Trade up for D'Brickashaw Ferguson
BuffaloRebound replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think the Bills go with an OL in the top 5 because of the Ryan Leaf/Mike Williams syndrome. Too much money tied down to a position where they don't want to make the same mistake. -
Chicago Paper mentions possible replacement for TD
BuffaloRebound replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In the Information over-load age that we live in, it is hilarious and disturbing at the same time how one outlet (Florio no less) writes something that is probably out of thin air and other outlets immediately run with it and start reporting it as well. It is getting to the point where despite their 'freedom of the press' cries, the media needs a regulatory watchdog. The current state of affairs mass produces stupidity in the population. -
If Bills lose the last 4...
BuffaloRebound replied to BuffaloRebound's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In regards to Kiwanuka of BC and Williams of NCST, Williams has 25 pounds on him, and Schobel has showed to be a productive player at LDE. Schobel and Williams on the 2 ends would be nice. Then I'd like to see the Bills trade back into the middle of the 1st round and get a stud DT. On a side note, I think Donahoe's biggest problem as a GM is he acts like he is a portfolio manager at a mutual fund. He only looks for value. That works in the stock market but not in building a football team when you have needs that must be addressed and team chemistry to consider. -
If Bills lose the last 4...

I see GB beating Detroit at home this week. Then they are at Baltimore, home against Chicago(rivalry game), and then they have Seattle in the finale and Seattle could have home field wrapped up. So I see one win amongst those 3. -
they will probably have the #3 overall pick. The only teams I don't see the Bills passing are Houston and San Fran. That last game against the Jets will probably be worth a 5 position swing for each team. The ideal scenario would see the young players getting time and playing well, but still losing. Who do you go with - OT Ferguson or DE Williams?

Let's turn to a positive thing...

I'd really love to see the Bills get 2 stud linemen. Take the best DL or OL available with our top 10 pick. Then use the Travis 3rd rounder to move back up into the 1st round from the 2nd. Mario Williams in the 1st. Then move up and get Wright or Winston or Ngata. -
It seems kind of strange for a guy in the League 8 years, but his arm strength and athleticism seem greatly improved this year. He was always a great QB, but I never remember him having the zip on the ball that he has this year or being able to scramble for 1st downs.

So with next years Top 10 draft choice.....
BuffaloRebound replied to ROCCEO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think he is projected to be a 1st rounder, but I really like this Oshinowo kid, the DT from Stanford. He is playing well against ND. Reminds me of a young Pat Williams. He eats up at least 2 blockers every play and gets an excellent jump on the snap. I'd rather see 2 DL and a LB with the top 3 picks. I think OL are extremely risky picks in the 1st couple rounds. I'd rather see OL addressed in Free Agency. -
Whichever DL can beat Krumrie in thumb wrestling is who we will select. Drafting OL high is too much of a crapshoot. I'd like to see a guy like AJ Hawk in the 1st round and a DT in the 2nd.

I find myself admiring how other GMs have done it
BuffaloRebound replied to nodnarb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Look at the Eagles with McNabb injured and now out. Take Brady off of New England and they are worse than us. Look at the demise of Tennessee and see how it correlates to the deterioration of McNair's skills. The lone exception is perhaps Pittsburgh as they seem to keep winning without any stars. Stud players make plays and allow average players to be good role players because not as much is asked of them. These teams don't fall apart after giving up 1 or 2 touchdowns because they know they are never out of the game. I really believe the talent is basically equal among teams throughout the NFL. The difference is those stars that change the entire persona of their teams. The one player we do have like that has been out since week 2. -

This is a pretty good thread. Count me in the camp that in today's NFL, you need to be lucky when it comes to turning it around. The margin between winning and losing gets smaller every year. How can a team hold KC to 3 points one week then the following week give up 48 to San Diego? Put Carson Palmer or Peyton Manning on this team and everything changes, even the defense. Also, this team is playing without its All-Everything LB and its 2 starting DT's. Add in QB struggles and being without your 2nd and 3rd round picks for much of the season, and it's a wonder this team has won 4 games. I don't have a problem with Donahoe's leadership. I just think that you only get so long to turn it around and time and patience are running thin. -
QB play is piss poor across the NFL. I think it is a combination of defenses being better than they ever have been, NFL teams unwilling to sacrifice seasons to develop QB's, and more and more of the quality QB's getting hurt.

