Former Bills OL Kyle Calloway passes away
Luxy312 replied to Blokestradamus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would disagree. Putting yourself in an environment where you're subject to undue risk is intelligence. He was working out, not train spotting. It's no different than the idiot that went biking in bear country. Chomp chomp. Tragedy? Nope. Stupidity. -

Luckily he isn't going to live forever, and now or never has passed.... -
Pass. The Bills are building for the future (finally) and not trying to patch together a group of journeyman and has-beens. For once, let's see the youth on this team develop. If they're hit with the injury bug early in the season, I say give him a veteran minimum contract with no guarantees and see what happens. Otherwise no.

The Writing is On The Walls. Bye, bye Bills

I think he's delusional and not really addressing proximate cause at all. The appetite for football in Canada is in its infant stage at best. You pay less to go to a CFL game than a baseball game here in the states. There's no evidence supporting that Canada even wants an NFL team. He makes an economic argument and then simply ignores the reality of economics to draw a conclusion. He absolves himself from reality by ignoring the massive investment that the Pegulas are making in the Buffalo area. Basically, his position is "it's all about money" but he gets to ignore where the money is actually getting spent. The Pegulas are making money to boot right where they are. I think it's hilariously delusional to be honest. -

I know this. But....the bigger point I made earlier is that they've done this EVERY year for the London games and they sell those out. Rogers tested the appetite for the NFL and it failed when other "tests" did not. That's what it's about. Is it sustainable when every team is going to have their ups and downs? No. London sold out Bills-Jaguars at massive prices. -

I don't think anyone would disagree with that point. So the bigger question is why you think the NFL could make it in anywhere in Canada. It couldn't bring fans in the richest city in Canada to fill a stadium with less than 50,000 people. It's not supporting the growth of the CFL which is pathetic by any comparative standard. The average salary of a player in the CFL is $52K. Average NFL salaries are 36.5X as much. Toronto not only failed to bring their own people to games, but failed to lure many WNY fans either. If you want to start talking economics, the chance of ANY team moving to Canada any time soon is slim to none. -
Joe B. "way too early" 53-man roster
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK, so you see Gragg as a receiving TE? His 12 catches for 150 last season isn't all that much. Plus, I'm saying they'll keep Felton and Gronkowski on as well, giving you 3 guys that are in skill positions that won't ever be anything much of a receiving threat and all which can block. -

Topic of the day 7/5: Rivalries, do they matter?
Luxy312 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Personally, I think rivalries only matter to fans. I don't see players suddenly playing better for Buffalo because they're playing the Jets in lieu of the Patriots of Dolphins and vice a versa. Where I see it occasionally playing out is when a player is let go by a team and feels slighted. Next time he plays against his old team, he's a bit more motivated / emotional about it. Whether that translates to better play is still a question. For fans, I don't think there's any doubt that it exists. Losing out of the division stings far less than losing within. Sure the Dolphins and Jets disgust me, but I hate losing to the Patriots the most because they've won the division so many times in the last 15 years and have mostly had my teams number. -

Running in front of trains is a very popular pastime in Tucson. I'm surprised more people don't get hit. -

It makes perfect sense if you throw out any notion of thinking with logic and reason. As long as they change the team name to Toronto Sabrecats. Would not having deranged/crazy on the TBD boards be boring? We'll never know. -

Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That very well may be on Duke Williams. I've watched a bit of Striker, mostly in college, and he just makes plays. My biggest concern with Striker is actually his height. He would be lucky to measure in at even 6' tall. Does not bode well if they're were intending to use him in any aspect of coverage. Lattimore is taller and has a much bigger wingspan. As I said, just guess work at this point. -

It's not all that confusing. Pegula is moving the team to Toronto after the WNY cash cow runs dry. He'll do this despite the fact that he would be alienating not only Bills fans but Sabres fans as well, but won't care despite what he's publicly said to the contrary. He's also doing it because JBJ is doing commercials for DirectTV. DirectTV is only having JBJ commercials because of an ultra-secret meeting with Roger Goodell where he layed out his detailed plans with DirectTV to expand to Canada. It has nothing to do at all with DirectTV's competition with Time-Warner/Comcast and DishNetwork. They're not really in competition, but simply just there. Just wait for the best part. JBJ has found samples of DNA from a unicorn. There's ultra secret plans where JBJ is working with Goodell to coordinate bringing unicorns back so that every player can ride one out onto the field for the first home game. You heard it here first! Don't tell anyone. -

