  1. For those not happy with the Bills NOT meeting with Mariota or Winston, I have to ask why. What is the point of meeting with either of these guys that could arguably go 1-2 in the draft? Should they meet with Leonard Williams as well? He is the top DT prospect and possibly considered the top prospect overall. It would be nice if people actually put some thought into it before commenting. Do the Bills need someone to compete with Manuel? I think they do. If there's anything that can be taken from the last few years, Jeff Tuel is not the answer for us as a backup QB or someone that will push Manuel anytime soon. So now the question is really whether the Bills get someone in free agency, like McCown or whether they consider drafting a one. By the look of it, the draft appears to be the best option, so the follow up question is when to draft someone. I really don't think their pick in the 2nd round is the right place at this point, unless a guy like Brett Hundley is still on the board. Buffalo may be pretty desperate for a RB or even a safety, depending on what happens in free agency.
  2. It's a wish worth wishing for, but my question would be why Peyton would want to play in the elements at the Ralph. He would have to believe with the Bills that he has a better shot than he does anywhere else as well.
  3. The difference between the college and pro level is pretty simple, and it comes down to the level of talent of players. Oregon is the perfect example. All during their regular season, they ran their offense quicker than pretty much every team they faced defensively and had a measurable amount of advantage with speed of their players to boot. Well, until they played Ohio State anyway, we know what happened. They ran the score up on pretty much everyone. In the NFL, there's no team that will simply have guys that for much of the offense are faster than the defense. Oregon isn't running plays for specific players. They're just doing it really fast. The NFL is much much more complex. Sorry to say, but except for a very limited number of guys like Andrew Luck that just have it coming out of college, it takes time to learn. CFL? Don't make me laugh. Might as well call it the Castoff Football League. That's about all it is.
  4. When all is said and done, Richie Incognito doesn't matter at all in terms of considering Michael Sam. All that matters to me is whether he's capable of playing in the NFL. There's the rub. He's not capable. He wasn't even close to being a marginal player coming out of college and now he has virtually zero chance of getting back into an NFL uniform. First, he's too small to play either defensive end or linebacker. 6-2 isn't going to cut it at DE when he's only about 260 pounds. The days of defensive ends being that small are over UNLESS you have world class footwork and speed. He has neither. He's actually on the slow side of things when it comes to speed and agility. Now tell me that a player that's kind of short to play linebacker as well that's slow and not very agile is going to be able to cover tight ends and I'll tell you that you're nuts. One AFC scout summed it up the best saying something like "it's tough considering drafting a short, slow guy whose only redeeming quality is that he tries real hard". Forget all the other nonsense. To the OP, how about not?
  5. Vincent Jackson WAS an excellent receiver. Now, he's on the wrong side of 30 (32 going on 33) and just getting older and slower. Buffalo doesn't need another guy to catch the ball. They need to be able to rely on the quarterback that can get the ball to the guys we already have. Whether that's EJ or someone else, I don't claim to know. I'll take Watkins, Woods, and Hogan at this point and hope that the Bills find someone to replace Chandler at TE.
  6. I was at a bar in Chicago. I was getting owned by Oilers fans. I left the bar and went home at halftime. Got a call from my buddy. "are you watching this"? No, I gave up. Turned it on when the score was 35-10 after the first quick score. Then, just insanity.
  7. Bills get more credit for later round picks than they get dinged for early ones. Simple math when you look back at history will tell you that they did well. Would it have been good for their early rounders to work out better? Sure, but I'm not sure any team ever is perfect. Henderson more than makes up for Kouandjio. For the round he was picked, love Preston Brown. Watkins played on one leg for half the season. It's hard to say how he'll turn out, but he's looked pretty dynamic when he gets the ball. I would no doubt give the Bills a better draft grade than our other AFC teams.
