So far, treading water in FA and trade aquisitions
Luxy312 replied to All I Need is Hope's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OP - put down the beer. You're drunk. You were fine saying Cassel for Orton was a slight gain. Could be a slight loss too, but I would essentially call it a wash. They're pretty much identical journeymen with comparable production over their careers. McCoy and Alonso are not interchangeable. McCoy is the best running back to suit up for this team since Thurman Thomas. His comparable is not Alonso, but CJ Spiller. He's head and shoulders/MILES better than anything Spiller has done. As for Alonso, he had one good year in 2013 and didn't play a down last season. Maybe it's just me, but I think that the Bills defense could be even better than the Bruce Smith era defenses given the changes to rules on contact, etc. Alonso may have made no measurable difference over what Preston Brown was able to contribute. We'll never know, but that's the right comparison. Incognito is without a doubt an upgrade over what we had at his position last year. Would you really say that Urbik and/or Pears were better? His comparable is not a guy filling in at safety in Searcy. Duke Williams may not be quite as good as Searcy, but Searcy didn't have earth shattering production anyway. In terms of Felton, Adrian Peterson ran for almost 2,100 yards running behind him. You "suppose" a plus? I honestly hope that you WERE drunk. This offseason has been insanely good. Anything they do from here would just be gravy. -
Boston radio guys are freaking idiots. While it was just one season, Brett Favre anyone? Vinny Testaverde had almost 30,000 more yards passing in his career than Pennington. I would even argue that Bledsoe was better, albeit only 3 years with the Bills post whiner.

If there was ever a year not to have a first rounder ...
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To call this draft board a pipe dream is an understatement. Every player on here right now is projected to go 20 or more picks BEFORE the Bills pick in that respective round. 50th pick for Green-Beckham? HAH. Projected to be a late first round pick (24th on the board I saw). 178th pick for Heuerman? They wouldn't get him for that, the 172nd or the 147th if he goes where he is supposed to at around 130th. Sure some guys will slide out of where they should, but all of them? It's a joke. -

I agree this is a good year to not have a first round pick and still like the trade up to get Sammy Watkins. I think he's the real deal. But if you assume every thing else remains the same, can you say you would really rather have Sammy Watkins than some of the other alternatives? Odell Beckam or Kelvin Benjamin from last years draft (picked after Buffalo's pick) + Landon Collins (SS), Maxx Williams (TE), Kevin Johnson (CB), TJ Clemons (OT), or Ereck Flowers (OT)? Unless you jump to the assumption that the Bills record would have been worse than 9-7 last year, those are the guys sitting right around that 19th pick that they don't have, and certainly won't be there in the 2nd round. As one of the posters said (and I agree), this was a good calculated risk by the front office last season. There just isn't a boatload of value early in the draft. Buffalo can still land a very good player in round 2 that will fill a need. -
The two youngsters S.Charles and C.Bryant had 4.5 sacks last year in mostly relief time for Dareus and Williams. Now, we really didn't see what they could do starting full time. I'll give you that, but don't believe that's a reason to go out and pay another DT $5 million+ a year. The only point I would do that would be if Dareus suffers as bad injury. They have Jeremy Towns as well, but I haven't seen him play.
-
No to Randy Starks. Bills have plenty of depth at DT and one of the best defensive lines in football, if not the best. Would be a pointless signing. They should prioritize Clay and another offensive lineman.

What about Arie Kouandjio? Older brother to Cyrus actually and will be in the draft this year.

WR Percy Harvin's first visit is with Bills

Madden 25 pipe dream. $18.75 million. Bills don't have that cap room anymore. -
I think it's meth.

QB Sam Bradford traded for QB Nick Foles
Luxy312 replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This folks. Do some deep thinking here. Teams drafting 1-2 both need quarterback. Why would they even consider trading out of the spot for Bradford, who's been hurt two years in a row and prone to injury? Bradford is Chip Kelly's consolation prize to what could have been a move. Chip's OC WAS Bradford's OC. You are correct Hopeful, and you saw a lot by looking. Old expression, but completely plays itself out here. -
QB Sam Bradford traded for QB Nick Foles
Luxy312 replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Based on what he's done so far, Kelly thinks that his Oregon system will work in the NFL. 9 guys on the team already from Oregon. Bradford from Oklahoma, but ran same type of system in college. Tampa Bay and now Tennessee (Locker retired) both need QB's, so not sure how Phily gets up there if that's their intent. -
4 years in the NFL and he realized that he had neither the ability nor the team around him to do squat in the playoffs, assuming that he could have even gotten there.

