Excellent point. Our lack of size at LB/nickel and safety means our DT’s have to keep the O-Line from getting to the 2nd level as much or more than the O-Line has to worry about our DT’s penetrating. It’s not a defensive philosophy that is gonna win you a championship.

Cook deserves a raise. Running backs have a short shelf life. Give him a 2 year $25m deal. It shows good faith and lets him potentially cash it again before he’s too old in running back terms.

I kind of agree. McDermott is a good leader and motivator, but his defensive philosophy of small undersized players playing a conservative reactive defense is never gonna get you a Super Bowl.

For a league that prints money, this is an extremely small time production.

Beane gets Mcdermott pretty much exactly what he wants on defense within the confines of the cap. We spent like crazy on the defense when Josh was still on his rookie deal. And those defenses still crumbled and provided no resistance when it counted. Back then, it was Daboll’s fault because the offense didn’t run the ball enough and control the clock for the defense. The real problem is McDermott prefers undersized players who can be in the right spot consistently instead of more physical players who can lock their man up or whoop the guy trying to block them. That philosophy works over a 16/17 game regular season especially when you have an elite offense. It has not worked in the playoffs against the best teams.

Not even sure we need studs on D, just more violence and nastiness. That said, I’d love a guy like Simmons from Tennessee because he’s a stud and plays with an edge. Our offense plays with way more violence than our defense does. We need some Mack Hollins’s on defense. It’s also why I love Dorian. I’ll live with some of his coverage mistakes because he plays with an edge and brings the wood when he hits you.

This is why I think they gotta go and get a premier player on defense if who nothing else brings a different vibe and belief that it’s gonna be different this year because we got him.

Giants aren’t trading Lawrence. He’s their best player and those guys need to win now. Simmons is interesting. That’s a rebuild, his contract is tradable, and this defense desperately needs a guy with an edge. He’s kind of a young Ndamkong Suh just not as dirty.

This. We’ve already given McDermott everything he wanted on defense the past 8 years. Free agent signings, high draft picks… he has yet to produce a defense that doesn’t fold in the playoffs. The lack of resistance in the playoff losses is completely damning. Nothing will change until the defensive philosophy/scheme changes. Undersized players playing soft conservative schemes will never win you a championship.

For the past 5 years that we’ve won the division and been a title contender, the defense has folded like a cheap suit against the chiefs 4 times, Bengals once and 2nd half against the Ravens, providing almost no resistance in those 5 and a half games. That suggests it’s a scheme problem since most/all the players have turned over during those 5 years.

That was a huge kick by Bass in the first quarter. We were on the verge of getting blown out. Good kickers make the kicks their teams absolutely need and that was a huge kick. Kudos to him. It’s hard for kickers to get it back once they’ve lost it.

Those 2 drops aren’t even close to comparable. I’d give Andrew’s catch a 98% probability another NFL tight end catches that pass. I’d give Kincaids a 20-25% success rate from an NFL Tight End.

I wouldn’t call it a lob, more like a wounded duck that was spinning to the left like a slider in baseball. Kincaid was the only one who correctly adjusted to the ball that was curving to his right. It would have been a great catch but still one he probably expects himself to make. But in no way was that an easy catch.

Yep. We took our cap medicine this year and don’t have any bad contracts on books once Miller is cut. Do we double down on McDermotts conservative defensive philosophy with undersized players? We’re gonna have some money to spend on free agents in addition to taking some high draft picks on that side of ball. I think it’s time to start building a more aggressive defense with corners and safeties that can play man and add some more pass rushers in the D-Line.

Get better cover guys and better pass rushers and play a more gambling aggressive style defense. I’ve seen enough of the conservative reactive defense the last 5 years that provides zero resistance to Burrow, Mahomes and even lamar in the playoffs.

We’re in decent cap shape. Miller is the only bad contract still on the books. Most of the starters are signed to fair deals. Give Cook a raise. I’m not signing anybody else before I have to including benford, shakir, and rousseau.

Hire Spagnola as head coach. Weakens the Chiefs and our defense would improve.

Please. Defenses always suffer some injuries especially soft undersized ones. It’s a garbage scheme when it depends on every single player being healthy or we completely crumble in big games.

The Allen tush push spot was only one i had a major issue with. How do you run across the field so confidently and over rule the other side judge when allen had his back to you and you had no idea where the football was? Can somebody interview that side judge?

The difference in the game was how easily the Chiefs moved the ball on our defense while the Chiefs defense made things more difficult on our offense. We only put the chiefs offense in 3rd or 4th down ten times. Conversely, the Chiefs put our offense in 3rd and 4th down twenty times. If our defense doesn’t get turnovers, we can’t get off the field against Mahomes, Lamar, Burrow. We’ve had a championship caliber offense for the last 3-4 years. This defense has never been championship caliber yet we have a defensive minded head coach. It’s groundhog day.