I am all for sending guys like Sam Adams packing. When you are winning, you can put up with players who don't play hard all the time. When you aren't, stuff like that ruins team chemistry. Moulds does complain a lot, but he plays hard all the time so I can live with that. But Adams drives me crazy. Not only does he not play hard all the time, but he is good for at least one offsides penalty a game that extends a drive and leads to points.
-
The only guys with large contracts on this team are Moulds, Williams, and Spikes. Spikes isn't going anywhere. Moulds proved last week he's still an excellent receiver if you can get him the ball. And you probably have to still stick with Mike Williams. Fletcher, Adams, Milloy and Vincent don't make huge money and don't have more than 2 years left on their contracts. You might as well draft their replacements this year, bring them back and cut them only if their replacements are ready. Posey doesn't make big money either. I'd like to see a DT and LB drafted in rounds 1 and 2 this year.

There is never a good time to start playing JP

Mularkey made the right call with Losman. He was getting worse. Every situation is not similar. For every Eli Manning, there's a David Carr or Tim Couch who probably could have benefitted from getting benched. That said, I think it may be time to put Losman back in there. Holcomb made some rookie mistakes down the stretch against NE. Short of Holcomb developing into a first rate Qb or realistic playoff chances, it's time for Losman. I also don't think this team is old at all. The offense is extremely young. On defense, the only old position is safety. Spikes will play for a long time, Crowell will replace Fletcher or Posey, and Adams is gone. The corners, ends, and depth positions are all young. The Bills will most likely have 5 Day 1 draft picks and at least 4 should be spent on a DT, LB, and safety. -
There is a BIG positive for us this game
BuffaloRebound replied to Anon Y. Mous's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If this team has an ounce of pride, it will play balls-out to avoid the very real possibility of being blown out in front of a national audience. I can see this one being like those 12-9 games we played against the Pats in 2001. -
how 'bout that shawn bryson??
BuffaloRebound replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Too bad Bryson was never as fast as Chad Morton. -
3 moves have changed the SD franchise around and you could reasonably argue luck had more to do with them than anything else. SD passed up on Vick and Tomlinson dropped into their hands because they were fresh off the Ryan Leaf debacle (some luck, some good decision-making). Brees ends up the starter last year because Rivers drags his feet on negotiations (Entirely luck). SD signs a former mid-major college basketball player as training camp fodder and he becomes an All-Pro tight end. (mostly luck, but have to give the organization some credit). You could do a similar exercise with Bellichick, New England, Mo Lewis/Drew Bledsoe, and Tom Brady. Buffalo is still waiting for its lucky breaks.
-
I am becoming more and more convinced that the over-riding common theme among successful franchises in NFL recently is luck. Most NFL organizations, the Bills included, are run well. The difference between consistently winning and losing in the NFL is a Tom Brady, Donavan McNabb, or Peyton Manning. Getting those guys on your team requires luck.

Can someone tell me the difference between
BuffaloRebound replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's played about the same. The defense also gave the offense great field position in Game 1 and he hasn't had that since. The defense and special teams aren't playing at the level expected. I'd say JP is playing at the level many thought he would be playing at. -
You still need a passing game that keeps teams honest. The Bills don't have that right now. Every NFL defense can stop the run if you don't have to worry about the pass. Despite his struggles, I still think you have to stick with JP. And if veterans like Moulds B word about it, then send them walking.
-
Because the NFL owes a game to NO after losing a home game.
-
Holcomb is an adequate NFL QB. Losman is not an NFL QB right now.
-
Please. How long are you gonna stick with a guy who averages 70 net passing yards a game? This team is probably 3-1 if Holcomb was the starter from Game 1.
-
Now it's on the defense. NO is pinned in their own end and a 3 and out is a must.
