If you had to choose 1 out of the 10, who would it be?
Luxy312 replied to gr8billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I haven't read through all 7 pages, but for me it's easy. The Bills are paying Andre Holmes $6.5m to be the #2 WR. We're talking about a team that's barely throwing for 200 yards per game. Between Watkins, Clay, Holmes, McCoy and others, we have plenty of receivers to catch passes. So for me, this eliminates Mike Williams and Corey Davis. Given that we already have Clay, OJ Howard would not be a priority for me either. I don't think Jonathan Allen falls anywhere close to #10, but I wouldn't take him either. Drafting to attempt to upgrade a position (presumably to eventually replace Kyle Williams instead of Adolphus Washington), is a complete waste of a pick on either Allen or McDowell. So now we're talking about a Bills team that will be running a 4-3 defense. Either Ragland or Brown will start in the middle. Reuben Foster becomes another luxury pick. All that's left for me to really get vexed about is the defensive backs and the offensive lineman. In order, I would take Hooker first. Safety is the single most important position for the Bills to fill. Micah Hyde is a flexible defensive back that moves all over the field, but can play Strong Safety. Hooker is a definitive upgrade. Adams would be my second choice, with safety still being the priority. After that, I wouldn't pass on Lattimore. The Bills don't know what they have with Seymour yet and the loss of Gilmore was significant. Robinson would be my 4th choice. Mills was just OK, although I'm reminded that this line still led the NFL in rushing and YPC. I hesitate to call them terrible. That's my take for what it's worth. With 6 draft picks, I want to see them fill holes and not simply draft a guy that may or may not be an upgrade to what they already have. -
Who is still mad we tanked the Jets game?
Luxy312 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I could have swore I saw Tyrod's upper body in the game, but without any legs. It was quite a strange year. -
What 6 picks would you take by position for this team?
Luxy312 replied to BrycePaup4ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not in any particular order: CB/FS/SS - The addition of Micah Hyde and his flexibility of being able to play multiple positions in the secondary, allows the Bills to pick BPA from these positions in lieu of trying to fill a specific position. Lattimore, Adams, or Hooker in the first wouldn't hurt my feelings as would Baker or King in the second round. I think one or perhaps even both of these picks have to be defensive backs and have to be guys that can start right away. OT - They might be happy with what they have, but I think they would consider a pick at this position if the right guy is there. Cam Robinson in the 2nd round? OLB - Two guys on the roster currently, isn't going to cut it. Need to draft some depth here, but after the 2nd round. Those are my critical positions. I don't have WR on my list because there's 9 on the roster right now. No TE's because they have 4 of those too. I see most of this draft being defense. -
This mock is about 99.999% pipe dream. Why are teams willing to give us so much to move up, especially in the later rounds? Makes no sense, without context. What makes Seattle so desperate to give us a handful of picks to move up in the first? Did Mike Ditka suddenly become the G.M.? Please refer to the Ricky Williams trade a number of years ago if you're too young to get the reference. It's a nice thought, and boy would I love to see 6 picks parlayed into 10-12. I just don't think there's a realistic scenario in which that happens.

Jets possibly looking at QB in first round
Luxy312 replied to CanadianFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I could certainly see Trubisky with the 6th overall pick. It's not like they're paying McCown starter money. I could even see the Bears thinking about it with their pick at #3. Sure they signed Glennon for a good chunk of change, but $18.5m is guaranteed and most of that is actually his salary for this year. Draft your future and give him a year or two to develop. If none of the Jets, Bears, or 49ers go QB early, I think Cleveland will be sitting pretty at #12 to get a QB to go with Garrett. -
Drafting Peterman wouldn't bother me. Drafting Peterman in the second round would be a huge mistake. The Bills need to get guys that can start right away with their first 2-3 picks in the draft. I wouldn't even consider drafting him until the 4th round.
-
Jones will be the #2. If there even is a third QB on this team, it will be through the draft.
-
No RGIII, no Jay Cutler, no Colin Kaepernick. No, no, no. Done with other teams retreads. If the team isn't comfortable with Cardale Jones as the #2, then draft another QB. Enough of the nonsense.
-
Who got starting jobs ahead of Cutler? Glennon, Hoyer, Foles, McCown to name 4. Who got backup jobs ahead of Cutler? Jones, Barkley, Smith, Manuel, & Moore. Let that sink in. E.J. Manuel got a backup job ahead of Cutler. What does that tell you, at a minimum, about what Cutler is bringing to the table? Baggage and plenty of it. Pass.
-
I know that much. All I'm saying is that there's 9 WR's on the roster right now. Add to that 4 TE's and you're at 13 pass catchers. Whether we as fans WANT another big receiver or not is pretty irrelevant to what the team appears to be doing. They also sign Dimarco and Tolbert and specifically say they're here to catch passes. At the end of the day, the team is only throwing for just over 200 yards a game with Tyrod at QB. More pass-catchers to me is just silly.
-
Given the significant number of needs on the team and the fact that they just signed Andre Holmes to a 3 year $6.5m deal, I don't see them drafting a wide receiver in any round this year. They still have Kolby Listenbee that they drafted as a developmental speedster. They re-signed Tate and still have Powell, Brown, Lewis, Butler, and I believe one other. Who thinks WR will be any priority when there's 9 on the roster and they're still super thin at both safety positions, cornerback, and linebacker? Not me.

