Mainstream media does completely ignore it. Google and Bing searches and a bit of research and you can learn the truth about pretty much anything. In terms of who finds what offensive, where do you draw the line? THAT is my point. Should we protest every African American rapper that uses the N-word in their "music"? Some will obviously be offended, so where's the group lining up to take offense? Are you going to join the protest to remove "In God We Trust" from our currency because it offends Muslims? While we're at it, I don't like the Padres name because it's Spanish for priest. Religion has no place in professional sports. Let's also protest the Milwaukee Brewers for those that don't imbibe alcohol. My point is pretty clear here. When American Indians themselves stop using derogatory terms for their sports teams, then maybe there will be something to talk about in terms of professional sports. Until that point in time comes, this is just another media ax to grind.

On paper, this draft does seem like one of the better ones I've seen in my 44 year lifetime. I would otherwise look at the 2001 draft as being pretty darned good. Nate Clements in the first round. Aaron Schobel and Travis Henry in the second. Those are three pretty good starters right there and you could add Jonas Jennings in the third round as well, although his career was limited by injuries. None the less, we're assuming that at least the first three drafted will not only be starters but play at a high level. Dare I say "pro bowl", even though that really doesn't mean much these days? Washington and Ragland will be day 1 starters and there's no doubt that Lawson will be when he gets healthy 4-5 games into the season. Guess we will see what happens.

Folks, there's hundreds of Native American high schools and middle schools that use implied derogatory names for their teams. The media completely ignores this and continues on the path of trying to make a villain out of the Washington Redskins. I'm about 12.5% Five Nations-Seneca Tribe-Waterson Clan and just don't see it. It comes down to context for me, and if you're going to make the Redskins team name a bad thing, then we need to make every rapper using the "N-word" a bad thing as well. Now I don't believe that necessarily either, as again, I think you have to put it everything in context. Redskins, Yankees, Indians, Patriots, Browns, and many other team names can offend someone that puts the name in their own context. Does that mean we should abandon all of sports history in the name of being politically correct for the minority? Sounds pretty stupid to me all around.

SI.com: Is Tyrod Taylor a One-Year Wonder?
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On your #2 point above, we DO know that was part of it. Let's not forget that when they brought him into camp last year that he was playing against the second and third team defense for the Bills for exactly that reason. His first play time against first team defenses in games was the preseason last year. My single biggest fear is that he's not seeing the receivers in the middle of the field and mid-range throws because of his height and where he is positioning himself in the pocket. How about a "saw him one year wonder what year two looks like"? -

It's a 26' yacht.....didn't you hear? -
No need for Hardy. Buffalo still has Manny Lawson and he'll fill the void until the real Lawson is ready to take the field.

Seems like a flake. Cut by the Steelers. Declined opportunities to work out for some teams that asked him to. Signed with the Jets and cut again. Flakey McFlakerson. -
SI.com: Is Tyrod Taylor a One-Year Wonder?
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The article rightly points out that Tyrod had some good numbers throwing the deep ball. I don't have any problems with that and wouldn't even try to disagree or say that he was just plain lucky. Personally, I think there's a couple of things that we need to see from him this year to prove that he isn't a one year wonder. 1 - Less time in the pocket waiting to throw the ball. Using a couple of our prior statues as examples, I believe that Tyrod hangs onto the ball too long before making a decision. As a mobile guy, he either needs to run for positive yards or throw it quicker than he does right now. He was sacked 8.7% of the time. That's significantly higher than Matt Cassel (7.1%) or even Kyle Orton (5.7%) before him. Ideally, he should be around where Cam Newton was last year at 6% or so. 2 - In that same vein of thought, I can't remember one intermediate passing route from last year. If he can't pick up those 8-12 yard slants in the middle of the field and make the throw, teams will figure him out. To get anywhere near the 3.3 TD/INT ratio he had last year throwing the ball, he'll need to expand upon the list of things he can do, which means making these intermediate throws. 3 - I guess this may be related too, but he has two game winning drives against a 3 win Titan team and an 8 win Texans team. Both were because of big plays and not methodically moving down the field. Twice last year, the Patriots took away the big play deep and twice they lost a game they could have won. Jacksonville, Kansas City, and Philadelphia also took care of their games late. Taylor impressed the hell out of me last year, but still does have a lot to prove. Behind some really good numbers lies some issues that need to get fixed to prove that he belongs in the league as a starting quarterback. -
It's easy to say that the RT position was weak for the Bills last season. However, I wouldn't characterize it as a position of "need". Buffalo got 10 starts out of a rookie drafted in the 7th round and had the most effective rushing attack in the NFL. Something needs to be said for continuity and knowing how the guy next to you plays. Assuming he's back, this will be the first time in 20 years, TWENTY years, that the starting offensive line returned from the previous year. Does anyone remember the Dockery/Walker experiment in 2007? They paid boatloads of money for two offensive linemen that were supposed to "upgrade" those positions. Complete and utter failure and a lack of continuity. I'm not saying that Henderson will be great or even good, but continuously fiddling with something before you give it a chance to come together is a mistake.

