Last year Levy came in and basically said we will become a Tampa style D that emphasizes faster quicker players. So thru free agency and the draft we went out and got players to fit the scheme. While we are not the best in the league, at least we have something to build off and improve on for next year. We need the same on offense. Either we need to be a West coast offense, singleback, zone blocking;etc. We need to come up with an offensive identity so that we can have something to build upon. Then we can bring in the type of players that are going to fit that style. Right now we have no identity, no direction, or nothing to build upon. The only threat we have is Evans and week in and week out defenses find out a way to limit his catches. At least if we run our current scheme, at least move Lee around so that defenses have a harder time containing him and use him like the Panthers use Steve Smith. He should definitely be used as a decoy a lot more and given the chance to gain yards after the catch. We want to be a power running team but then we can run the ball in key situations. We don't make defenses pay for concentrating and bringing defenders up to stop the run. There is never any chemistry on offense except maybe on the 1st 2-3 drives of games. Currently we have small quick WR but we don't put them in position to take advantage of that. That is why I say next year we need to come up with an offensive philosophy and bring in new players that will fit that mode. I know some will say change the QB but drafting one is stupid. If we can bring in a veteran Qb for cheap; maybe. But if we are going to stick with JP we need an offensive identity. I also would love to see him have some type of authority to call an audible of some type.

I don't think accuracy has been an issue for JP this year. He hasn't missed many open receivers once he has had time to set his feet and make up his mind to throw the ball. A lot of his haters are too blind $ fail to see that. His biggest issue is the offensive team as a whole: no identity or focus. There is no chemistry whatsoever. I mean even the game against the Jets where both JP and WM had big stat days but we lost, we never had any chemistry in that game just hit or miss. In the beginning of games where plays are scripted Fairchild does a decent job. He can call a few good plays but he is not a good strategist or putting his playmaker in position to make plays. For instance, since defenses focus on taking Evans out the game, he should be used more as a decoy. The fact that teams pack 7 or more defenders at the line of scrimmage on early downs knowing our percentages to run, we should make teams pay for that more and call more playactions. I hate to keep making up excuses for JP but what more can he do when he is constantly left to bail us out on 3rd down. And on top of that 60% of those attempts a missed blocking assignment allows a defender to run free.
-
Exactly; Mathis was UNTOUCHED on that sacked that should have caused a fumble and on his 1st he got suck a good jump he beat Pennington out his stance. And WTF; Royal blocking Freeney on a key 3rd down. He should be out running a pass pattern!
-
This offensive gameplan was too conservative. My biggest issue is that when they want to attack the middle of the field they can. Look at the beginning or in the 4th quarter. But for most of the game they don't. Really if you shut down our running game, cover Evans, and take away our sideline passes you take away 95% of our playcalling.
-
And like I said earlier a moral victory but not a W! This team played not to lose rather than to win. Some can say we lost by 1 point but we got a few lucky bounces. I mean when you attempt only 15 passes how do you expect to win? I know those who want to bash JP will continue to jump on him but what can he do besides run the plays that are called? I mean the coaching staff waste 2 TO's and ends up with a blocking scheme that matches Freeney against Royal on a crucial play. I mean one week it's dropping Schoebel into pass coverage on a key 3rd down and the next...I'm just lost for words!
-
The 2 wasted TO's will come back and haunt us!
-
Or playcallers!
-
Lindell and Moorman are the only players in this organization I have confidence in!
-
But I don't want a moral victory I want to see a W and without a few lucky bounces there is no way we win this game with such conservative playcalling. Wheter you believe JP sucks or not, only attempting 10 passes will not keep the D honest!
-
What difference would he make; any QB can hand the ball off! Look there isn't any benefit of playing KH for he can't make any throw that JP can't. JP needs to be given an opportunity to win the game. And I don't know where Evans and Parrish are for they are best playmakers and haven't been put in positions to make plays. I mean a screen to Price; please!
-
I should ignore you and KH arm completely but anway; he has shown that he can complete those passes when called upon but as games go on mysteriously we get away from attacking the middle. Pretty much if you stop the run, take away Evans and guard the sideline passes then you take away %95 of the Bills offense
-
Exactly and just like every other game once those first few scripted plays are over the playcalling becomes predictable and questionable.
-
If I were a free agent offensive player there is no way I come to Buffalo for their stock would die right here as we have no offensive identity whatsoever!
-
Exactly! What are we playing for moral vivtories? This is timid playcalling! Each and every game we start with some success mixing the run with short pass and then the playcalling goes into a funk after the 1st 15 scripted plays are finished. There are no adjustments made whatsoever. This game instead of putting JP to be a sitting duck on 3rd down we just keep running draw plays! Unless we get more lucky bounces or get a pair to try to make plays happen we will just have a moral victory instead of a W!
-
This playcalling is pathetic! I know the Colts run D is weak but you can at least attempt to pass on 1st down! Playaction; bootleg something!

