I'm not at all surprised. He still has to serve a 4 game suspension. He's still fat and out of shape. Nothing has really changed for him in the last 6 weeks. Crappy situation for him to be in, no doubt, but he put himself in the position he's in. Maybe he gets a phone call for a visit in week 3-4, but will have to show something. Anything.

I'm sick of NFL players and the "second, third, fourth chance" arguments that people make. When I came out of college and signed my first employment agreement, it said right in it that I could get fired for illegal drug use of any kind. I could get fired for alcohol abuse. Karlos is not an innocent child in this situation. He's an idiot. He fails a test FOUR times with known testing dates and known work arounds. Dareus did too. The only difference between Karlos and Marcel is about $29.5m. That's the additional cap hit for cutting Marcel. No way he's going anywhere. Karlos is on the otherhand, expendable. Oh well.

Just predicting here, but I think they'll be running more 4-3 early on, unless one of the big guys steps up at NT. I look for it to be Bryant, Washington, and Williams with Bierman rounding out the 4. I think the gamble on Ta'Amu is that he can come in when they want to run the 3-4 and be a space taker. None the less, we'll see.

The defense absolutely stunk at the beginning of last season. They were terrible and still went 3-3, losing to two playoff teams and the Giants. That was also when Taylor was just getting going on offense. So can they lose the first 6 games of the season? Sure, but the offense could also be much better than what it was and they could go better than 3-3. I totally get the 16 years without playoffs, negative nancy attitude about the team. To Chicken Little, the sky is in fact, always falling. Right now, the offense is healthy and but for a suspended backup, we aren't seeing any meaningful missed games on that side of the ball. That's why they play the games though.

It's a nice thought, but trading him next year would result in a $33.5 million cap hit for accelerated bonuses. I.e. not happening.
-
Trust me, I know. If someone told me that if I did "X" that I would have to give up $3.58m dollars, I'm not fkn doing "X". The other kicker, if you want to call it that, is now he can be tested at any time of the year. The schedule of testing previously was relatively known and there were windows of time where he could do his thing and still beat the tests. Now there isn't.
-
Dareus is an idiot. The players agree to the CBA implicitly. You get caught with drugs or fail a drug test and you're guilty. Josh Gordon anyone? 1 game, then 4 games, then a season. Who is willing to give up $3.58m dollars so that they can smoke weed? The Bills will get back a pro-rata share of his salary and bonus for these games he's going to miss and it will be about that. I'm truly tired of these athletes that think that somehow they can game the system or just don't care. Dumb is not a valid defense, nor is the "it's just weed" argument. That argument is for idiots.

2016 Win/Loss Prediction Per Game - BBFS Edition
Luxy312 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll skip getting into the points, as that's pretty irrelevant. 1 - @Baltimore W - This game IMO sets the tone for the season and is a must win. Baltimore's defense is a shadow of what it once was. 2 - NY Jets L - Fitzpicksix playing for next years contract. Can the Jests lose 6 in a row to the Bills? 3 - Arizona W - Buffalo is pretty feisty at home. I think they have this one. 4 - @New England W - We'll be telling ourselves we would have beaten Tommy Terrific anyway at this point and start talking Division Title. 5 - @Los Angeles L - Typical post big-game win loss for the Bills. I'm pissed and ready to quit the team already. 6 - San Francisco W - We're back to Bill-ieving. 7 - @Miami W - Tannehill is an abortion wrapped in rotten meat. 8 - New England L - Brady throws for 450 yards and 4 TDs. No one can cover Gronk yet again. 9 - @Seattle L - Tough place to play. Last big win there we were sporting Willis McGahee at running back. 10 - Bye - 5-4 record at the bye week. This team has been here so many times in the last 16 years that it's painful. 11 - @Cincinnati W - Coming off a MNF game, Cincy is tired. Bills playing with lots of prep time. 12 - Jacksonville W - Jags are a dumpster fire. 13 - @Oakland L - Derrick Carr could throw 40 TD's this season...really. 14 - Pittsburgh W - In typical fashion, they win and lose games they shouldn't. 15 - Cleveland W - Cleveland makes the Jags look like they're all Hall of Fame worthy. 16 - Miami W - Squishy fishy don't win much this year, despite signing a dozen previous Bills players. 17 - @NY Jets W - In stark contrast to last season, this is the game the Bills need to win on the road to win the division and do. 11-5 and PLAYOFFS! -
What will our record be in Preseason??
Luxy312 replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's do some math, shall we? Is there a meaningful positive correlation between preseason wins and regular season wins? Nope. Teams going 4-0 in the preseason are just as likely to finish 8-8 as teams that go 0-4. Irrelevant. Is there a meaningful positive correlation between preseason wins and next seasons regular season wins? Also a resounding NO. Also meaningless. Other than your emotional attachment to "winning" the preseason, it means about as much as Rex Ryan saying he "won the draft". -
What will our record be in Preseason??
Luxy312 replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The preseason is an exercise in irrelevance. The Bills teams of the 90's averaged 1 win per preseason. That's it. The offenses and defenses should be vanilla and work solely on fundamentals. It's about as important to the team as what I have for breakfast on game day. -
What Eric Striker Brings to the Bills
Luxy312 replied to Cover 1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
His quickness is what catches my eye. He's basically the size of a safety. Hard to get hands on him when he's in space. When all is said and done, I'm not rooting for him or against him. I just want to see guys on the field that can play. -
I think it's Lawson-Enemkpali-Striker on opening day. I just don't think Striker has the size or athleticism to be anything more than a situational pass rusher. Obviously when Shaq comes back, he's the guy. Otherwise, I think this is good work.

