and miss Branch. Then maybe after 2-3 weeks of Whitner making plays he and Levy might some recognition on being the 8th pick. But JP, like the Bills, until we win we will get no respect from the media and the no-Bills nations as will always be viewed as losers; no matter how close the final score is. -
I wish we had kept Big Sam; (Pat as well but he was too expensive). Sam wasn't expensive to keep and even though some would say he wouldn't fit our penetrating scheme I disagree for I have seen hime explode of the ball too many times. Even though the other DT such as Anderson as suppose to be lighter and quicker off the ball I have never seen any of them explode of the ball the way big Sam did. In fact that was his biggest complaint in the old system as he too often shot the gap and didn't play his 2 gap responsibilities. Some would say he go tired and didn't show the same burst late in games; which player does? But with the rotating scheme that were are suppose to use I think he would have done just fine. If he was exploding off the line the way we have saw in the past it would take 2 bodies guaranteed to keep him out the backfield. His biggest attribute would be versatile in that he could play both schemes; maybe not at a top Pro Bowl level but better than what we have. Come on admit it, who would you rather have and who do you think would be more effective, Anderson or Adams?

...still waying on my mind. You know the cartoon where the sky is grey and the Bills are losing and suddenly a player breaks lose and scores and the sun comes out and grandma jumps up in the chair and starts dancing only to find out the player step out of bound and the Bills lose a heartbreaker! Just like on Sunday when it seemed like the game was over when the Pats got that safety; I was like yeah the Pats will run out the clock and get a TD and being 9 points down no way we can overcome. Then Whitner gets a pick with nothing but Bills in front and I jump up and like YEAH BABY and then block in the back plus the imaginary step out of bounds. Then I still have alittle life. On 3rd and 2 JP completes the pass to Price and I'm like YES but then BLOCK IN THE BACK! We get sack and punt! Then we rise up stop them on 3rd and short and I'm like GO BILLS; they kick the FG and JP can get a chance to leads us on to victory. Then the Pats get 6 on 4th and 2 and run out the clock and now instead of being able to feel happy about us at least competeing against a team we were 9 points underdogs to all I have to hear from opposing fans, commentators and PRETENDING TO BE BILLS FANS now is that the same old Bills, Bills suck, their not that good anyway, JP suck, and blah, blah, blah. Why does the Bills make it so hard for their TRUE FANS? Almost everytime there is a game that shouldn't be close we always find a way to let a team back in the game! And if we do manage to win then the focus is more on how that team lost than the Bills winning. I know there are plenty that share this feeling of BUFFALO BLUES!

Not this week. But it doesn't matter who is commentating. If all the highlights and focus of a game analysis is one a specific individual then it really isn't game analysis it is then either glorifyin or villifying an individual. I turned the channel after I noticed this trend. I mean Duece Mccalister rushed for 90 yards but all ESPN showed was every touch Bush had; the same with TO. I mean all they seemed to show of the Green Bay game was all the mishaps that Favre had. I expect and can live with such coverage from Sportscenter highlights but not game analysis from NFL Prime Time. This type of coverage doesn't let one know who played good or bad and it makes it seems as if a player or team dominated and was unstoppable or only made negative plays. That is why the Bills, JP in particular get such a bad rap for until they win consistenly, only their negative plays will get shown. If all you did was watch the highlights you'd think JP stunk it up, was constanly getting sack, and took a stupid safety that ended the game.
-
No the ESPN version was garbage as Jaworski, Ditka, and Scott did the commentating and the highlights focused on individual players instead of plays that mattered. For instance, they didn't show not one positive play the Jags made - unless you count all those clips of Bledsoe throwing picks which obviously wasn't shown to give the Jags any credit. They showed every catch TO made though!
-
Biggest 2 points some seem to overlook. Its not as if JP got flustered or began making errant throws or bad mistakes he just wasn't given the chance to win or lose the game. For 2 straight series after the 4th and 1, we either played conservative, running for no gains and not playing aggressive or had bad field position and he got a safety. The next time he got the ball he completes it for 1st down but it gets called back for a clip. Then he never got another chance as the D couldn't get the ball back. IF our run D played better it was an easy win. IF we convert and go up 24-7 the game is over as our pass rush and pass coverage would have been too much for the Pats to handle.
-
...you didn't miss much. They seem to focus more on one player than the actual gameplay. I mean they showed every catch TO made, every tuch Bush had, and every hit and mistake Brett Favre made.
-
While I shouldn't fault him for getting stopped or be stupid enough to call for the A-train to start, he did dance a little too much for my liking on runs in the 2nd half that could have been for no gains instead of 2 yard losses if he had attacked the LOS instead of skipping up there.
-
I remeber that ludacrous statement as well as the one with the Bills up 17-7 he made sure he pointed out that this week one performance doesn't indicate how a good a team is. If the Pats were up 17-7 and dominating like we were he'd be all on their you know what!
-
Also he should have been given more opportunities to win the game. After we held the ball for 5 minutes and get stopped on 4th down, the Pats take a long 93 yard drive and hold the ball. Then we got conservative on 1st down and lost our aggressiveness. Then the Pats take another long drive and settle for a FG. We get the ball back and a phantom penalty pushed us back near our end zone, it didn't give him much of a chance. Some JP bashers tried hard to point him out but the only mistake he made was taking the safety but even then it wasn't like he held the ball too long and took a coverage sack. Somebody blew their job and didn't give him a fighting chance. Bottom line our team didn't give him a chance to win the game as the D couldn't get Pats off the field which allow us to lose our rhythm. And when they did with the int a cheap penalty negated a first down completion to Price. At the end of the game when we stopped them on 3rd and 1 I was like great; if the Pats kick a FG it gives JP a chance to win or lose the game. And based on the struggles the Pats had matching up against our spread offense I was thinking win. But then the D gives up 6 yards on 4th and 2; 3 kneel down GAME OVER! With WM dancing to line in the 2nd half losing yardage combined with an OL that while they protected good most of the game began to breakdown when JP needed them the most. That combined with playcalling that became too conservative on a few drives and a few cheap penalties, they didn't really allow him to try and win the game. It wasn't like he fluttered and started to miss open receivers or make bad decisions. I'm not saying that he would have pulled a John Elway; he might have pulled a Culpepper or Bledsoe act like this past weekend. But I at least wanted to see him get the chance to make plays where legends are born.

