  1. Not entirely accurate. Here's the complete list: 1 - Paul Hornung 2 - Roger Staubach (2 Superbowls) 3 - Jim Plunkett (2 Superbowls) 4 - Tony Dorsett 5 - Mike Garrett 6 - Desmond Howard 7 - Marcus Allen 8 - George Rogers 9 - Reggie Bush Those aren't in order and obviously Reggie Bush had to give up his Heisman after the fact due to the cheating ways of USC, but who cares? Now if you had said there were only 2 Heisman trophy winners that were selected #1 in the draft to have won superbowls, you would be right and that would be Plunkett (with 2) and Hornung. That's a different stat though.
  2. Thanks. I like the idea of someone being there that shouldn't be or a trade down. Either/or satisfies.
  3. Based on what you've written, that's not true. Evans is faster by a long shot. How would Ebron be better across the middle and screens. 40, shuttle, etc., also favor Evans. Failed argument.
  4. You really have to start adding up your picks though to assume that Evans is gone. That is really my point. Pick any 2 QB's to be gone. Most have 3 before Buffalo, but let's just take 2 for argument sake. Clowney, Mack, Robinson, Watkins. That's 4 more and gets you to 6. I don't know anyone that has any of those 4 still available for Buffalo. If it is just 6, then is it Evans and Matthews at that point? I guess I don't oversimplify it really. My decision tree looks a bit like this: 1 - Bortles/Manziel or Clowney to Houston. Obviously here, it's whomever is their #1 "guy". Needed QB or next Mario? 2 - If QB is chosen #1, Clowney or Robinson fall to this spot. I think Robinson is more likely, but we'll see how St. Louis responds. 3 - It's possible at this point that Clowney still hasn't been chosen, but he won't fall beyond here beyond a JAC QB pick. That could happen as well. Clowney, Robinson, Bortles/Manziel. Regardless for me, 1 QB is gone + Clowney and Robinson. 4 - Cleveland's pick is ugly. QB #2 or Mack/Watkins? That's most likely, but I'm also guessing if by some strange miracle that there's no chosen QB by now, that they pull the trigger. 5 - The Raiders plucked Matt Schaub, so QB is off the table. Watkins probably their #1 guy followed again by any of those above. 6 - Atlanta doesn't have QB on the radar. Robinson can't be here, right. Mack or Matthews? 7 - Tampa Bay could pick Evans here. I would assume though that Watkins has to be gone and to Cleveland at #4 or the Raiders #5. 8 - Minnesota is a mess. If they don't pick a QB, it only means to me that at least 2 if not 3, are gone already. How can they otherwise justify drafting defense or some other position that they don't need? The guys I have gone are Clowney, Mack, Watkins, Manziel, Robinson, and Matthews. With only 2 more gone, I just can't see Evans. Just me maybe.
  5. You're missing the point entirely. They would come out of college as top 10 picks KNOWING what you do about how they performed as pros. We have no such hindsight on Ebron and whether or not he'll have that value. We do know that he doesn't have their size, their hands, OR their blocking abilities. Those are pretty important things when you start throwing around Gronk and Graham as examples. For the record, if they're basically "big WR's" as you put it, then the pick is Evans. He's faster, 2 inches taller, has longer arms, catches the ball better and has another 5 inches on his vertical leap. I.e. if Ebron were a WR, we would be talking about him as a 3rd or 4th round pick....
  6. Let's just talk top-10 picks that are TE's for a second. The first presumption is that if you're picked that high that there's hype about you as a player. Out of the 17 top-10 TE picks since 1960, there's only one in the HOF and that's Mike Ditka. There's only 2 currently still playing in the NFL in Vernon Davis and Kellen Winslow and neither of those guys will ever be HOF worthy. They're just not good enough. Now look at other recent top-10 guys (last 20 years or so) and you're looking at Kyle Brady, Ricky Dudley, and Junior Miller. Gronkowski and Graham were 2nd and 3rd round picks. So for me, it comes down to this. Would I rather have Ebron in the first with the chance that he's a Ricky Dudley or Junior Miller or would I want Troy Niklas or someone similar in round 2-3 with the chance that they're a Gronk or Graham? Honestly, that's a really really easy decision for me.
  7. The U.S. side of the falls is a dump and the Canadian side is a freaking carnival. I'm with you 100% here. NF really has nothing to offer. The better play if you want to put the stadium in the city is lakefront downtown Buffalo. It's a balance of moving closer to the city, yet not so far as to lose all of the fan base that's well South.
  8. Also in order: He's doing nothing with that $1 billion because he's dead. Just FYI. His family isn't doing anything either due to the trust. Thanks Ralph! You originally said he should do it "for his family". Either it's a good reason or not, so now choose. He should have left his family with a $200 million incremental tax liability for the fans? Not smart at all. It's irrelevant how much you CAN spend and how you spend it. Wasting money (and of that proportion) would be the work of a simpleton. If his family is allowed to be an important factor, they trump everything. Mine do for me, which I'm sure is the same for most. There is no middle ground for sure. You're just bitter because it could possibly happen in 2020 (i.e. a move). Cry in your cheerios and get over it already. Most important, Ralph doesn't owe anyone anything. Glad to see trolling is still the case here on 2BD. Nope. That's not how it works. Any deal pre-death is still a legal binding contract which would trigger that double taxation. No way to avoid it. Thanks Obama!