My take is that they're not keeping 3 TE's on the roster. I think Jim Dray is gone. Instead, they keep and extra WR in Kolby Listenbee. He's shown promise in some of the offseason stuff so far, so cutting him seems farfetched. I don't think we see Fernando Velasco on the roster either. Instead, I think they actually keep both Felton and Gronkowski. Felton doesn't put up numbers, but he's still a load as a blocker and part of the reason for the success of the RB's last season. Last, I think they'll keep Eric Striker instead of Jamari Lattimore. They're both undersized guys, but Striker has shown greater ability to make plays. As has been said, very very early to project, but fun anyway. -

Clay Matthews is going to buy Campbell's and immediately discontinue selling anything that's "vegetables only". Heard it here first! Honestly, this whole thread is one big spurious correlation that means absolutely nothing. It's ridiculous that we're on 6 pages already. -
The verdict for me is pretty straight forward. For the Bills it's a win. They got a boatload of money for the games they relocated to Toronto. I personally think it had little to do with expanding the fan base because Canadians were already crossing the boarder to watch games at the Ralph. For Toronto it is an absolute loss. They weren't able to fill a stadium that couldn't even take 50k fans. Part of that had to do with ridiculous prices being charged. But there's a bigger point here. They GET those ridiculous prices in London no matter who's playing over there. For Canada as a whole, to have one of your richest cities not pay for games is pretty telling that it may not be the best expansion market. For Bills fans, it's a win. I know so many people with season tickets that were PISSED to have a game taken from them that they won't drive 6 hours round trip to watch. The economic demographic of the fans that live in WNY is vastly different than the economic demographic that crosses the boarder from Canada. So for Bills fans, getting back their home games is a good thing.

How Brady is beating defenses before ball is even snapped
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For the record, Brady averaged 1.6 seconds against the Bills last year. That's ridiculous. No chance you get to Brady in 1.6 seconds from snap. I think confusing him is really the only way about it, along with taking them to the woodshed when we're playing offense. -
How the Ravens went from SB winner to afterthought
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's an interesting side by side comparison of Baltimore and Buffalo. Over the last 3 years, they've both averaged finishing third in their respective divisions. Both teams have won exactly 23 games over that timeframe. The Ravens best year (2014) was better than the Bills best year (2015), but their worst year (2015) was worse than the Bills worst year (2013). Regardless of all that and whether one makes the argument that the Bills are getting younger while the Ravens are getting older, opening day home teams have gone 29-19 in the last 3 years combined. So one other thing I looked at is how the eventual playoff teams of each season fare in week 1. Collectively, they have gone 22-14 over the three seasons combined, with 10 of those 22 games being won on the road. I won't go far as to saying that the opening day road game against Baltimore is a must win, but the Bills-Jets game in week 2 would certainly become so, should that happen. -
I've been a Bills fan since the mid-70's and will continue to be a fan of them in the NFL or no one at all. I grew up roughly 20 miles South of what used to be Rich Stadium. Living in Chicago, I'll root for and watch the Bears if they put together a good team, but the Bills are #1. I will follow the Bills if they have a chance at the playoffs. If/when they're eliminated or are clearly just not good enough to have a chance, I turn them off. A 6-3 record going into the BYE week would make me optimistic this season. A 3-6 record and I'm pretty much mailing it in.

Seymour and White are currently ahead of Butler on the depth chart. At least the last one that I've looked at anyway. There's been a lot of praise for Seymour thus far, and he seems to be pretty much slotted to be the #3/dime corner. When all is said and done, Butler looks decent, but I just don't see him on the opening day roster.

Goodwin fails to make Olypmic team
Luxy312 replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It sucks for him that he can have the two longest jumps in the world this year so far and not make the Olympics. There should be some mechanism to allow for this other than 3 jumps at an Olumpic trial. Regardless of the Olympics, I don't think it matters all that much. Goodwin was never going to make it as anything other than maybe a 3rd or 4th receiver on the field when packages called for that. He was four years of average at Texas, and done nothing great at the NFL level. With the effusive praise of coaches of Dezmond Lewis, Greg Little, and even Kolby Listenbee; Goodwin will be hard pressed IMO to even make the team, much less move up on the depth charts. There are no less than 8 WR's that thus far sit ahead of him. -

Who's Your Surprise Starter for 2016?
Luxy312 replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looking at the depth chart right now, Dez Lewis at #3 WR isn't a surprise. That's where he's listed, so not sure why we wouldn't see that one coming. Adolphus Washington is a starter right now as well. Kouandjio would be a surprise as Jordan Mills is the starter at this point. The guy that I like to start at this point would have to jump over Shaq Lawson (not a shocker as he's not going to be ready until December) and Manny Lawson. I think IK Enemkpali will be the other OLB on day 1.
