Can someone explain to me the Pats strategy?
BuffaloRebound replied to appoo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Brady winning a super bowl with Bucs really messed with their psyche. -
Is it time for Gronk to come home?

I guess the Colts playoff game wasn’t a game you re-watched. He was a good returner though, but his best days probably behind him. Good for him he’s getting one more payday.

Free agency is 4 minutes old.

Cap impact of retirement?
BuffaloRebound replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude had a major heart issue unearthed at combine. That’s why he fell to mid first round. Id imagine Covid made him re-assess the risk of playing. I’d take it easy on him if he decides to retire. -

Probably, but you never know. And if Bills drive up his price, they’re gonna have to cut Brate or Howard and I’d happily sign either of them too. -

A cut doesn’t save any money. It actually makes things worse because they’re on the hook for $5m in salary guarantees this year and $2m next year plus $7.8m in bonus amortization. A post June 1 retirement looks like best cap scenario because it both eliminates $7m in guaranteed salary and spreads the dead cap bonus amortization over 2 years. Best case might actually be another opt out and then a post June 1 retirement in 2022. -

Tampa still has a lot of guys to sign most notably Shaq Barrett. I’m sure Tampa wants him back but at a reduced price. Buffalo is his leverage with them but sometimes the team you use as leverage is the team you end up signing with. -

Feelings about the guy aside, he’s exactly what the doctor ordered for this offense. Complements Knox perfectly. A great blocker and chain moving red zone threat. -
A lot of them will probably come cheaper than the lowest tender.

Cap impact of retirement?

Yes, but then you gotta pay him the $250k roster bonus coming up. But probably worth it to get an extra $3.9m in cap space this year. -

https://www.catscratchreader.com/2020/1/15/21066845/nfl-carolina-panthers-luke-kuechly-retirement-cap-space-2020-what-does-it-mean looks like it’s same as a trade. Don’t have to pay any guaranteed money that hasn’t already been paid. Dead cap from bonus amortization hits in year of retirement. so if Star retired, he’d forfeit his $5m in guaranteed salary, but $5.2m of future bonus amortization would hit this year. So basically a wash cap wise if he retires, but clears cap space in future years. -
It’s not rocket science. Much more important to sign the right guys. Structure of the contract is the easy part. Unlike the real world, when it comes to the cap the bill almost never comes due. If you still want the player, there’s always a way to keep pushing the cap hit to future years. Take Mahomes or Josh for example. They’re gonna be your QB for the next 12-15 years. There’s no reason to not push the cap hit way out into the future. Half of us will be dead before the bill comes due.
-
Those guys will be lucky if they sign for much more than the vet minimum. Sucks for them that their contracts expired in a down 8% cap year. They’re all pretty replaceable.

Bills re-sign Feliciano

I think a little more balance on offense is what we’re all looking for. When a team sells out to stop your passing game like KC did, you gotta be able to take the 5-6 yard gains on the ground they were basically gift wrapping to us. I still think Moss will be a solid RB that can do what we need. Comes down to the amount of resources you wanna devote to it. Giving Gronk a 2 year $20m deal and drafting Etienne at pick 30 would certainly make our running game dynamic. -
Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
BuffaloRebound replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’m sure Roseman doesn’t want Ertz going to the Colts for no compensation and you gotta think that’s where Ertz ends up. -
Aaron Jones re-signing with GB
BuffaloRebound replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, for those who want Etienne or Harris at pick 30, nobody’s taking a RB from picks 26 through 29. And I doubt 2 go before pick 25 but you never know. -
Perhaps there’s restructures/extensions that have yet to be announced but are official. Pretty sure the Bills announced all their moves so far.
-
I hear you but none of those guys move the needle much and most/all are replaceable with vet minimum guys or draft picks.

Geez. Y’all make Beane’s job easy with these low expectations. We ain’t broke. Far from it. We are $10m under the cap and could easily free up another $15-20m with Hughes, White, Dawkins and Diggs re-structures/extensions. We need an upper-tier pass rusher and an in-line Tight End who isn’t just a 6th Offensive Lineman. Get it done Beane.