  9. That's my kind of analysis. Hard data to support a conclusion over wild conjecture. That said, I would like to see your work split between positions. After all, we're talking about a Bills team here that will be drafting a RT. LT's get drafted early all of the time that have significant long term success in the NFL.
  10. In order: Ralph has kept the Bills in Buffalo for 50+ years. He could have sold out years ago. Securing the "price" for his family prior to his death would COST his family another $200 million in tax liability. He would not have been doing them a favor. He refused to do this because he's a shrewd business person and specifically for his family. I can imagine doing exactly what he did because I'm not an idiot. No shame here at all. Good job for Ralph!
  11. OK, to clarify...good Ohio State players...
  12. TJ, is that you? LOL. It's not his fault that he drops passes hitting him in the hands, because they're NOT HIS HANDS. He's the victim of a cruel hand transplant conspiracy. Honestly, I would trade Graham in a heartbeat. Johnson/Woods/Williams/Goodwin make him expendable.
  13. It's hard to pick just one. I like EJ Manuel last year. The Bills not only traded down, but got their #1 QB on the board. I don't think that happens too often. Cordy Glenn was huge. Here's a guy that could have been the first LT chosen, but had some character issues and the Bills get him in the 2nd round. All of the measurables of Dareus put him above Suh, so I was ecstatic for that pick. I will admit that I liked James Hardy too. Thought he had the makings of that big indefensible receiver we've been wanting to see since Eric Moulds (who wasn't all that big to boot). I liked the Whitner and Clements picks too, but have a soft spot for Ohio State defensive players.
  14. Mixed feelings about preseason games. Starters getting a little time against other starters lets players ease into the season such that they're not expected to be 100% out of the gates. Backups and bubble players playing against the same does little for me though. Do you really learn that much more from watching a scrub play against a scrub than you do watching that same scrub go against your starters in practice? Injury risks are monumental as well. More time in full contact equals more potential injury.
  15. I think this thread was started by Eric Ebron. LOL. In all seriousness, Ebron is a tweener to say the least. At 6-4 and 240 pounds, he's not quite the prototypical TE that we see in the NFL today having big success. I won't disagree that he has great speed for a big guy and runs really good routes. That's all fine and good, but I have concerns that he won't be that "always open" target for EJ that we want. In addition to his tendency to drop the ball, he's also pretty poor in blocking. Attribute some of that to his weight, which again, he's a tweener. With the 9th pick, he's a solid NO. Buffalo has yet to really utilize the TE position like some other teams do, making this type of pick in the first round unwarranted. If you're going to advocate a receiving option why wouldn't you want Mike Evans. He's taller, has a bigger wingspan, better hands, and another 5 inches on his vertical. The second best receiver in the draft is still better than the best tight end.
  16. I almost fell off my chair laughing. Sentence 1 - one game shouldn't dictate......Sentence 2 - one game example....LOL.
  17. End up with a guy like Dalton? Do you mean the same guy that has 80 TD passes to only 49 INT's? If that's the kind of guy we end up with, then I'll gladly take him. That's comparable to a Phillip Rivers, who I don't think anyone would argue, is NOT a slouch at QB.
  18. There's a couple of things that I believe. First, I believe that he was a rookie last season and only played in 10 games. I believe that but for a very small group of rookie quarterbacks that pretty much all struggled a bit in their inaugural seasons. Guys like Peyton Manning, James Edward Kelly, etc. were pretty inconsistent in their first year as a starter. Hyperbole aside, when I go back to last years games, I remember a couple of important things. At the beginning of the season, I saw way too much checkdown. I was getting pretty tired of seeing 3 and 4 yard passes and almost nothing going down field. Then something changed. I don't know if it was play calling or if EJ simply started looking more comfortable. None the less, we saw a guy being aggressive. He missed some throws, but let's remember that he made some as well. My attitude would best be described as cautiously optimistic. I'm not sold that he's the franchise, but at the same time I'm not convinced that he can't become that.
  19. No offense taken. If you follow through the thread, you'll understand that that's not what I would do at all. I'm simply suggesting that when you have 1 and 1A LT's coming out in the draft this year (Robinson/Matthews), that I wouldn't expect the Bills to play them on the right side. Wasted pick if that is the case. Lewan easily slots to RT though so that's what I'm hoping for.
  20. I'm with you 100% on this comment. 3rd round pick for a quarterback? No thanks. Give me someone later than the 5th round and preferably someone that's even a UFA. Boyd, Shaw, Gilbert and a host of others will be available late or after the draft is over.
  21. Thanks. My dad used to say that you can see a lot by looking. LOL.
  22. I'ts pronounced "m-a-r-k s-m-i-t-h"
  23. Sure. Xavier Omon looked all world at SWMS as well. See how well that did for him when he had to face superior athletes at the pro level.
  24. The run defense wasn't weak because of the play of the front 4 but from the poor play of the linebackers (except Kiko) last season. If the Bills draft a DE early, I'll eat crow. However, if I'm a betting man, I would bet heavily against it.
  25. I don't disagree with you and I would not move Glenn to RT. If I put myself in Buffalo's mentality though, that's the conclusion that I come to. Matthews is clearly LT talent and drafting him early would suggest they would do that. Glenn has been a pleasant surprise and done a heck of a job at LT. I honestly hope that both Robinson and Matthews are gone before #9. That keeps it simple for me and doesn't create any of the drama that you're suggestion could (and I think would) be. Lewan is probably the best RT out there and would fit perfectly.
