So Is Dareus' suspension still in force?
Luxy312 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just found that too. It was synthetic weed. None the less, if that's not specifically on the list of banned substances, he would have the same argument of lack of advanced notice. Fun to think about how the players are going to go after the NFL for this judge's gaffe. -
So Is Dareus' suspension still in force?
Luxy312 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Folks, I said this in another thread. There are going to by a myriad of challenges now made by players arguing that their suspension is in direct violation of the CBA. Dareus included. Basically, anything for which there isn't otherwise a precedent. Drug suspensions will remain of course, but for everything else, it's going to be a disaster. -
At the end of the day, the NFL screwed this up. They did this to themselves. I think about it like this. Goodell and his boys spent $5 million investigating whether deflation of footballs happened and to make a determination as to whether Tom Brady knew about it or now. Based on that report, they handed out the 4 game suspension. What SHOULD have happened is that the report was still released, but the penalty should have been based on Tom Brady's destruction of potential evidence (cell phone/text messages) and obstructing the investigation. Tell me that it goes down the same way with the judge if the position of the front office is that he's being suspended for obstruction in lieu of being suspended for purposely cheating.

LMAO.....that will be my next avatar.

I actually wondered if this was the reason the Bills were holding onto both Felton and Connor. Either of those guys are vastly better "road pavers" than any WR on the roster. Personally, I wouldn't want to risk Sammy to injury for the sole purpose of putting him in to block on a play. That would be careless coaching. I do think they'll keep two TE's on the roster none the less in addition to two FB's.
-
The two salient points made by the judge are as follows: Tom Brady didn't know he could be suspended for under inflating footballs. Tom Brady's people were not permitted access to talk to the report writer. By this logic, I think Marcel Dareus should IMMEDIATELY file with the NFL to have his suspension vacated. He didn't know he could be suspended for racing/driving like an idiot.

No. Appeals process could take months. Any actual suspension would happen either later in the season or potentially the post season.

NFL.com: Ceiling and Floor for each AFC Team
Luxy312 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's no way that I buy 10-6 as the ceiling. There's a real possibility that the Bills can start 9-0 if they are able to win the game in Miami in week 3. I peg their upside at around 12-4. They split with the Dolphins and Patriots, drop the game @ Phily and then lose another game that they shouldn't lose on the road. Tyrod would need to fail on an epic scale for them to end up at 6-10. I just don't see that happening. -
Edit: now confirmed rumor that Bills will release Cassel
Luxy312 replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They're pretty close when it comes right down to it. Kyle Orton's 59.5% career completion percentage compared to Cassel's 59.0%. QB rating of 81.2 compared to 80.1. Orton was marginally better, but it's not like we're comparing Peyton Manning to Joe Flacco. -

ESPN: Some doubt LeSean McCoy will be ready for opener

Karlos is running at full speed in practice, so not sure why he wouldn't be. -
ESPN: Some doubt LeSean McCoy will be ready for opener
Luxy312 replied to johnwalter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The reports thus far are a mixed bag. Coaching staff are saying they don't know if he'll be at 100% and may be on a "limited pitch count". At the same time, McCoy says he doesn't anticipate missing any time. The Colts run defense isn't anything spectacular so the key for me is Tyrod. If he looks like he did in the preseason, the Bills have a chance to open with a win. If he's shaky at all, Luck could put the Colts up quickly. -
Cost difference of cutting/trading a QB - only 1.35m
Luxy312 replied to VABills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
$4.15m versus $1.20m is the comparison and $2.95m is not chump change as the OP would allude. The Bills are trying right now to free up enough cap space to get the deal done with Dareus. Notwithstanding the notion of cutting EJ, the Bills save $4.15m of this years cap by getting rid of Cassel, if they so choose. Nobody could convince me that that's NOT a decent chunk of money for what amounts to a 3rd string quarterback. -
I could be wrong here, but believe you will see significant safety help on Darby's side during the game, while they ask Gilmore to cover T.Y. man to man.

