I thought Ellison looked pretty good on Saturday. He needs to put on some weight but he was flying around the ball. On a side note, does anyone think Vincent is in danger of being cut if Simpson continues to impress the next couple of pre-season games?

Positives for me were that most of the young guys showed they can play. McCargo, Williams, Simpson, Whitner, and Ellison made some nice plays. Youboty may take a little more time, but Greer and King looked good. I like the WR's (Evans, Price, Parrish, and Reed with Royal and Everett at TE has some nice potential) and RB's as well. But it will be a tough and improbable getting to 8-8 with the inconsistent QB and OL play. If Losman or perhaps Nall can develop some consistency, the Bills could become a tough team to play by the 2nd half. It may be early to write Holcomb off, but he simply limits the offense so much without having to be respected more than 10 yards downfield.

All the other Bills draft picks got their deals done in time including another 1st rounder that was supposedly drafted too high. If Whitner is being low-balled, he should go public with it. Otherwise, most rational people will assume he is holding out over the length of the contract, one which will be paying him more than every safety not named Roy Williams.

Excellent post. That what makes things like the current Depth Chart game on ESPN in July even more foolish. With injuries and relatively equal talent levels across the league, the difference is usually coaching and getting a few lucky breaks.

I think you may have a cause-and-effect problem with that research. Teams that are winning naturally run more and teams that are behind get run on. I would be more interested to see the relationship between 3rd down conversion rates on both sides of the ball and winning %.

There's still a lot of highly-rated big dudes available. Jean-Giles, Rod Wright, Watson, Jonathan Scott. It would be nice to get a space-eater at DT for short-yardage/goal-line situations. Also need depth at OT.

Maybe Williams turns out to be a Hall-of-Famer. But Casserly sounds like a fool trying to justify the pick. Citing Williams' combine numbers and the switch to a 4-3 defense as reasons to take Williams over Bush just digs a bigger hole.

While they have a well-run organization, when it comes to drafts, trades, contracts and the like, the Eagles organization cannot be trusted. I would not do any dealings with them at all if I were Marv. Same goes for New England. Those organizations take themselves a little too seriously and will twist your arm for every last penny. I think having Brady and McNabb has made those organizations think that they are smarter than everybody(maybe they are) and I would prefer not to deal with either of them.

I don't think Marv would trade up unless it is a player at a need position. It's gotta be a LT or DT they are targeting at the end of the 1st round. If Ferguson is not their at #8, then it's probably Ngata, then Winston at #26.

Trade up to #7 with Raiders for a 4th rounder and take Ferguson. If Ferguson is there at #7 and the Bills don't trade up because they already made up their minds that they won't trade up, it would be a shame. Because someone will make a deal with the Raiders to move up for Ferguson if the Bills don't.

Bush, Williams, Young, Leinart, Hawk

I could see a scenario where Ferguson falls to #7, but not #8. The Raiders probably won't take him but there's plenty of teams that would trade up at the point. So the Bills would probably have to part with at least a 4th rounder to swap picks.

I think trading down and getting another Day 1 pick is a good strategy given the state of the team. However, if you trade down past pick #12, you run the likely risk that Justice, Bunkley, and Ngata are gone. Most of the projections have all DB's, RB's, and WR's slotted 15-25.

I agree with the original premise of this post. And with Huff and Cutler as the consensus #8 and #9 players, I see the Bills going down a few slots and picking up at least another 4th, and still getting Ngata or Bunkley. I don't think the Bills will be demanding a lot as they will still get one of the 2 DT's for a cheaper price. In a perfect world, Arizona or St. Louis would trade up for Cutler, Detroit would take Huff, and the Bills would get their 1st choice. However, the most likely scenario is St. Louis trading up for Huff, whom Detroit would probably take, then Baltimore going up to #9 to take Ngata. Arizona probably wouldn't take Bunkley at #10, but that prospect may tie the Bills hands from trading down to #11 unless St. louis promises they are taking Cutler.

Didn't we have the #3 pick that year and traded down to #8 and get the extra 2nd rounder? Maybe Marv is referring to taking Rogers at #3 instead of trading down and getting Conlanat #8.

Right now, it seems like the Bills brass view DT as a much greater need than OT. During the Levy/Polian years, the team almost always drafted based on need and then talent and was willing to make moves to reconcile the two. However, I think if Hawk, Ferguson, or Williams somehow falls to 8, Marv will go with one of them as they are all positions of need as no one knows if Spikes will be the same player. If those guys aren't there, I think Marv will entertain offers to move down a few spots if somebody wants one of the 3 QB's. If someone is willing to give up say a 3rd rounder, the Bills could move down and still be guaranteed to get Bunkley, Ngata, Justice, or even Huff. 2nd round - best Guard available as it seems there are some good ones slotted around our pick.

If he lasts until the one of the Bills 2 3rd round picks, he'd be mighty tempting. Before then, the Bills simply don't have the luxury of taking White. But he is a tough, move-the-pile, blue-collar RB that would be a perfect fit for this team.

It would seem pretty logical that if one of the QB's is there at #8 the Bills would trade down or even take the QB themselves. Staying there and taking a player whom you could probably get a little later when there are a couple of teams that would most likely want to trade up to get a QB is wasted value.

It doesn't take toughness to sit there and get your head beat in. Pay someone enough money (RJ) and they will do that. Harrington had no respect in the locker room or in the huddle. From watching him play, I just don't think football is in his blood (that doesn't mean he doesn't have some talent). Perhaps some here taught little Joey his piano lessons and are in the 'KNOW', but nothing on the field points to him turning it around.

No to Harrington. He is a pu$$y. The key to those Marv's Super Bowl teams was Jimbo's toughness, heart, and leadership. That is also why I see Losman not lasting very long here.

One thing to consider with Brees is that he turned the corner when his arm strength improved drastically 2 years ago. If he has lost that, he could easily become an average QB again.

I think this a good PR move by Levy. If Moulds doesn't re-structure, even the crazies can't cry about keeping him at $10m per year. An effort was made by the Bills. Who is going to give Moulds more than a couple million a year for 2 or 3 years? He's a solid player I'd like to keep around but any reasonable person would come to the conclusion that he's ridiculously over-paid at his current figure.

If there is someone out there better than Holcomb, I'm all for bringing them in. This was Losman's free year to wet his pants. From now on, he only plays if he's better than his competition. The Bills don't have that much money invested in him and Levy has no ties to him. Losman better show some big improvement or he will not play much next year.

I was not impressed with Ngata very much the other night. He is huge and looks to be a decent athlete, but got zero push off the line of scrimmage. Mario Williams, on the other hand, was super impressive in their bowl game the other night.

I remember watching an ESPN special on him during his Senior year where they showed him throwing down some sick dunks. I think they also said Wisconsin has a dunk contest for its football players and Leonhard won it at 5'8".
