Predictions for the first 4 games of the season
Luxy312 replied to TSOL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Taking each game individually: Indianapolis has started notoriously slow in each of the first three seasons for Andrew Luck. In fact in three years, their only opening day win was at home. They lost both away games @ Chicago and @ Denver. In fact, in the first collective 9 games over the three years, they went 5-4. That seems crazy considering that each year they finished 11-5. Coming into Buffalo given expectations there is going to be crazy. I think the Bills defense wins the game for them at home. New England will (at least for now) be visiting the Bills at home in their second game of the season and their second game without Tom Brady. Once again, I think our defense is going to be way too much for the Patriots to handle. Is Jimmy G. going to be ready for our pass rush? I say another win for the Bills. Miami on the road will be a test for sure. The addition of Suh makes the Miami defense a real threat, particularly if we're putting our statue under center for the game. I would like to bill-eve that they will be ready for this game, but this is Miami's home opener. I hate to pick a loss here as well, but am going to. NY Giants at home is the 3rd of 4 games at home. Giants were 3 and 5 on the road last year and comes to Buffalo with a suspect defense. Their offense was pretty good last year, but the Bills defense has improved from where they were last year when they handled better bigger brother Peyton. So I have the Bills winning here again to start the season 3-1. At this point I have New England at 2-2, the Jets at 1-3 and Miami at 4-0. -
There's really only one case that you can make for Cassel, and that is that neither E.J. nor Tyrod are ready to manage the offense. All things being equal, can the Bills really afford to start a guy that will be completely predictable in terms of his skill set, and not a long term solution for the team? I have a hard time advocating Cassel personally. Whether it's E.J. or Tyrod, I really don't honestly care. I just hope that we're not playing that same QB rotation that we played when we had Doug Flutie. That would be a team continuity disaster.
-
No. I want a team that's sustainable over the longer term. Would the Patriots gladly trade one deep run at the playoffs for the success that they've experienced over the last decade? Of course not. Remember when Kansas City tried this with Joe Montana in the 1990's? It didn't work. Most of the time, the teams that stay great have a good starting roster and a quarterback that gels with the team. A one and done solves nothing except possibly having to rebuild the team all over again.
-
Maybe it's just me, but I want to see the next franchise guy on this team. I'm sick and tired of the retreads. Would Peyton Manning give the Bills a chance at a deep run in the playoffs? Sure he would. Is there a guarantee that it gets us to the Superbowl? Of course not. Manning has had extremely talented teams in the past with Denver and Indy and wasn't a lock for the Superbowl. Give me the next Jim Kelly instead. If that's Tyrod, then so be it. If it's EJ, so be it. If it's someone else, then I hope the Bills get out there and draft them.

Rex Ryan in the Madden 16 Commercial

This might be the most abstract Madden ad that I've ever seen. None the less, it's pretty damned funny! -
It's gotta be Roman who makes the QB call, right?
Luxy312 replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Roman is the OC and it's Roman's system that they'll be running. I would think that Rex would rely on his judgement for determining who's the best candidate to be running his offense. If Roman were simply a puppet (which he's not), then I would certainly say Rex should make the call, but that's not the case here. -
Over: Eric Wood. He's just not the same guy that he was prior to his injury. He gets blown off the line far too often and gets paid WAY too much money to be one of the worst centers in the NFL. Under: Preston Brown. Quietly came in as a rookie and absolutely owned the linebacker position. He's a flat out stud and may be the best linebacker that the team has.

After watching the video, I think I get what CC was trying to say. I think the crux of his statement is that if you as a player are going to insist on running around with idiots (i.e. a "crew") that someone in that group is taking the responsibility/blame if stupid things happen. Sadly though the Teddy Bridgewater, Inc. analogy will be missed by many young NFL players. CC gives a lecture like a monkey trying to peel a banana with a tack hammer, but he's actually not an idiot.

I think you're giving credit where credit is NOT due. The simple reality is that under the previous ownership, the Bills were allowed to follow the "cash to cap" concept financially. Essentially, they could pay the collective team substantially less than the salary cap and get away with it. The new CBA though makes it mandatory for teams to spend to a certain percentage of the salary cap. I think at this point that the figure is somewhere in the 98% range. What that means is that owners can either pay the players to that figure OR pay the NFL as a penalty. At the end of the day, it's not the mentality of ownership that has really changed, but the rules. If RW were still alive, he would still be spending the same 98% one way or the other. What exactly is the incentive to pay a fine over paying for players? Nothing.

is Ray Rice coming to Buffalo for a look-see?
Luxy312 replied to HankBulloughMellencamp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is just patently false. Rice got a pre-trial intervention which required him to participate in anger management counseling and be on probation for a period of time. This isn't at all uncommon. What actually is uncommon is that this was a pre-trial intervention involving a violent crime. But, once again, we have the exception to the rule, when Rice's fiance is the one begging the court for leniency. As for punishment by the NFL, he was cut by the Ravens and didn't see a football field for a year. He paid a significant financial price, albeit not a prison sentence. I think what he did is 100% wrong, but don't believe it's responsible to say that he wasn't punished because he was a star in the NFL. He had a stellar legal team that knew how to approach the court system and a fiance that was willing to fight for him to keep him out of jail. -
Bring Back Spikes--edit signed with ne***
Luxy312 replied to billsgpr88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is the real question. We can talk about "bringing him back" all we want because of the Powell injury, but if he's suspended for the first 2-4 games of the season, it would be pointless. The Bills in all likelihood (from what I've read about the Powell injury) need someone now. -
Ok, I give up -- EJ will be 3rd string or cut
Luxy312 replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My two cents on this topic. I don't see EJ being cut. He is not separating himself from the other two, which suggests that maybe he just isn't starter material. Cassel isn't going anywhere either. The Bills front office isn't going to release him "just to give him a chance to be a starter" somewhere else. That type of mentality is short bus material. Taylor is not so much Ryan's guy, but Roman's guy. Let's not forget just how much Roman did with Kaepernick in San Francisco. At this point, Taylor is the closest thing to Kaepernick on the Bills roster. I really wanted EJ to have the opportunity to grow into our guy. At this point, I'm just not seeing it. -

