  1. I've given people an example of this on multiple occasions. I'm baffled to this day, as to how a coach takes a pass rushing defensive tackle in Dareus with a $95m contract and turn him into a run stuffing nose tackle. It is beyond mind numbing, unless you concede your very statement above.
  2. This is a non-story. The Bills aren't going to cut McCoy to save $1m, all the while still eating $7.875m in dead cap space. That's just plain stupid.
  3. He's not going to get a job any quicker than Ginormous Russell.
  4. 3 teams in 5 years. There can't be ANYTHING wrong with Nick Foles. Let's make it 4 for 6 and sign another journeyman reject. The Bills have barely tried this approach over the last 17 years. To boot, they're bottom 5 in the NFL in their salary cap situation and will likely have to tag Gilmore for $14m if they want to keep him. #tiredofotherteamsrejects.
  5. Cardale Jones kind of reminds me of JaMarcus Russell coming out of college. Big kid with a big arm. I hope that the similarities stop there and that Jones puts in the work to learn. I can see the Bills parting ways with Taylor. He didn't show us anything last year that didn't look exactly like the year before. He doesn't throw receivers open. He runs more of a 4-minute offense when he's asked to run the 2-minute offense. He's made some plays with his feet, but that's about it. Where I get hung up is suggesting that the Bills will just go ahead and spend their first round pick on a quarterback. When they drafted Cardale last year, they knew he was raw, extremely raw. They knew without a doubt that it would take quite a bit of time for him to develop. So I question why this front office would reach for a QB that basically every analyst out there says isn't worth a first-round pick. So my logic (right or wrong) on what the front office is thinking is as follows: Keep Taylor for the next two years and continue to develop Cardale to see if he can become what we think he may have the potential to become. If they draft a quarterback in this situation, I don't think they will do so until later rounds like a Chad Kelly in the 5th or 6th round. Let Taylor go and start Cardale. This may not seem ideal, but I don't see them reaching to start another quarterback when they got Cardale for the express purpose of developing him. Same thing in terms of getting a QB later in the draft, although I would say in this scenario it's definite that they should either draft another QB late or look to free agency for a backup. I just don't see another scenario forming, despite what all of the self-proclaimed experts claim will happen with the Bills taking a quarterback with that 10th pick.
  6. 1 - I don't recall any player that was drafted early that doesn't play a single down in their rookie year and then is traded away. 2 - Who's going to trade for a guy that was a rookie last year that didn't play a down last season? 3 - What magical/mystical cap calculator are you using, where the Bills get a known commodity at safety or linebacker? 4 - Last and maybe most important, put down the pipe. Drugs are bad.
  7. Notwithstanding how good he was in that game, he was ridiculously productive over the course of his career. Only Jerry Rice had more YPG than Owens. Put him next to Tim Brown. 255 games, 58.6 YPG and 100 TD's for Brown, who's a hall of famer. Owens played in 219 games, had 72.8 YPG and 153 TD's. That's just ridiculous. He should be in the HOF and should have been first ballot.
  8. This. Every year we have people suggesting that the Bills can just go out and BUY any free agent that's out there. Never mind the salary cap. Never mind those pesky facts that get in the way of a dreamed reality. The Bills are not only near the bottom of the NFL in available cap space, but have more free agents than anyone. Wagner is just a luxury that they can't afford.
  9. Until there's further evidence, Jimmy Garoppolo = Matt Cassell. Looks great in the Patriots system on that team, but then went somewhere else and looked like a journeyman. The Bills franchise doesn't need another year of adding journeymen. I wouldn't trade a half eaten burrito for Garoppolo.
  10. They run pick routes on almost every passing play. It's ridiculous.
  11. That is a pretty funny read really.
  12. The OP is spot on, and we have to look at nothing other than some basic facts to prove the point. In the 16 years that we're talking about, how many times have the Patriots had an offense that was really good, or both an offense and defense that were top-10 in the NFL? The answer is 14 years. Only in 2002 and 2005 did we see a Patriots team still with a good offense, but a fairly average defense. In 2002 they didn't make the playoffs and in 2005, they lost the Divisional playoff to the Broncos. For the rest of the Bills, Jets, and Dolphins COMBINED, there were only 2 such teams over the course of 16 years. That would be the 2004 Bills with Bledsoe and the 2009 Jets with Sanchez that had the #1 defense in the NFL. That is a staggering, almost mind-numbing difference. The Patriots are there 87.5% of the time under Brady. The rest of the AFC East gets it done only 4.2% of the time. Very very painful indeed.
