  1. One positive about this is it would eliminate Cleveland in the darnold sweepstakes next year.
  2. No one is giving Glennon $30m guaranteed and $40m the first 2 years.
  3. The most I could see Cleveland giving is a 3rd rounder. That contract sucks for the Bills and would suck for Cleveland. Since Cleveland is every free agents last choice, that contract might just suck less than what they'd have to pay if Tyrod was free agent. What I actually think is happening is Cleveland's trying to bait Bills into keeping Tyrod at that inflated contract so Bills pass on QB at 10. There's no way Bills are giving Taylor $30m guaranteed and taking QB at 10.
  4. Never thought I'd say this, but go get Cutler. Sign Marshall, draft another WR and actually have a modern NFL offense. Doubt you'll have to pay cutler more than $12-15m guaranteed. Will be easier to walk away from cutler than Tyrod next year, and I actually think team would have a higher ceiling next year with cutler. Floor is lower but I'd rather go with a boom or bust guy than an 8-8 guy like Tyrod.
  5. Would be extremely Billsy to pay a backup RB $5m per year when the most you have to pay him this year is $2.8m.
  6. Yes. If a team with $100m in cap room that would be happy with an 8-8 season doesn't want that contract, Bills shouldn't either.
  7. If Cleveland won't take on that contract, then neither should the Bills.
  8. I could see Cleveland trading for Tyrod. They will have to severely overpay to get a decent free agent QB, so that contract is not an impediment to them. A rookie QB has no chance of success there. 8-8 is a huge improvement for Cleveland, and Tyrod can get you that.
  9. If we keep Tyrod, drafting a WR at 10 is a wasted pick.
  10. Nice to have your starter for another 2 years on his rookie deal. What does this have to do with Taylor? Glennon will be starting for someone next year and wont be getting $30m guaranteed.
  11. Does Cleveland turn its attention on Tyrod with garrapolo out? Would you take a 2nd round pick for Tyrod? A rookie has no chance of success in Cleveland, they almost have trade for a QB with experience.
  12. Not a fan of paying him that kind of money, but I guess I'd rather pay a guy like Taylor who is a leader and leaves it all out on the field than a guy like Gilmore who looks like he's mailing it in half the time.
  13. Not outlandish. McCoy probably has 1 good year left. If Bills go young/rebuild, no reason to keep McCoy. Trade him to a contender.
  14. How many rookies can you successfully assimilate into a 53 man roster? Most rookies need more than a year before they meaningfully contribute. Can you really invest that time with that many draft picks?
  15. At least Cleveland has a plan, but they are now approaching over-kill territory. When you have that many picks their value starts to decline.
  16. Agreed. That's why giving Tyrod $30m is not something you do. Sign Landry Jones to a deal similar to Tyrods 2015 deal and let the 2 Joneses compete for the starting job.
  17. I'm surprised Landry Jones isnt getting talked about as a potential Tyrod replacement. 4 years backing up Big Ben, looked pretty good last year when he played. Polian thought he was best QB in 2013 draft. I'm sure he'd come here for cheap if he thinks he's gonna start here. Similar situation to Tyrod in 2015.
  18. Keep Tyrod but push the $15m option bonus to 2018 and move up the $3m guarantee from 2018 into 2017. He regressed from 2015, we have a new coaching staff, and we have other free agents to sign. He gets $15m guaranteed this year and a chance to prove he's worth the rest of the deal. Nobody outside of Cleveland is giving him more than $15m guaranteed, and Buffalo is probably his best shot to prove he's a top 15 QB. If he walks, have fun in Cleveland.
  19. I think 100% would take Smith at 1 year $13m nonguaranteed, over Tyrod at $30m guaranteed. There's not that much difference between the 2, but Smith at least has a playoff pedigree That is still an unknown with Tyrod. Similar contracts, I think 80% pick Smith. Nobody is giving Tyrod more than $15m guaranteed if Bills cut him. Basically 1 year of starter money.
  20. He is this generations' Jeff George. Just like George, teams will keep gambling on this turd because of his arm talent.
  21. Guaranteed money is much more important than cap if we're talking about drafting a QB in the first 2 rounds this year or next year, which seems like the only thing everyone can agree on.
  22. Winning organizations don't operate this way. If he's not the long term answer and the Bills are still using high draft picks on QB's, you don't commit that kind of money to him.
  23. I don't think it's prudent to guarantee Taylor $30m and then draft a QB at #10. If you're truly trying to win in 2017 while drafting a QB at #10, you have to go after a guy like Smith whose salary is $13m and none of it is guaranteed.
  24. If they don't cut him in next 2 weeks, Bills are absolutely committing to Taylor as the starter for the next 2 years. $30m for 1 year is absurd to even the most ardent Tyrod supporter.
  25. The importance of a good contract/cap person has never been greater. Committing long term to guys who either aren't elite or knuckleheads not only ruins your cap but forces you to cut or restructure the same player due to your own poor contract construction. I dont get a warm and fuzzy feeling that Whaley has much command in this department and Overdorf is left on his own to poorly structure these contracts.