One game and some of you are calling
bluv replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I haven't in the past been a WM basher but yesterday he did a little too much dancing; especially in the 2nd half. Maybe it was because of his ankle injury; who knows. But the way he was running in the second half combined with the effectiveness A-Trai had, I would have given him more carries in the 2nd half. Now I'm not stupid as some to say stert A-Train after ONE GAME but in the game yesterday, WM should have been sat down for dancing to the hole. Really a little competition makes the RB run harder. Noticed Dillion had a little more zip afer being pushed by Maroney. That is why we should have imitated them and gave A-Train more than 3 carries and establish more of a one-two punch. On another topic, there should have been a few playactions and rollouts called as well, especially when were effective running the ball and with the Pats overloading the run in the 2nd half. -
A Few Quick Thoughts About The Game...
bluv replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most of the day JP had ample time to throw. If it wasn't for safe playcalling on 2-3 straight series after they missed that 4th and 1, if the Bills had stayed aggressive I think JP could have done more damage as the Pats had a hard time matching up and really didn't apply much pressure without blitzing. Those 2-3 drives allowed the Pats to keep the ball and us to lose our rhythm. But penalities and runs for loses put us in unfavorable down and distances. The blocking, while not flawless was much better than last year. While some expect the team to play flawlessly in all aspects, the only aspect of the game that should get a failing grade is run D for if we had held the Pats running game in check we win easily as we had them on the ropes but let them off. -
A Few Quick Thoughts About The Game...
bluv replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought the OL for the most part did a fine job. Now Colvin did get by Gandy a few times and Peters once but overall JP had ample time to throw the ball. If they had went to the shotgun more in the second half on key downs I think JP would have been more effective as the running game was getting shutdown on 1st down and the playcalling became timid, stop attacking and put the D right back on the field. There should have been a little more short passes or screens thrown on 1st down. Another note for JP: he might didn't win the game for us but he didn't lose it like Culpepper and Bledsoe did. -
My words exactly. Hopefully once they become comfortable we could have a fine tandem at safety.

A Few Quick Thoughts About The Game...
bluv replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll agree. I was hoping he could lead us on a game winning drive, the type where legends are born but he wasn't given much of a chance as our 1st down production was horrible in the 2nd half and penalties caused us a few bad yards and distances and a 1st down as well. The playcalling got timid and played into the Patriots strengths and stopped attacking the secondary or spreading the field on early downs. McGahee dancing didn't help. And speaking of WM, he didn't attack the LOS at all the whole game. He had a few nice runs but he danced too much instead of imposing his will on the D; especially on the 4th down play as if he gotten a full head of steam in the crease that he had he could have gotten 1 yard. Instead he danced around trying to get a bigger play than looking for 1 yard. -
He ran like that most of the game; especially in the 2nd half.
-
McGahee runs better out of singleback sets anyway as he tippy toes when he has to run behind a FB into a designated hole because unless it is huge we will dance into the LOS into of hit it with authority. And anybody who picks on JP come on; with all those 2nd and 12 and 13 how can you establish anything? When he does get a 1st down here come the penalties. I'm optimistic about the Offense as pass blocking was good overall. I'm more concerned with run D than anything else.
-
I'm not saying that he is the next Ronnie Lott or played like it today but anybody who nickpicks on a few plays given up and actually made a play that should have won the game is just looking under a microscope. I can see if he and Koy were giving up big play after play; they held Brady to under 200 yards and under %50 completion and weren't the victims of his 2 TD passes. And as far as those crying about run support they were playing 2 deep coverage and the front 7 didn't stop the run.
-
Who said they played great? Some just said they played OK for their first action and then some of you guys make it seem like they have to play flawless. If we had won that game no one would even mention our few bad secondary plays. Now the run D; that would still be questioned.
-
He's not under the same microscope some of our favorite whipping boys are in that we noticed every mishap.