  8. Reading the title made me throw up in my mouth a little bit. NO! Why is it that every time there's a cast off, reject, 2nd or 3rd best QB on another team that we get these absolutely asinine suggestions that THAT will be our guy? If this is Peyton Manning and Denver is going young, let's have the discussion. If this is another attempt at Billy Joel Holbert, Alex Van Pelt, Doug Flutie, Rob Johnson, Drew Bledsoe, J.P. Losman, Kelly Holcomb, Vince Young, Kevin Kolb, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brian Brohm, Tyler Thigpen, Brad Smith, Thad Lewis, Kyle Orton type suggestions, it's just stupid. The Bills have tried the "save the reject" approach to a QB for 15 YEARS! Josh McCown can hold a clipboard for the rest of his life or find another real job like every other NFL QB that didn't cut it. It's not mean, just reality.
  9. I could see him turning into another Chase Daniel. One word. Journeyman. We don't need another journeyman at the helm of this team. We've tried it too many damned times in the last 15 years and it has consistently FAILED.
  10. Woohoo....Yet another suggestion for some other teams reject. We haven't tried THAT yet. LOL.
  11. I don't personally hate Lynch. What I hate is his stupidity. The CBA requires him to be media available. Why he can't learn to just respond with generic answers is beside me. Instead, this moron takes a $50K fine for not showing up. Don't try to sell me that "it's OK because he has the money". If you're going to go down that path, you might as well argue that it's OK to start your fireplace with $100 bills. Equally stupid. .
  12. I'd have to agree with Dr here. Saying we could get him with the 81st pick in the third round is the equivalent of saying that there will be 7-8 RB's taken ahead of him in the draft. It's not lost on my that Gordon is a sure first round pick, with Gurley likely going late first round or second round. I also get that a lot can happen between now and the draft, but if someone were trying to be reasonable at this point, they could have said David Cobb or Jeremy Langford in the 3rd and I wouldn't have missed a beat. Both of those guys are the same big bruising style that you're talking about with Yeldon, who should go at least a couple picks ahead of them.
  13. Dear Patriots organization, I'm sorry you are being scrutinized by the media and fans for allegedly deflating balls on purpose in order to gain a competitive advantage. After all, it's not like your coach has ever been under scrutiny in the past for indiscretions as pertains to the rules, which were used to his advantage in the past. He is clearly beyond any reproach in this matter and deserves our utmost respect as fans. I'm sorry in advance if the Seahawks use the tactic mentioned by Tony Dungy to slow down the game. It's just as possible that someone on that team could be hurt on one play and come back the next, as it is for the referees to get confused by Patriot player substitutions that would otherwise be deemed illegal. In either case, both are in the fair spirit of the game. I'm sorry that Belichick has no scientific acumen to speak of. While rubbing your own balls or those of Tom Brady may have an effect on something, rubbing an NFL football will not change the pressure of the ball. If I were a fan of your team, I would write a letter to the organization asking them to forbid BB from ever talking about science again. Whatever it is that he thinks "science" actually is. I'm sorry that Tom Brady is a whiny B word. Honestly, his incessant crying during every game about every play must get tiring. More than anything, I think I'm just grateful here that he isn't miked up such that we have to listing to it. His body language, head rolls and such are enough to make me want to yell STFU at my TV as it is. I'm sorry that even with a win on Sunday that your team will be 1-2 in Superbowls by almost every football fan that isn't a Patriots fan. Those first three wins will forever have asterisks that don't get erased with time or with continued fervid arguments that Spygate didn't really matter. With a loss in the Superbowl, your organization would be doomed forever as the team that won 3 with cheating and lost 3 with a different type of cheating that got you to the big game, but didn't help you win it. Hugs, Not a Patriots fan
  14. LOL. This in a nutshell, took the words right out of my mouth. Honestly, happy to see that he's interviewing elsewhere for an OC position. I get that Fred Jackson is saying that "Hackett really wasn't calling the plays", but am not sold that that is the complete truth. Are people really buying that all Hackett did is hold a clip board and say "yes boss" every time Marrone told him to run something? The best business case that can be made for Hackett is that he was complicit in what Marrone wanted to do offensively. Together, they decided for example, that they would be conservative in the red zone such as to not turn the ball over. Together, they managed to field the 25th best offense in the NFL and the 30th best offense in the red zone. So that being the BEST case scenario for making an argument for Hackett, here are my issues with even considering this: The offense was terrible. If there's even a remote chance that Hackett was calling the plays, I wouldn't want him back doing it again next year. If Marrone was calling the plays, Hackett didn't say a word ALL YEAR (that we know of) to anyone. That suggests that he either doesn't care or doesn't have a spine. If the latter part of #2 is right, do we really want to see him under Rex Ryan? Marrone was a strong personality, but Ryan makes him look downright docile. How do we possibly ignore the fact that this team went from one of the most potent rushing attacks in the NFL in 2013 to one of the worst in 2014? The Bills rushing attack yielded 36% less yards in 2014 than 2013 or a decline of 825 yards. The passing game only improved by 14% or 483 yards. Overall, the offense ranked 25th. Look at the playoff teams folks, of which there are 12. Only two teams had offenses there were NOT in the top half (16) of the NFL and that was Detroit and Arizona. They both lost in the wildcard round. In a nutshell, I don't have a personal issue with Hackett. I just think this team needs a completely new identity under Rex Ryan, such that we're not sitting here next January saying "see.....they should not have brought Hackett back".
