I have a couple of serious logic problems with some of the responses from the peanut gallery. I appreciate the responses, as I didn't expect this discussion to get much traction. But we still have to address the logical fallacy perpetrated by some. #1 - Sammy Watkins was rated THE top prospect at WR with Mike Evans a close second. Despite being perceived to be a deep draft at WR, those two were the defacto 1-2. After them, there was quite a few guys in the next tier, including Benjamin, OBJ, and others. #2 - Looking at OBJ last year and what he did and saying he should have been the Bills pick is revisionist history. It's like saying that the Raiders should have taken traded out of their 5th pick where they took Khalil Mack and taken C.J. Mosely with a a mid first rounder (actually picked 17th). Mosely did have better numbers last year, but when it comes to pre-draft rankings, was not in the same conversation as Mack. Same with Sammy and OBJ. #3 - There was no TE besides Ebron that was projected to be a first round pick. There was no TE even rated close in terms of NFL potential. That is why the Bills would have chosen him with their pick in lieu of one of the "other" WR's not named Watkins or Evans. The perception going into the draft last year was that Buffalo could get one of those "other" guys in a later round, but certainly not an Ebron. It comes back to the analogy some have made about Tom Brady. It's nice to see just how much value that the Patriots go where they got him. Suggesting however that one of the other 31 teams front offices "should have known" is ridiculous. What we can do as we sit here today though is speculate with some amount of certainty. We would not be paying huge $$$ for Clay if we had drafted Ebron last year. Maybe we would pay for another free agent WR. Is Ebron + whomever that would be a better option than Clay and Watkins? Would there be a player at #19 + a free agent + Ebron that would be better for us than what they did?

Wow. Casserly lost it.

So here's some interesting information about the Bills that I wasn't aware of. In the last dozen drafts, the Bills first draft selection has been a player that was scheduled for and had a visit with the team. Not all worked out, but they did visit. Out of a possible 30 visitors, the Bills only had 12 kids this year visit and/or workout for them. Keeping in mind that the Bills have picks 50, 81, 155, 188, 194, and 234; here's the list of visitors. I've included the CBS Sports prospect ranking as anecdotal information/food for thought and ranked them from highest to lowest. 1 - Byron Jones (CB/S) - 20 2 - Nelson Agholor (WR) - 34 3 - Carl Davis (DT/NT/DE) - 53 4 - Nate Orchard (DE/LB) - 69 5 - Bryce Petty (QB) - 73 6 - Garrett Grayson (QB) - 95 7 - John Miller (OG) - 113 8 - Karlos Williams (RB) - 181 9 - Chaz Green (OT) - 191 10 - Jamon Brown (OT) - 264 11 - Darius Kilgo (DT) - 330 12 - Chris Dunkly (WR/CB) - 958 Should history hold true and they draft one of the guys above, that will be 13 years in a row. Oh and Whaley did say they needed depth at defensive back, so Byron Jones may just be a pipe dream.

Exploring that angle a little then, would you rather have Ebron & Crabtree? I can't say I see a FA wideout that pairs better with Ebron than Watkins/Clay. Just curious.

Does anyone actually care if he can or not? He CAN play LT. That position is vastly more important. CAN he play TE? I care about that almost as much. LOL.

If La'el Collins drops do Bills take him?
Luxy312 replied to ALLEN1QB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Still ranked in the top-20 on every draft board I've looked at. Pretty much a pipe dream that he would fall all the way to 50 without significant new information coming to the table. -
Most boards have 8-9 OT's coming off the board prior to the Bills pick at #50, and Fisher is definitely one of them. In fact, on many boards, he's the top 4th or 5th prospect at the position. To boot, I don't see Glenn moving to the inside. He's been more than serviceable playing LT and I think that the team will be looking for continuity over what's been an endless shuffle of positions resulting in terrible continuity for the team. The more likely scenario IMO is the Bills drafting the 1st or 2nd rated guard in the draft. They're both ranking out right about there at #50-60 to boot.

I've seen articles about the subject, but was not able to find a thread. But the articles raise the question of whether the Bills trade for Sammy Watkins was worth it. They obviously gave their first last year and now the #19 this year. So here's my take on the subject. I want to first get something very straight. The Bills had only two wide receivers that they would have taken at #9 last year, and that's Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans. There's no way anyone could convince me that Sammy wouldn't have gone early had the Bills not traded up to get him, nor that Tampa Bay had their sites set firmly on Mike Evans. Given that fact set, the Bills wouldn't have reached for the third best WR on the board in Odell Beckham, Jr. over the unilateral best TE in the draft class. So instead of Sammy Watkins, they would have likely picked Eric Ebron. You might say they would have taken a tackle at that point, but that would be based on hindsight that our offensive line wasn't good last year and that Chris Williams didn't turn out as good as expected. So what would that have meant for this year assuming everything else is a constant? First, there would be zero reason to go get Clay in free agency. After all, Ebron is your guy of the future. He can't block worth a damn, but he looks like a decent TE at times. So at #19, they probably would have been looking at the 4th or 5th best WR in this years draft class. Best case scenario Green-Beckham slides to them and worst (and more likely) scenario is they have to reach for a Phillip Dorsett or Nelson Agholor. Personally, I would rather have Watkins/Clay than the alternative. The Bills in free agency have effectively rendered the 19th pick useless to them by virtue of the trade last year for Sammy. Thoughts?