Deadspin's "Why your team sucks" 2016
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Considering that it's all tongue in cheek, and not a real opinion piece, I think they're all funny. -
Can't really disagree with this logic. Last year, we would have killed to have another productive back after Gillislee

Given how thin they were last year at RB, I do think he'll make the final 53. The real question is what they do when Karlos comes back in week 5. Is he still out of shape or ready to play? How does Williams look in the meantime. I've read a lot that says he's been impressive in OTA's, so it's not out of the question that they go with 5 RB's plus Felton.

Bills announce contract extension for Tyrod Taylor
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Doing math and saying $X > $Y is nice, but doesn't address the practical reality of contracts in the NFL. Saying we can just tag Taylor for two years straight is nice, but then what you're saying is that we're letting Gilmore go to the highest bidder next year and Watkins go to the highest bidder the year after? That would be completely idiotic, and Taylor's agent is going to know this going into any negotiation. So it comes down to a question of how the Bills can do this, such that they are not committing to the long-term with the assumption that Taylor will significantly improve this year, but maybe have the option if in fact he does. At the same time, they can give him more money this year (still fitting under the cap though), and plan for that possible future. The contract that I look back on is the creative one they did with Percy Harvin. I don't remember all the specifics, but they didn't pay him a lot in year one, maybe $3 million if I remember right. At least two years after that were both option years for the Bills at $8 million per year or something like that. They could structure a bridge for Taylor that does exactly the same thing. Something like this: 2016 - $12 million 2017 - $18 million 2018 - $20 million 2019 - $22 million After this year, the last 3 years are voidable. Basically, the $12 million is a good faith "show me" contract for the Bills. If he takes all the steps that we hope he will take, 2017 and 2018 become fully guaranteed. 4 Years $72 million with $38 million guaranteed sound familiar? Very similar to what Osweiler got, but obviously not with the ability to void. This kind of deal doesn't hold either side at a ransom nor impede the Bills from tagging Gilmore next year if they have to. By the way, for frame of reference, that average $18m/year deal would put him squarely at 16th in the NFL for his position. Not a discount, but also not giving Aaron Rodgers type of money to a yet unproven commodity if he earns it. -
Trent Richardson Released by the Ravens
Luxy312 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trent Richardson is a dumpster fire. Not even worth looking at. -
This is Mason's 3rd year in the NFL I believe. He has shown flashes of being "the guy" but now obviously was unseeded by a superior Gurley. None the less, hope they find him somewhere other than in a ditch or shallow grave. Scary when people lose their minds.

Fitz calls his shot -Update Signed w/Jets
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For the most part (but admittedly not 100%), this is what the Bills have been doing for the last decade and a half. The Bills had 12 of those 16 years starting re-treads from other teams. Flutie, Bledsoe, Holcomb, Fitz, and Orton. The good news from the front office is that they'll only have to worry about one year. -
Fitz calls his shot -Update Signed w/Jets
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
6 Months and the Jets call the shot. Can't say I'm all that surprised really. Osweiler money? Nope. Multi-year deal? Nope. Here's your one year deal journeyman. The biggest potential dilemma now is if by some miracle, Fitz is able to repeat what he did last season. While it's a TBD, I don't think he will. -

Bills announce contract extension for Tyrod Taylor
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The article at least alludes to the fact that they're not simply opening the checkbook to give him Osweiler type of money. "Trying to seek common ground" tells me that they would extend him now, but at a discount. How much that discount is exactly is unknown. If I'm Tyrod and truly believe that his play on the field will speak for itself, there's no way I take a significant haircut off of the going rate for a starter. The only thing that makes sense for the Bills trying to do it now is the discount. There's no point in paying the full rate now, when you can just make him earn it.