  13. I've started calling them the "Pastericks". It's a good nickname!
  14. I want to see the Bills draft Howard about as much as I wanted to see them take Eric Ebron the year they drafted Watkins. Not drawing comparisons between the two, of course, but simply the fact that Ebron was the definitive TE that year like Howard is this year. None the less, Howard has gotten by in college with his size and athleticism. He's got a LOT of work to do, and the Bills already have Clay anyway for 3 more years. It would create $13.5 million in dead money to drop him or trade him. Howard is not the pick you seek (in my best Yoda voice).
  15. I just want to know who the RB receiver is going to be...
  16. Let's see. 30 years old; declining production; 1 healthy season in 6 years. I would take a pass. Worst case scenario if you're going to "take a flyer" is he signs for one year for the league minimum. That's it.
  17. When Rex came into Buffalo, it seemed that he clearly understood the Bills fan base. We've endured 17 years without a playoff game and yet don't walk away from out team. We're behind our coach and our players no matter what, almost to a fault. He is the one that dismantled the defense. Let's fire the DC of the 2nd best defense in the NFL so that he can ultimately hand the job to his brother. Ryan turned a $95 million pass rushing defensive tackle into a run stuffing nose tackle. As for the quarterback, Orton didn't quit, he retired. Irrelevant anyway, as Taylor is better than him. I didn't care about any of these changes, until his last statement. "He'll root for the Jets". I have to wonder what he has to gain by saying thisw. That final statement is pretty much giving Bills fans the middle finger. It makes him no better than "cash out" Marrone. It's crystal clear that he never understood this team or the fans at all. Good riddance.
  18. If you look at the last 4 years combined, with Smith as the signal caller, he's been the benefactor of the second best defense in the league (only to Seattle). They have not allowed a lot of points and simply need a game manager, which is what they have.
  19. Personally, I think the styles of offense and defense that we're talking about make more sense for the players that they have than Rex's caste of characters did. Mcdermott is a 4-3 defensive guy, so I would expect Frazier to be running that system for the Bills. I never understood and still don't understand today why the Bills took a $95 million pass rushing defensive tackle and made him a two-gap nose tackle. The Bills biggest problem last year was their secondary, and that's pretty much Frazier's forte. In terms of Dennison, he worked with Taylor back in the Baltimore days. I'm hoping that will help Taylor out of the gates (assuming he's the quarterback) and that the offense can improve. Denver's offense has been a mess the last couple of seasons, albeit with a carousel of quarterbacks. To boot, Kubiak was calling most of the plays on offense. Not sure what Dennison was actually doing for the Broncos. There's a lot of experience among the guys hired so far. Hopefully that bodes well for next year. Call me cautiously optimistic.
  20. His role as the primary ball carrier will diminish, but he's been the exception to the rule at his position.
  21. Yes. He's athletic. So are the other guys I mentioned this year. There's nothing that separates him from guys in this draft alone, much less the last 3 years. Sadly, we see wishful thinking like this from fans of the player, not willing to look at the team and system that he played in. His mechanics for the pro level are, to be honest, terrible. He throws side arm a lot of the time. He throws off his back foot. His deep ball accuracy is something to be desired. He's a college career shotgun guy. As for Graham Harrell being small, he was 6-3. Mahomes is shorter, albeit a little heavier. Harrell did not have a weak arm either. Go back and read his scouting report. Alternatively, don't. Just assume this 3rd-4th round prospect is 1st round value. It doesn't hurt my feelings either way. I'm just calling it like I see it.
  22. While I don't disagree, this draft is pretty weak for QB's. I could easily point to years just the same where QB's were picked high in the first round and turned out to be nothing special or even a complete bust. Reaching is more likely to result in failure than success based on history.
  23. Me personally? So I said most boards have 3-5 guys ahead of him, I probably have 3 ahead of him value wise and one tied. Trubisky is probably the least flawed of any of the QB's in the draft this year. He's already a read option guy, which is what he'll be asked to do, albeit faster and against better talent. Along with him, I think Deshaun Watson are both drafted in the first round, potentially before the Bills even pick. Although he could be picked in the first round, I have Kizer as second round value. At this point, everyone from him on down have their flaws. I probably have Mahomes tied with Peterman for value for Buffalo in the third round. It's hard to take a system college guy and say he can run the pro system just the same. If you want a similar guy, you need to look no further than Graham Harrell from......same school years before. Put up ridiculous numbers, but they never really translated to success at the next level.
  24. Mahomes is a nice thought, but when there's 3-5 QB's rated higher than him (at least so far), he's not the #10 pick in the draft. I wouldn't touch him until late in round 2 or early round 3. The Bills have serious needs at multiple positions to reach someone. I seriously doubt we see a reach in the first round ala the Oakland Raiders of 2000 when they picked Janikowski at 17th.
  25. Adams or Hooker before Williams for sure. I would take either in a heartbeat.