The best draft strategy is to pick the best player available unless it is a QB and you already have a young one who is still developing. Other than QB and OL, any other position can have multiple players that can be subsititued and swapped out. O-Line seems to be a definite need but it is a gamble as well. That's why I'm at least hoping Peters and Gandy can be a solid combo for the next 2-3 years (that's if we can re-sign Gandy cheap!). I also hope Pennington can be a steal as well for then we can focus in the draft on getting replacements for Clemens and Fletcher or hopefully a big fast WR (hopefully Calvin Johnson!) If you draft an O-lineman 1st round he has to come in and pay dividends and be a starter from day one. If he doesn't then he will be a bust and not worth the money. Other positions such as WR, RB, DL,DB etc can be eased in and given time to develop.
-
And picking 1st round offensive or defensive lineman isn't a guarantee either (ex M. Wiliams) . I thnk Calvin Johnson from GA Tech would look good in a Bills uniform but he will be just as much a crapshoot as any other player or position. You don't draft strictly by need!

My biggest gripe is that JP is playing on a team that has not been to the playoffs since 98 and has no proven system or players on offense at any position, including himself. The only proven player we had was Moulds and he was clearly proven to be on the decline. WM is about the closest to being a proven player that we have and he is proven to be inconsistent. This year Evans may have proven he can be a solid WR but coming into this year he was an unknown as a #1 WR and he isn't exactlt lighting it up this year. No Pro Bowlers or proven players whatsoever at OL and TE. I mean Manning has Tiki in the backfield, a Pro Bowl TE, and proven receivers. Rivers sat on the bench for 2 years on a playoff team with a sytem in place and top 3 proven players at their postion in LT and Gates. Ben steps into a team with a solid running game, proven veteran WR in Ward and a solid defense that can just carry him along to hide his shortcomings. I hate to sound like one of those guys making up all these excuses for JP but anyone can see that he step into a worse situation than those guys and that is the main reason why he is off to a slow start. Take Romo; he has looked good his first 2 games for he has sat on the bench 4 years in the same system and steps in and plays with proven Pro Bowl caliber WR and TE's. Plus his coaching staff modified their playcalling to fit his strengths. If we had picked up Romo he would be looking just as bad as JP for he would be a sitting duck behind so-so talent and an offensive coaching staff that wouldn't allow but him in the best position to suceed but instead leave him face down!

