The BEST mock draft so far!
BuffaloRebound replied to raleighbillsfan78's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Didn't realize Taibbi knew football that well. Absolutely hilarious. Best part was comment about the crappy teams wasting picks on medical/character risks and 3rd round QB's and then the good teams picking at the bottom of the first getting all the solid guys who will play for 10 years. So true. -
Anyone Else Hear Jerry Sullivan on WGR Monday?
BuffaloRebound replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pretty sure that is consistent with what everyone is saying. Newton, Dareus, or Miller, probably in that order. Don't think Gabbert is relevant to your story. -
Worked out pretty well for Jimbo, who by the way I loved as our QB. Most of the guys in NFL locker-rooms are basically paid mercenaries. As long as he is driven to be the best, personality faults can be over-come.
-
Unlike most here, I'd be pretty pumped about getting Newton. Thought he came across as phony on the Gruden special, but the best players aren't usually the best guys. There's enough people doubting him out there and if he falls to #3 at this point, I think he'd have a nice chip on his shoulder.

Potential Trade with the Pats?
BuffaloRebound replied to EldaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brady isn't getting any younger. If they don't win another title, people will look back and say the Pats were stupid for constantly stock-piling future picks and not giving Brady more help. It totally goes against the Pats nature, but if they did offer #17, #28, and #33 for #3, I'd definitely take it. Bills have tons of needs and this could speed up the rebuilding process by at least a year. -
This guy says production is the most important thing and that you shouldn't make excuses for lack of production, and then turns around and does exactly that with Locker.

After watching Gruden's QB Camp ...
BuffaloRebound replied to HankBulloughMellencamp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Newton came across as a phony. Seemed like he tried to BS and smile his way through the interview. In the end though it doesn't really matter if he tears it up on the field. Probably a good kid at heart, but I wouldn't want Mallett as the face of my franchise. Seems like a fragile dude. Locker and Mallett seemed like stand-up guys who took criticism well. Locker didn't come across as the sharpest knife. Hard to get a read on Gabbert. -
Gailey and Nix don't seem like guys who do much bluffing. Bills haven't been linked to Mallett and Gailey always talks about the game changing towards mobile QB's. Problem is that everyone knows the Bills like Ponder and similar to Tebow last year, it will probably cause someone who also likes him to panic and take him higher than he would've gone. If not Ponder, then I think the other QB the Bills might make a move for is Locker.

Whats your dream 1st round
BuffaloRebound replied to karl malones other son's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
+1. Trade-ups usually happen when a team covets a QB. Cincy probably takes Green if the 2 QB's are gone. We still get who we were gonna take at #3 and get an extra 2nd. -
NFLDraftcountdown.com 3 round mock...
BuffaloRebound replied to DreReed83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OT is as big of a need or bigger than DL. With Miller pencilled in at #3, Nix can take his favorite among OT, DL, and QB at #34. That draft makes sense. Would be surprised if Dalton is there at #34 and Ijalana in the 3rd round. -
bills on the clock...espn weighs in
BuffaloRebound replied to benbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's basically what Dilfer said. Only chance a QB like him has of winning a championship is having one of the best defenses ever. Thought the segment was fair to the Bills and probably the discussion Nix and Gailey are having with themselves. -
Buffalo tax payers pick up ahuge tab due to lockout
BuffaloRebound replied to erynthered's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only thing this is subsidizing is Ralph's pockets. He clearly hasn't made enough money off his $25,000 investment. Sell the team to a guy like the Sabres' owner who cares more about winning and isn't pre-occupied how much more money some other franchises are making than his. -
The guy might be the #1 overall pick. You'd think he'd raise the level of the talent around him.
-
Hey, people who've forgotten more about football than I'll ever know said he looked good, so what do I know. I guess it's just hard for me to get excited about a guy who put up pedestrian numbers in an offense that his predecessor lit it up in.
-
Stiff and mechanical was more in regards to his throwing motion, but he also didn't strike me as extremely nimble. Looks like he has some good straight line speed though. Has the pretty boy look like Quinn also. I guess I just have a hard time figuring out how a guy who supposedly has all the tools didn't dominate in college.
-
Admittedly haven't seen any of Gabbert's games, but watching his pro day footage reminded me of Brady Quinn. Very stiff and mechanical.
-
There is only 1 team after Jax's pick at #16 and before our 2nd round pick that would even consider taking a QB in the 1st round. A guy like Locker could very well be there for us in the 2nd round. Very possible Newton and/or Gabbert also free fall. Is any team really excited about burning a top 10 pick on a QB who is a couple years away from playing? Early 2nd is probably too early for a QB like Ponder without huge upside.
-
Do we really have a bigger need than franchise QB? Don't know if Gabbert or Newton are that guy, but if Gailey can make Fitzpatrick into a decent starting QB, I'd love to see what he can do with somebody with elite talent.
-
Think Nix values guys who produce more than 1 year. I remember him saying that Phillip Rivers was the surest thing he ever scouted and mentioned that he won 4 Bowl games and was MVP of every one of those games. We also didn't take any underclassmen in the draft last year. Maybe Newton has the talent to be the exception to the rule, but more than likely 4 year guys like Cameron Jordan or Von Miller will be the pick.
-
It didn't stop Green and Peterson from dominating early on in their careers. And Texas A&M and the Big 12 is pretty good competition too. All these guys can bust, but when there is that much money involved at the top of the draft, I think track-record is more important than potential.
-
Guess I'm a little scared that Fairley and Bowers only produced at a high level for 1 year. Dareus hasn't really produced at a high level for a full season. Did a light go on permanently or did they just smell the money? Peterson and Green have been studs basically their entire collegiate career, and Miller has done it multiple seasons. Plus Miller allowed himself to get scrutinized and coached by an NFL staff in the Senior Bowl and stood up to the test. Sure, any guy could bust, but it just seems like Peterson, Green, and Miller are surer bets.
-
Kind of warming to Miller. Sounds like he has a higher floor than most of the guys we could take at #3. Wouldn't have a problem with Peterson or Green either. Guys like Bowers, Fairley, and Dareus might have higher upsides and be more a position of need, but with our recent draft history, I'd be happy taking the guy with the lowest bust potential.

To all of you who complain about long throwing motions.
BuffaloRebound replied to Kevin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure Elway is a good example of a "wind up" motion. His stride was pretty big but his throwing motion was compact and his arm speed was unmatched. Vick on the other hand hardly strides at all, but has some funky arm action. -
Ralph is a reactionary, so I highly doubt we take an undersized pass rusher at #3 so close after the Maybin pick. It's probably the same reason we took Maybin over Orakpo, with the recent history of ralph writing huge checks to flops from Texas like Mike Williams and Dockery. So I am prepared for the Bills passing on Miller and him becoming the next Freeney.