Fred Jackson expected to sign with Seattle(update-signed)
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For all of those that are bitching and moaning about the fact that Fred Jackson is gone or how he's gone, I ask a simple favor. Dial your memories back to the 1999 Buffalo Bills team. Remember? Thurman Thomas was getting nicked up a bit and they had youngsters Jonathan Linton and Antoine Smith getting the bulk of the carries. Of all teams, Thurman leaves the Bills and goes to the Miami Dolphins. The damned FISH! We are all sitting here like this front office has done something different than any front office in the history of the team. They haven't. Fred was loved by the fans, but I don't think that anyone would say that they appreciated what he did for the team more so than Thurman. We as fans, of course, live in the moment. It's tough to see one of our warriors go. I think though if we put this into the proper context, it's not really all that big of a deal. -
I'm a little concerned, but will be very interested in seeing how he bounces back in the next preseason game. They really need McKelvin back. I suppose if he really struggles, they could go with Robey or Brooks or just slide Graham back over to the #2 position. Guess we will see.

Edit: now confirmed rumor that Bills will release Cassel
Luxy312 replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rex just said that the odds were stacked against Simms making the roster. That, coupled with the prior comments about keeping 3 QBs, tells me that they appear to be keeping all 3. Time will tell of course and we'll know in a couple of days. Just thought I would throw that out there. -
Annual Clipper prediction thread/Oops/Updated!
Luxy312 replied to Clippers of Nfl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While I would love to go 9-0, I think 8-1 is more realistic. Maybe a loss at Miami in their home opener. Make no mistake though that I truly believe that barring major injury that all of the games are winnable. -
Is Greg Roman the next Mike Pettine?
Luxy312 replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think Roman is the next Pettine. At the end of the day, Pettine turned what was an average defense into a top-5 defense in the league. I don't see Roman doing the same. His offenses in San Francisco were consistently average to above average, but certainly not blowing anyone away. Unless Tyrod has a banner year, would a team really want to make "average to above average" their plan for their team? I doubt it. I think Roman could stick around for a couple of years. -
EJ has thrown the most TD passes in the preseason and has looked far better than Cassel. My guess is Cassel gets cut (saving $4.5m in cap space) and Simms goes to the practice squad. It feels like what makes the most sense.

How Does Indy Game Plan for Taylor?
Luxy312 replied to PolishDave's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Indy's game plan for Taylor isn't going to be some secret recipe that we can't predict. It's going to be the same type of game plan that would be in place for Wilson, Kaepernick, Vick, etc. Containment and making the quarterback throw downfield. With that said, Taylor has shown progress in camp and preseason that he's not the same sub 60% passer that he was in his entire college career and Baltimore, prior to the Bills. Hopefully we'll see the same in a couple weeks. I'm pretty sure that Indy is going to give him every opportunity to beat them throwing the football. I expect Indy to go at Darby all day on offense too. He looked pretty terrible against Bryant. -
Age has to be a factor. Personally, I think the Bills are working on their salary cap such that they can get a deal done with Dareus. $2.5m doesn't seem like a lot, but when you're trying to get a deal done in the $17m per year range, it matters. Another factor here is the RB's they already have on the roster. McCoy doesn't need to be mentioned because he's the bell cow. They still have Dixon, Brown and now rookie Karlos Williams. Hill and Wood have all looked serviceable and honestly I don't even see them keeping any more than 4-5. Another factor IMO is consideration. If the Bills had waited until a couple days before the start of the season, I would see that as a jerk move for a guy that's been the face of the franchise. Here, they give him a chance to find the best potential situation for him prior to the start of the season. Classy move. I'm not buying the conspiracy theory arguments. They just don't fly in the face of reality when you put even a little thought to it.

Take the Pledge to Support the Bills' Starting QB
Luxy312 replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
4 games? Sure, if they start 4-0. 8 games? Again, yes if they start 8-0. I have no problem with whomever is starting providing that Buffalo is winning games. If they start 0-2 AND if it's because of sloppy QB play, yank Taylor and start someone else. I would prefer it be EJ if push comes to shove, but fine with Cassel just the same. For the OP, if you're doing a quote within a quote, you use ' with an extra one of those at the end. Grammar police! -
Rappaport is an idiot. I don't know how "EJ seems like the obvious choice". Cassel has clearly been outplayed by both EJ and Taylor in the preseason. To me, Cassel is the obvious choice, assuming that there is a choice that needs to be made.