  15. The first and single biggest problem with the revisionist logic is the assumption that the Bills could have gotten Beckham with their pick last year at #9. We have no idea of knowing where teams had players ranked. We also have no idea of where the Bills had players ranked. Let's say that the first WR taken is now Watkins at the Tampa Bay pick, who's to say that the Bills instead don't get Mike Evans or Eric Ebron? All the logic in the world doesn't convince me that the draft is so simple that a caveman can do it. Second, there's nothing that anyone can say that can prove out Beckham or Evans would have been better for the Bills than Watkins. They did better with THEIR quarterbacks throwing them the ball and THEIR OC's calling the plays. It means little to what you can say they would have done with Manuel/Orton throwing the ball and Hackett calling the plays. They also did better and were not dealing with nagging hamstring injury issues. Sammy suited up the whole year, but his play was most certainly hampered at time by nagging, but minor injuries, that were critical to his position. So the question then comes down to whether I would have who they could have picked at #9 last year plus the #19 this year or Sammy. Here's my take: Whether you look at the Bills taking Evans, Beckham or even Eric Ebron last year in lieu of trading up, it's a necessity to look at what they might be able to draft this year. First and foremost addressing needs, I would say the top need for the Bills is definitely offensive guard. It is a need right now, without any consideration of what might happen in free agency. There's not a guard in college football right now that is even grading out to first round talent. By most boards, the first guard off the board is at pick 40 or so. If you were to concede that EJ Manuel is not the answer, which I will do simply for this discussion, Buffalo is not drafting Mariota or Winston with the 19th pick. They're both gone by then and the Bills could then reach significantly at 19 for any of the guys that remain. I do not see the value at that draft pick for quarterback. If you jump to the conclusion that Spiller and Jackson are both gone, you might see a need at running back. That's where it gets interesting to me. The top RB on most boards right now is Melvin Gordon and most scouts have him between 15th-25th in the first round. This situation is sort of my own personal nightmare of sorts. Given that both Spiller and Jackson were going to be free agents this year and that this was known last year, it would suck to be without them and watch Gordon fall past the 19th pick. That, and knowing that the Bills could have drafted Beckham, Evans or Ebron last year instead. If the Bills keep Spiller or Jackson, I think the point is somewhat moot.
  16. There's no way Ryan hitches his wagon to Sanchez. Talk about a way to kill your career. Go get they guy you had before that you couldn't win with such that you go out and replace that guy with a draft pick that also sucks and a washed vet to back him up. LOL.
  17. I was iffy on the Ryan signing until I saw Roman as the OC. This guy knows exactly what to do in a situation where a team has a great defense, but doesn't have a top notch offense. He runs the football. With that said, I'm a bit concerned about the Bills RB situation. Both Spiller and Jackson hit the market as free agents. That means we're going into the draft with just Boobie Dixon and Bryce Brown at RB. Not super excited yet about the RB situation.
  18. I would agree with this statement 100%. Bills have a serious need for better Guard play on the OL. I've always thought as well that Scott Chandler didn't get enough credit, but his drops this season have me over it. We need a guy that can be more clutch at TE and we just don't have that.
  19. I would take Jeremy Langford in the 3rd or 4th round before trading up for Gurley. Buffalo cannot afford to squander more picks away on a prayer that the kid will fully recover.