I will be at the draft, in Grant Park here in Chicago watching it unfold live!

Joe Namath adds to Rex Ryan criticism

Namath is an idiot. Talking about the coaching styles of Don Shula and Tom Landry like it would work well today. -
Browns seem done with Johnny Manziel; enters rehab
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. Just no. Over hyped to say the least. His accuracy after 3-5 yards is terrible and he makes terrible decisions to boot. His "raw" ability is pretty much rancid raw. You throw it away and move on because it stinks. BTW, you don't just "leave a kid alone" in the NFL. They're all under scrutiny because they make millions. Man up and realize that. -

Dareus appears interested to stay in Buffalo
Luxy312 replied to Drreef2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's good to see him say the politically correct thing here. None the less, why wouldn't he want to stay in Buffalo? This defense has to be top-3 in the NFL. Dareus enjoys unrivaled protection from getting to play with Mario, Kevin and Jerry. Put him on a lot of other teams and he wouldn't look so good getting double and triple teamed on every play. As the poster above me said, it has nothing to do with the money and everything to do with whether they can fit him under the cap. -
OH NO! I guess the Bills are going to have to bring extra sunscreen.

Aaron Hernandez Trial---*Guilty*

They especially suck when a preponderance of the produced exhibits and evidence points to the defendant being guilty. I'm almost 100% certain he's going to jail. -
Article - "Ryan talks a good game, but will wins follow?"
Luxy312 replied to webtoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The questions of whether wins will follow is fair. As a HC, Rex has only had two teams with a record above 0.500 and that was 5 and 6 years ago respectively. Those teams both had top-3 defenses in the NFL and focused on running the football. Let's not forget that when the Jets were decent that Brian Schottenheimer was the OC. For the last couple of years, it's been Marty Mornhinwheg. Not a very good OC. The best running back they've been able to put on the field during Rex at HC was Thomas Jones, and that was awhile ago too. So now, he has Greg Roman running the offense. Under him, SF was top-5 rushing every year. Add McCoy, who's arguably top-3 at his position, and I see the Bills in somewhat of a perfect storm situation. Buffalo was 9th in the NFL last year in pass attempts and 20th in rushing attempts. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Buffalo will be top-3 in rushing attempts this year and in the bottom third of the NFL in passing. In terms of wins, I think they follow if the offensive line is truly better in run blocking. I think by virtue of adding Incognito, Clay, and Shelton; that they are. -
NFL hires first female official
Luxy312 replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The NFL handled this EXACTLY how they should have handled it. They announced the hiring of 9 new first year officials which included her. They didn't make it into a media spectacle. I'll be most interested in the player response on the field. I imagine some will be sexist a-holes. As long as she does a good job, good for the NFL. -
Rumor: Eagles trying to trade Bradford for Manziel

Did April Fools day get moved to the 8th? In all seriousness, Chip Kelly will be one and done in Phily the way he's going. That team looks like a mess. -
In my opinion, the discussion of any of the quarterbacks after Winston and Mariota are pointless. Given where the Bills are drafting, you could make an argument that discussion of them is completely pointless as well. Is there any real difference between Bryce Petty or Garrett Grayson? Do I want to see the Bills overdraft a quarterback with a 2nd round pick that should be selected in the 3rd or 4th round? No way. I've been done with caring about what Gruden has to say for a long time. He's been more wrong than right. If the Bills are going to carry 4 QB's into this season (which for the record, I don't believe they will), I would rather have a Tyler Heinicke for their last pick in the draft or even as a UFA. I don't see much of a measurable difference between the likes of him and Petty.

FSU CB PJ Williams could fall in draft with DUI
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Two things here. Even with the DUI, I don't see this kid falling out of the top-50, so I'll just disagree with the prior poster there. Most of the experts (self-proclaimed) have him going late in the first round. Second, Bills have almost no need for a cornerback. Other positions of much greater need would dictate a different pick, even if this guy were to slide. -
A "highly touted" fourth round draft pick? LMAO. Good one.