Sam Bradford Wants Out of Philly; Crawls Back to Eagles
Luxy312 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To a degree, I would argue that this is his last year as a starter in the NFL. Who's going to pay any quarterback like Bradford is getting paid to basically pout like a child when he doesn't get his way? More importantly, who's going to pay a marginal quarterback who's been injured 3 out of 5 years of his NFL career? We will see just how committed he is as the season rolls on. Next year, the Eagles would be on the hook for an additional $17m in total compensation and that's besides the $5.5m of prorated bonus he's already collected. I'm guessing the Eagles pay his $4m guaranteed salary for next year and cut him. Time will tell. -
Just another reason why this is a video game pipe dream.

ON THE CLOCK - INSIDE THE BILLS' DRAFT ROOM
Luxy312 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm going to call BS on this comment for one reason. Did you not watch the video of the Bills war room during the draft? When Jack was picked ahead of where the Bills were in the 2nd round, everyone was cheering and they immediately went to the phones to move up. They almost certainly had Jack lower than Ragland. Heck, Whaley said later that if the right guys would have gone in the first, that they would have picked him there, as he was first round value. At the end of the day also, almost all of the big boards out there had Ragland as a 1st round pick and a 2nd round or later on Jack and Smith because of their injuries. -
Joe Thomas cap hit in 2016 - $9.5 million. Current Bills cap space having not yet even signed our draft picks - $6.3 million. Just another video game pipe dream without any real thought behind it.

Bills Release Jarius Wynn and Two Other Players
Luxy312 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
$1.125m to keep him. $1.000m cap savings to cut him. Wynn going is a good call. -
I hear that Tunsil has turned over a new "leaf".

I'm a big fan of Austin Johnson in this scenario. At the end of the day, Kyle Williams has been hurt for a portion of 3 seasons running. He's not getting younger and the Bills will need a replacement. Johnson is a big bodied guy and could take the middle to move Dareus to the outside. It fits with what they have now and fits with plans for the future.

Sam Bradford Wants Out of Philly; Crawls Back to Eagles
Luxy312 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What's most maddening to me about this whole situation and the media is how much they actually THINK about the ramifications of a deal. Let's put pen to paper, shall we? This year, Bradford has a base salary of $7m (fully guaranteed) and a pro-ration of his bonus of $5.5m for a cap hit of $12.5m. Next year, he has a base salary of $13m, of which $4m is guaranteed. His pro-rated bonus is again another $5.5m and he's eligible for a roster bonus of another $4m. Total cap hit would be $22.5m. IF the Eagles did trade him to Buffalo, there isn't room in the cap to assume his contract. So the Eagles would have to eat the $7m guaranteed base this year, $4m guaranteed base next year, and the entire $11m pro-rated signing bonus. Their hit is then $23m instead of $12.5m. Just STUPID. The Bills are not a realistic trading partner, regardless of asking St. Louis about Bradford 2 years ago. -
I was in the crowd and there were a few sections where there were an inordinate number of Florida State alumni drunk off their asses and acting like idiots. I'm not sure that they even knew why they were booing Goodell. The biggest idiot in the group wasn't even wearing an NFL jersey. He was wearing a Florida State jersey! The best part about draft town is that out of the thousands of dressed up NFL fans that I saw, there was just ONE Patriots fan. I guess when you cheat and ultimately get slapped in the nuts, that you pretty much stay home. LOL.

The single biggest fallacy of the "BPA" arguments is the likelihood that any front office follows this approach without any regard to the players on their roster. Are teams with a sure #1 quarterback really going to evaluate the likes of a Paxton Lynch in a void? Are the Broncos going to stand pat with their dismal QB situation and pick a DT if they have him a point or two higher than Lynch? The simple point that the Bills have a superstar RB in McCoy, a stud second year player in Williams and a 3rd stringer that looked like a hell of a RB with his 50+ carries last year should tell anyone that Derrick Henry is not on the list for round 2. Heck, I'll go out on a limb and say that he's not on the list for round 3. Unless a guy falls so dramatically, such that he's hands down ahead of everyone else on the board, it's BPA qualified as BPA for position of need.

There's at least a dozen quarterbacks that are better prospects than this kid. ZERO chance he's a fourth round pick. There, I said it. There are 6-7 QB's that could be drafted by the end of the 4th round and another 6-7 prospects better than Driskel. That's just the simple reality of the situation. Sounds more to me like the OP is a Florida homer.

Which QB do you want the Bills to draft?
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would be fine with Dak Prescott in the 5th round or Cardale Jones in the 4th. Nobody sooner. There's just too many other glaring needs to place a priority in drafting a backup that may or may not sniff the field. -

Jaylon Smith - What round is he worth the risk?
Luxy312 replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The difference between McGahee and Smith's injuries is that the latter has resulted in nerve damage from which he can never recover. If he has "drop foot", as some have suggested, he'll never set foot on a football field as a player ever again. With McGahee, it was reconstructive knee surgery and damage to multiple ligaments, but without the nerve issue.