Jahri Evans - Pro Bowl Guard from Saints
Luxy312 replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We can thank the Saints front office. They spent money with the hopes of winning a Superbowl, but now have the remnants of some big contracts that they'll have to unload. Not very smart on their part. Saints in full blown rebuilding mode it seems. I would take Jahri Evans for the right price. -
Bills can win Superbowl with EJ
Luxy312 replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's really only one of two ways that the Bills win a Superbowl with EJ as the starter. The first way is easy and everyone knows that he has to play better than what he has played so far. By better, I basically mean being in the top dozen performers at his position in the league. Every quarterback that has been on a team that has won a Superbowl in the last 25 years is or will be in the Hall of Fame except Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson. Let's not forget though that Brad Johnson was the league MVP the year he won his. Dilfer we all know was the benefactor of perhaps the best defense to play the game. That leads me to the second way they can do it and that is for the Bills defense to play even better than they already have for the last two years. The last two years the Bills have had the best defense in the history of the team. The idea that they'll be even better has me doubtful that they can do it that way. -
Vikings FB Jerome Felton -update:Bills signed
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Felton is a monster. Love this add. -
When all is said, Matt Cassel is basically Kyle Orton 2.0 folks. They're both 6-4 230ish pocket passers. They both have career completion around 59-60%. TD/INT ratio is almost identical at 101/69 and 96/70. Yards per completion nearly the same at 11.2 and 11.3. To a degree, it makes me wonder if the Bills told Orton that EJ was going to get his shot at being a starter this season. It would explain his retirement and just not wanting to go through the camp, preseason, etc., and possibly not be the starter. Maybe Matt Cassel sees this as his last chance of being a starter. He will earn almost $5 million for his one year of service this year. With that said, if he's the week 1 starter, I don't think the Bills are any better off at QB than they were last year with Orton at the helm. They're better off at RB of course, but even McCoy is a TBD considering the offensive line.

Good, because when I read that, it made me throw up in my mouth a little bit. -

See article. Clearly says Miami used transition tag AND that it would cost Buffalo two first round picks. I wasn't crazy folks! http://buffalowdown.com/2015/03/09/buffalo-bills-rumors-bills-make-offer-charles-clay/ -

Luxy312 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've seen the rumors on Clay, but personally don't understand why. Given that the Dolphins put the transition tag on him, Buffalo would have to give Miami two first round picks if they offered a better contract for him. That IMO is far too much for a guy that can't even stay healthy and on the field. -
After signing Hughes, how are we gonna keep Dareus??

I try and suck the fun out, when the thread sucks. LOL. -

More than half of the time when I see posts like the OP, I wonder if they live in a bubble. Let's use McCoy as an example. Immediately after the trade, McCoy would count $10.25 million against the Bills cap this year. $1.00 million of that was guaranteed money, with the rest paid unless he was cut. Obviously highly unlikely. None the less, his cap hit before the new contract was essentially projected at what he would have been paid at $10.25 million. Now he signs a new deal for 5 years and over $40 million. $13.125 million signing bonus and guaranteed salary in 2015 of $2.625. If he meets his workout goals, he can make $16.0 million this year. Yet due to the way it is structured, the most he'll count against the cap for 2015 is $5.5 million. That's almost $5.0 million LESS than he counted before. In terms of Dareus, he counts $8.0 million against the cap this year. If he were structured like Suh is with Miami, the Bills would need another $8.0 million in cap space. Notwithstanding the fact that they have that space NOW, the cap is projected to grow by $10 million more in EACH of next two years. So if we lived in a complete vacuum and assumed that everything was going to remain exactly as it is right now, maybe I would be concerned about next year and resigning Dareus and Gilmore. I don't live in a bubble though, so I'm not. -
Cyrus Kouandjio not wasting any time prepping for 2015
Luxy312 replied to stevewin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As much as we want to talk about Kouandjio being a bust last year, what's not to like about his attitude going into the offseason? One week removed from the season and he decides he's going to go work 6 days a week on being a better lineman. Honestly, this is exactly what I would want to see out of a young guy that didn't live up to his 2nd round pick value. -
I thought about Suh as well, but a good friend of mine pointed out that it's highly unlikely that the team will put $50-$60 million of our cap spend in the defensive line. That's really what they would have to do to get Suh and keep Dareus. To boot, the Bills D-line is already a force. How much better can they really be? In terms of Kyle Williams, I personally think he has more value playing for the Bills than he would trying to trade him. That would be kind of a pointless move IMO.