All the negative articles from the Media
bluv replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The media is just doing it's job: over hyping about anything to create a story to sell! And some are stupid enough to fall for anything; not being able to seperate fiction from fact! -
If a WR is that wide open and being that he was getting hit as he was throwing the ball, I'm glad that he didn't try to throw the perfect pass and hit Evans in stride. When your that wide open just try to hurry up and get it there! If he had overthrown Evans even by a hair or threw it out the end zone he'd really be murdered!
-
Exactly for that's how they sell stories as they over hype and over react to keep drama going! And some fans get too caught up in what this reporter said or that. Perfect example: Mike Vick. He had 2 great games and a lot of his promoters came and out and said he has arrived and this is what we knew he could do all along. He has a bad game against the Lions now his naysayers start to say see it's the same old Vick and the past 2 games are an aberation! Same with Favre; he has bad game to start season against the Bears and all the he should retire comments by the media comes out. He plays well for a brief stretch against weak teams and protects the ball he is being hailed agin. Now after returning to his turnover prone days Sunday now it is why is Brett embarrassing himself out there. If I were a player, I would give a damn what a fan or sportswriter says about me for most are wishy washy to beign with!
-
I noticed that and I'm suprised more didn't comment on that. JP in 3 seasons has started 16 games spread over 2 seasons and up to this date while he has improved has shown nothing to make one think he will be anything special (JP I got your back though!). JP shouldn't be included in that discussion for like I've said he hasn't produced on the field and unlike Ben and Eli he hasn't had enough starts to fully evaluate his talent. In comparison to Rivers, he has sat for 2 years on a playof team with great talent around him and has produced dividends immediately. While Esasion wasn't particularly throwing jabs at JP, he currently just doesn't belong in that discussion. On the contrary if JP finishes the season strong and he plays great next year, these same media guys will start to kiss up and bring out positive points about JP pre-draft in that he was the most athletic and had the strongest arm and the fastest legs among the top 4 QB's in his draft class and kiss, kiss,KISSS!

The Bills o-line doesn't give J-Lo enough time?
bluv replied to CoachChuckDickerson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's a point I have been trying to make all year about a lot of positions. No team has a Pro Bowler at every position and most of the good players that they do have have flaws. I have less patience with the guys who are paid to produce but who don't and are fully healthy. Like Nate Clemens; he is not a bad players by any means but for his play there is no way he should be the highest paid player on this team as for most games he is not a game changer. Is he a bad player; not by any means. Even take a player like Gandy who we had treated like he was the worst LT in the league; he had gave up what 4-5 sacks all year and 3.5 in ONE game. I mean while he is far from a elite, there are better options out there and Peters may be a better option on this team at LT he was far from being the garbage LT he was made out to be. He was a stopgap player there for one and last year exceeded most expectations as most really wanted him to flop last year so that they could throw one more shot at Donahoe. Plus he was a cheap option and we got more than our money worth for him and after watching him play one game at his natural position he looked pretty good. The Raiders would look at him as an upgrade! Now CV is a different story as he is paid much more and expected to produce and he is definitely not getting the job done in the pass or running game and he should be villified way more than Gandy ever was! -
JP Naysayers tell me his problems vs. GB
bluv replied to AnthonyF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
His accuracy is not a problem; especially when he is given time to set his feet and he makes up his mind to throw to an open receiver. It wasn't a problem yesterday or hasn't been an issue so far this year. There have been plenty of times so far this year he has held onto the ball and locked onto a receiver, yesterday there was only one or maybe 2 instances where he held the ball too long. Frankly yesterday there was too much pressure allowed up the middle so he didn't have time to throw or room to step up in the pocket and that did result in a few short throws. That combined with 2 key drops made it look all the worse. -
The only positive going for JP that should give us
bluv replied to bluv's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is why I'm more patent with JP for their is no way you can single him out solely for our poor offensive performance. I mean blocking has been inconsistent for the 1st 8 games (pass blocking was horrible yesterday) and we have no offensive chemistry or identity to speak off. I can see complaints last year as he constantly missed wide open receivers when he had time in the pocket; he hasn't as much this year. I can see if he had more coverage sacks where he held the ball for 6-7 plus seconds. Most of his probelms seem to be reading dfenses and more plays called that require quick setups and release. Until we see better output around him we can't be quick to label him a bust yet. You can't expect greatness from a young QB and say just because Tom Brady or Peyton Manning could produce with this team we should expect the same from JP.