Arian Foster says "I don't believe in God"
Luxy312 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't get aggravated. I stick to logical thought. Evolution explains humanity just fine, not some magical mystical being IMO. Wrong. Time and energy would certainly be wasted. I have no more need to consult a Christian on the existence of God than I need to consult someone that believes they've been abducted by aliens on mysteries of the universe. It's a complete logical fallacy that one needs to have a discussion about any religion in order to justify its existence. Not that it's any of your business, but there are people in your life that follow your brand of religion, and even lead discussion groups at their church. There's also people that follow other brands and believe that Jesus Christ was just a man. I'll stick to science, logic and reasoning over any brand of mysticism when it comes down to the realities of the world. While there's 5 major religions in the world, there's a total of over 4,000. To say one is right is to say that the others are wrong, which I find a preposterous concept. More preposterous in fact than the possibility of alien abduction. -
I don't think there's any doubt that he's HOF material. Although I do think though it will take him a couple of years to do it, much like it took Andre Reed.
-
This is a great point. Going back and looking at the last 3 years collectively, only Blake Bortles has more yards lost to sacks than Tannehill. I wouldn't have guessed that that would be the case.
-
I think this is about as accurate of an observation that can be made. They're both around 50 YPG for the games they've played, with Harvin being slightly higher. That completely ignores the fact that Harvin is a very accomplished kick returner as well and also takes some carries as a runner. Certainly a more multi-dimensional threat.

Matt Flynn signs with Pats*, update - Cut
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Foles was mediocre last year at best. You can point to the year before that, but you would be making a huge assumptions that he's going to look like that going forward. Even with that, you're looking at inflated numbers due to the fact he was operating in Chip Kelly's pass happy offense. So based on last year, I would say exactly that. Foles isn't a measurable improvement at all. Even putting all that aside, you're not being at all realistic in terms of his availability. The Eagles were looking for a signal caller to be the starter when they put Foles on the market. What is it you think the Bills could have offered them that would have been more enticing than Bradford? I'm not buying into the possibility of getting Foles as anything more than a Madden game pipe dream. As far as your 2014 draft guys, they've all been just as terrible. Mettenburger is a hot steaming pile of garbage. -
Matt Flynn signs with Pats*, update - Cut
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is always the question of the day and it never gets answered. By taking EJ, did the Bills really miss out on Geno Smith or Matt Barkley? How about Brandon Weedon, Brock Osweiler, Blaine Gabbert or Christian Ponder? What about Garrett Grayson or Sean Mannion this year? Sorry, but I'm just not buying it. At the end of the day, the opportunity really hasn't been there in the draft. Putting that aside, who's the free agent we missed on? The reality is that in the last 5 years or so, there hasn't been a "can't miss" guy for Buffalo to go after. If a Phillip Rivers hits the market, we would have something to talk about. He isn't though, so it's just a pipe dream. There's certainly journeymen that have found their way from one team to another (Foles & Bradford), but I wouldn't say either of those guys would be any better answer than what we have. -
I'm not really sure they upgraded. Landry had a good first season and honestly, he's no different than Sammy Watkins. Both were rookies last year and should have better second seasons. Stills effectively replaces Mike Wallace as a deep threat. While Greg Jennings has the name, he's not the same guy at going on 32 years of age. Clay was a big part of the offense last year for Miami, so honestly I think he's the biggest loss for the fish. Tannehill had a good year last year though. It's hard not to say that the Dolphins have improved. Suh is a huge addition. Provided he doesn't stomp on anyone's face and get himself suspended, they no doubt improved their team. Lamar Miller is a nice young running back as well. 5.1 YPC with 1,000+ yards rushing last year. Now all that said, I look at what each team did last year compared to what they're projected to do this year. Miami was 8-8. Their over/under in Vegas for wins this season right now is at 9.0. While the Bills were 9-7, I think most would assume that if the Patriots needed that last game, we would have gone 8-8. Their over/under is 8.5. While that's respectable, I'm not sure I am buying that the Dolphins improved their team MORE than Buffalo did theirs.

Big fan of this post as I completely forgot about Sam Gash. He was pretty good with his time on the team. At the end of the day, I hope Felton provides the spark to lift this team out of mediocrity.

Who will start at QB - Training Camp Edition
Luxy312 replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
2/3 don't believe EJ will be starting; 2/3 don't believe that Cassel will be starting and 2/3 don't believe that Taylor will be starting. OK. I guess that's a vote of confidence for each of these "greats". -
Arian Foster says "I don't believe in God"
Luxy312 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good for Arian Foster! He touches on the theme often espoused by Stephen Fry (well known atheist) that I've come to identify with more than not. Human suffering in the world is vast. Starvation, murder, war, and disease are just a few things that take countless lives, including many children. He postulates that if a god did create the universe that he/she/it is an utter maniac. Why would anyone follow a being that allows so much injustice and pain? For me, it comes down to how delusional you want to be. Whichever "figure" you pick is essentially just a figure of your imagination.
