Trent Edwards calls Jim Kelly Naive
BuffaloRebound replied to Deep2Moulds46's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I actually like that Edwards is standing up for himself. Doesn't mean he's gonna win the starting job, but good for him. The Bills are in desperate need of new memories, and the sooner Thurman and Kelly aren't in the headlines every other week the better. -
Five Reasons The Bills Should Sign................
BuffaloRebound replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Given the Bills QB situation, I really hope they at least kick the tires on where Russell's head is at. I wish we weren't in a position where someone like Russell at least has to be considered. If he can get himself in shape, I'm not sure why he isn't a better option than Brohm. -
Kind of hard to do without knowing how much money these players are due this year and next. Someone like Stroud who signed a big contract extension 2 years ago might stick around if most of the money has already been paid. If he's owed $6-7m each the next 2 years, you probably don't keep him unless he suddenly becomes an excellent defensive end. Kelsay, Spencer Johnson, and Mitchell fall in the same boat in terms of how much money is owed them this year and next. I think Maybin gets at least another year, considering he only played 2 years in college and is still very young.

actual positive news from mort!

Gailey and Nix are good ol' boys from down South. Mortenson is part of that club. -
Is Roscoe a lock to make the team?
BuffaloRebound replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he lets way too many punts bounce and roll 20 yards down the field. Not sure if he misjudges a lot of punts or is trying to pad his punt return average, but he was a negative factor in a lot of games last year. He is too small and not powerful enough to break tackles as a WR. As a punt returner, he operates in space that you don't get playing offense or even returning kicks. He's a great punt returner when he actually catches the ball, but his contract and Spiller + McKelvin probably means he doesn't make the team. -
It really bothers me that Edwards and Fitzpatrick are both still on the team. These guys have played in enough games to see whether they are starting material. Cut one and bring in another QB with legitimate upside. Tell Russell that we'll sign him to a deal if he gets under 260lbs. Stop wasting time on guys with back-up potential.

Brown's got a nice, compact delivery and the ball seems to really zip out of his hand. Never liked Brohm's throwing motion going back to Louisville. Looks like a hitch where he brings the ball closer to his ear when his arm comes forward. He sacrifices a lot of velocity doing that. Edwards has mechanical flaws too that I think will always compromise his ability to get the ball down the field.

I guess I was talking more as a fan on the QB situation. The Edwards-Fitzpatrick-Brohm triumvirate is hard to get excited about. What do you lose if you cut one of them and bring in a wildcat QB for special packages? It is hard to see a situation where 1 of the 3 creates any separation in the QB competition. I just don't see the need to keep all 3 around. It is hard enough to go with the right guy when there is an open QB competition between 2 guys.

Despite the Miami turnaround talk, I think you can tell Gailey knows that without a lot of breaks this is a rebuilding year. I like the transition to the 3-4, the size added to the Front 7, a playmaker in Spiller, not even entertaining the possibility of an Owens return, and the focus on bigger WR's. Obviously, Left Tackle is a huge need, but it sounds like they are currently working on that. The only complaint I have right now is basically staying pat at QB. Edwards, Fitzpatrick, and Brohm scare no one and are basically the same guy. If Gailey is an expert on QB's and creative, why not bring in a QB that brings something different to the table and can make things happen with his feet?
-
Jamaal Brown or Gaither... they're both better than what we have now. Brown can probably be had for cheaper since he's coming off an injury and totally expendable. He's also a free agent after 2010. Maybe Schobel or Whitner straight-up gets it done. Heck, Gregg-O might even have an interest in Kelsay as well. Bills probably wouldn't even need or want to give Brown an extension before he proves he's healthy. Can always franchise him if he returns to Pro Bowl form. So he's probably less expensive compensation and money-wise.

NFL Execs expect Gathier trade
BuffaloRebound replied to WordByrd's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Gaither is going to be a free agent next year, why waste a 2nd rounder or more on him this year? With our QB situation, it's not like he will put us over the hump this year. I am more in favor of a veteran LT like Adams with the hopes of Wang or Bell eventually beating him out. If Wang or Bell can't do it, give Gaither huge money next year to protect Locker or Mallett without sacrificing a high draft pick. -
NFL Execs expect Gathier trade
BuffaloRebound replied to WordByrd's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ravens need DB's badly. We seem to have a bunch. Maybe Nix and Gailey are waiting to see everyone in the mini-camps before dealing one. Highly doubt Nix will trade a 2nd rounder for Gaither. He rightly seems to value draft picks especially premium ones very highly. -
If people can make excuses for Edwards, there are plenty of excuses to be made for Russell... Al Davis is literally crazy, he had a 31 year-old head coach who didn't want him and was fired after 1 year, was handed $30m+ at age 21. Not really sure he had a chance to succeed. I'd take a chance on him if he gets in shape.

Final thread on Trent Edwards
BuffaloRebound replied to bbillyfootballcoach's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Edwards either doesn't trust his arm or doesn't have the ability to throw before a WR makes his break. -
Signing A Bunch of Linebackers
BuffaloRebound replied to yungmack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It will be interesting to see what happens at LB. Defensive Line and Secondary are pretty much set. Schobel, Kelsay, Mitchell, Poz, Davis, Ellis and Maybin plus the 2 rookies. 8 out of the 9 will be learning a new position. -
I am excited by Spiller and the fact that our defense will be bigger and hopefully not pushed all over the field. Still doubt we win more than 5-6 games.
-
What does that have to do with Adams? He got cut by a team with Super Bowl aspirations. His other reported suitor is the Bears. Is he going to win a Super Bowl with the Bears next year?
-
If we're competing against a Super Bowl contender for Adams' services, maybe this is an issue. Otherwise, money is money. Kind of an unnecessary obnoxious comment by Schefter. He should stick to re-gurgitating what insiders tell him.
-
Agreed. Bell isn't good enough to be handed the job. Bring in Adams in the hope Bell improves and beats him out. If not, at least you have a veteran there.

Are they really that good?
BuffaloRebound replied to RealityCheck's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Could also work both ways. If we can stop the run, Whitner or another safety won't have to constantly cheat against the run. Having a head coach who's only expertise was DB's at least gives you a decent secondary. -
Bills contacted Ravens about Gaither
BuffaloRebound replied to Tortured Soul's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The good thing is that he is really young and that might be intriguing to Nix who looks like he's building for the long term. If we start the year with Bell at LT, don't see how they're giving this team or the QB's a chance at all. The Ravens also have a need at CB, which they didn't address in the draft. I wouldn't trade draft picks for Gaither. Draft picks are too important to a team like the Bills. How about McKelvin for Gaither? -
Round 6, Pick #178: DE/OLB Arthur Moats - James Madison
BuffaloRebound replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not all 1AA's are equal. Colonial is the best 1AA conference by far. Comparable to the MAC. Dominating that level is no small feat. -
Bills 2nd round pick should be......
BuffaloRebound replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gronkowski is pretty intriguing. Local kid and Bills have never had a difference maker at Tight End. If Gailey can figure out how to play 3 RB's, he can get 2 TE's on the field too. -
The next starter from Round 2
BuffaloRebound replied to Gotta Dream's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like this thinking. Not that many teams ahead of us in 2nd round looking for LT's. Miami most likely takes Mount Cody the pick before us. -
I think that Clausen is there at #41 if we want him. Cleveland is the only other team likely to take a QB before us and they supposedly like McCoy. Don't think Minnesota takes Clausen - their window is small and that might push Favre into retirement. I still think we pass even if he's there at #41. The way the 1st round played out, Spiller looked like the right pick. Davis from Rutgers was the only other need pick that went close to #9.
