Researchers develop 10-Minute Cancer-detecting Blood Test
Shamrock replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I’m actually recovering from prostate cancer surgery right now, been following this news for several weeks, mine was diagnosed in part from 1. Having familiar Hx and 2. Monitoring PSA level changes. There’s also the Clot Retreval for strokes, the vaccine for Melanoma, a potential end to Type 1 diabetes, a new medication to delay onset of Alzheimer. There’s a lot of great science coming through. At a a recent conference a medical friend informed that one of the speakers quoted that in 50 years about 30% of the procedures we undertake will have been made redundant. Science is amazing. -
I went from waiting impatiently for each episode to m’eh, ‘jump the shark’. When it’s on Netflix I’ll try again. If you watch it, can you comment a yeah or n’ah, ta.

Cool story for all you history buffs out there
Shamrock replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
There’s a brilliant Australian Gallipoli book called Jacks Journey. Started when the author, as child, visiting his friend and his friend had his Uncle’s WW1 journal. He wrote 3 journals & was killed in a rather notorious battle. The bravery and mateship displayed gives you tingles. The author wrote a very detailed account from this journal as well as collecting other accounts, including those of the Turks. One of those books that draw you in. What makes men leave a trench of comparatively safety, run across 40 yards of ground of racking enfilade fire on both sides to try and get supplies, ammunition and water, to the furthest trench to which defilade protection is a couple feet of dirt scratched out of the landscape. When every other soldier that previously tried was cut down. But if supplies don’t get there those guys are going to get routed. On they went. These books are brilliant accounts of history. -

Got diagnosed with cancer a couple weeks back and have decided to grow a beard until I win. I’m not a great beard grower.

The AFL league in Oz has a ‘Father Son’ draft. If a player makes 100 club games his child may be drafted by that club when elligible. Began in the 1940’s when a club wanted to draft a son of a player killed in WW2 as an honour for the family. Each draft pick is assigned a value (with No. 1 starting at 3000 points, declining exponentially until No. 74 which has no value), which is regressed from historical player salary data. During the draft, any club may bid for a father–son eligible player with any draft pick. The father's club, if it wishes to select the son, must then use its next one or more draft picks until the total points value of the surrendered picks adds up to the value of the draft pick used by the bidding, less a discount – which is either 20% of the bid value or 197 points (equivalent to pick No. 56), whichever is greater. Any points left over after reaching the bid value result in the draft pick being shuffled down the order. The club which originally made the bid then has the next selection in the draft. I’m now at an age where I’m watching the kids of the stars of my childhood. There’s definitely a ‘legacy’ connection that’s strong with the fan bases that’s great. Collingwood for example has about 5 players with dad’s being club legends. List of 40.

Much the same. A bit too open ended for the little amount of time I used to have to play a game- a level was enough.

I can recall the lecture on Gout- crystal induced arthropathy clearly. It’s a shame it hurts as much as it does as it’s a rather pretty crystal.

I’ve dislocated left elbow- snatching, arm went backwards, broken right collar bone, dislocated L knee thrice- football, have 45 stitches in L leg- fell from a cliff ledge, sutured cheek- glassed- pub work, forehead- pub work, lips- blacked out weightlifting, chin laceration and chipped chin- football, dental implant- glassed, pub work, fingers- broken- football, pubs and sutures- opened a glass bottle that the metal cap had stuck on and the cap and neck of the bottle snapped and went through hand, back sutures- stabbed in pub, L foot- smashed toe- crow bar. Was a ‘difficult’ youngster! Worse actual pain, watching my daughter being anaesthetised for a procedure, my 9 month old in ICU with hydrocephalus and again my daughter when born was in NICU- Bay 8 for 2 weeks. They were far worse for me!

Tremaine Edmunds: what’s his nickname?
Shamrock replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Platypus. Well, he’s unique. He can rush, play the run and cover. Like they took traits from linebackers, mixed ‘em up and created him ? -
Didn’t Brad Culpepper, Buccaneer DT from years ago, drop a tonne and compete in survivor. I think he had a column on weight loss being necessary, as it’s not normal to be comparatively, THAT big On a a side note, same as the Super Heavy Weight lifters, Taranenko looks way different then his world record days. Not that he was a ‘fat’ Super, but I met Pisarenko at the 2000 Olympics and he still looked sharp. Dean Lukin ways maybe 200lbs. And the training type. Noticed how different an Olympic Weightlifter v Powerlifter v Bodybuilders physique look... (not including aftermarket upgrades ? ...how different the quads of a bike- sprinter look to the road guys. I’m thinking it’s the Barre type for GBS And not GroupB strep type, I take it?

EXACTLY why I think Beane blew the '18 draft. -Rd. 1
Shamrock replied to #34fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On a different note, I’m not a fan of including the trade down in the cost; Allen moved #12 to #7 at a cost of pick #53 & #56, Edmunds, was a swop or #22 to #16 for pick #65. But that’s not your issue... The swop down is a not an insubstantial increase in player value/ worth, only 6 teams have picked whomever they want prior, leaving the talent pool, less 6. Pick #12 is 1500points, #7 is 1200points. How much do you value what 300 points may get you, time will tell. (So doing the draft calculator the move #12 to #7 cost us about #49 in the 2nd Rd- if we had that pick. So a gamble cost us a 2nd Rd player on the ‘perceived’ player draft position and rankings worth. Again with Edmunds, the swop of #22 to #16, cost us overall a gain of an additional 6th Rd, pick #190... Soooooo, all up Edmunds and Allen, a potential starting QB and 3down backer cost the worth of about #52 in the 2nd Rd of the draft rankings... assuming we know that a 6th Rd not named Tom exists and that #1 overall isn’t a Couch or Russell- but this is just math from the ‘draft value board’.)