  20. My question is why does anyone care with Rich Cimini thinks about who the Bills hired? It's funny how Cimini was all over Ryan's jock 6 months ago, and now he has this big negative nancy article. He's just a mouthpiece for the Jets and when he's not busy talking about them, he's probably using that mouthpiece for something/someone else.
  21. I think the OP may just play a little bit too much Madden in career mode. The notion that the Bills should trade arguably their best player and a perennial pro-bowler for a draft pick is ludicrous. I understand the desire to have a quarterback not named EJ Manuel. I don't agree with that necessarily, but trading up to draft a QB in one of the weakest QB draft classes in the last 20 years has "moron" written all over it. I'm a big fan of Marcus Mariota, but he's not the next coming of Andrew Luck or Peyton Manning. Winston has better pocket presence than Mariota, but he absolutely crumbled against the ducks. He's a mental midget to boot that has too much off the field baggage. From the pellet guns, to allegations of rape, to stealing crab legs and Burger King, the kid isn't right in the head, and certainly not worthy of trying to trade up to get him. Based on the games I've watched, Dareus is the key to the defense. I wouldn't even consider trading him for a veteran QB like Cutler. In terms of Suh, I really don't get the attraction. He's a really talented player no doubt, but I don't think he's better than Dareus. Plus, Dareus is under contract through this season. Suh is either going to get the franchise tag for $26.7 million from Detroit or more likely negotiate a huge payday (think $100+ million with $40 million guaranteed) either back with the Lions or with a new team. Dareus is only 24 years old compared to Suh at 28 to boot. Sorry, but I would keep Dareus all day. Last and maybe the most important point here is that EJ has a grand total of 14 starts in his career. Are we essentially ready to trade one star college quarterback for another that played in the exact same system for the same coach on the same team? My guess is that if Ryan can live with the likes of Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith, that he's probably going to give EJ this next year to see what he can do. After that, gloves will be off.
  22. I'm so tired with the "bring in a vet to compete" arguments. Why don't we just say to bring in a vet to compete with all 50+ players? We are not FN stupid! Do we have guys that want to win or not? Do we have guys that need development? Sure. The OP missed here. Sorry for those that disagree, but please have a reality check.
  23. Schwartz "may" remain? IMO, he must remain and his system shouldn't be anything more than tweaked. There's not a ton of situations where a team sports a top-5 defense while the offense is in the bottom 33% in the NFL. The Bills already had what they needed on defense. If Schwartz does not stay, we're looking at more of the same as we've had. Rebuilding.
  24. I don't have a problem with scratches for Goodwin, Kouandjio, Brown and Williams. None of them are or appear like they will ever be players that make or break a Bills season. In terms of Kouandjio and refusing to start him at Guard, I am not sure why anyone would have an issue here. What he's shown me so far is that he's slow, clumsy, and inadequate reacting to pass rushers. He hasn't been able to do anything even in practice to suggest that he should be on the field. I think it has less to do with being stubborn and more to do with trying to make sure that their quarterback doesn't get killed. In terms of not playing EJ versus the Patriots, that's where I have a problem with Marrone. Let's be honest at this point in the fact that he played Orton because he did think that was his best option to get a win. Let's also be honest though that getting the win pretty much wrapped into his plan to bail on the team. For all the other guys you reference, they are pretty much a tangent. They are not the future of the team and there's pretty much no chance that they supplant any of the starters. IMO, EJ is the only one that is different. Is he the future or not? If the team came out and said tomorrow that they're trading for Jay Cutler or another veteran QB, I wouldn't have a problem benching EJ as well. The problem is that they haven't.
  25. Almost 1,000 yards receiving and 6 TD's in his rookie season with Kyle freaking Orton throwing him the ball. I don't have a problem with that at all. Of course we can view everything from a revisionist perspective here and say he didn't have the value of a Beckham or Evans, but can anyone really say that that's a fact? The reality here is that we have no idea. Watkins put up his numbers with some nagging injuries during the season that these other guys didn't have to deal with. The young man has the potential to really be something special. I for one, am glad that the Bills just went ahead and got the guy they wanted. He did cost a lot to this team, but honestly, I don't really care all that much. He's the best receiver this team has had in a long long time.