Find me a versatile Corner in the draft
Luxy312 replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marshon Lattimore at #10 would be ideal, although I don't see him falling that far. I don't think there's any other corner worthy of the #10 pick in the first round and would prefer that they move down. In terms of other options, I would love to see Kevin King in round 2. He's a big physical guy that can play both corner and safety. Given the Bills problems for many years with covering tight ends, I think he would be a nice fit. Don't look past Gareon Conley either. He's Lattimore's counterpart at Ohio State and is often overlooked because of him. -
MMQB: why Kaepernick and RGIII not on NFL rosters
Luxy312 replied to CanadianFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Stephen A. Smith would say that Kaepernick is being blacklisted. I would simply say that he's an average quarterback, wanting more than average money, that poses the threat of being more of a distraction than a benefit to any team that he would sign with. As for his trip to the Superbowl, he can thank then #2 defense in the NFL. Many average QB's that will never sniff the HOF have gone to the Superbowl and some have won it by virtue of their defense. Kaepernick's situation is really most similar to Vick when he got out of jail. Both flashed talent early in their career. Vick had a challenge finding a starting role again after his off the field issues, with many teams simply taking a pass on him due to the possibility of being a detriment to the team. The NFL is, after all, a business and a big one at that. Ignoring the business end of a snake will only get you bit. -
Over/Under for wins this season.
Luxy312 replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Vegas over/under is 8, with the money right now primarily on the under. $150 bet on the under would get you $100, while $100 bet on the over would get you $120. Based on everything, I would have to go on the under at this point. There's a lot of assumptions that I would have to make to get to the over. Collective health of the team is good; Ragland is what we expect him to be; productive draft; better defense. Just a lot. -
Anyone that thinks that the Bills will be signing huge names at this point isn't really paying close attention. It's not about being cheap either, as the Bills have to spend something North of 95% of the salary cap. The team had 31 players hit free agency this year. That's the most of any team in the NFL. To boot, they didn't have a ton of cap space. The Tyrod contract restructure gave them a little bit of space. I think that was probably the best for the team, other than the option of a full blown house sale. I'm glad that didn't happen. This team does have some talent on it, particularly on defense. Signing Hyde, IMO, was an excellent move given just how many different ways the guy can play. They're basically in a position now where they only have a handful of guys that have signed new contracts and still a need to add another 20-25. Outside of the draft, I don't think they're going to get anyone other than role players or guys with potential.

Tyrod's new restructured contract - the details
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not really. The Bills wouldn't have included a $7m signing bonus, which they would have to still eat as a cap hit in 2017 if they traded him away. If the intent was sign and trade, they would have given him all guaranteed salary for the next two years, which a new team would take 100% against their own cap, leaving the Bills with no penalty. -
I think both of these things are true.
-
If the Hoyer stories are correct, the Bills will not be drafting a quarterback. At the end of the day, Taylors deal almost undoubtedly contains more guaranteed money than he would have gotten after this Saturday. That means that the front office has penciled him in as the starter for at least 2 years. Add the rumor mill of the Bills trying to get a deal done with Brian Hoyer and Cardale Jones as a developmental guy and they're at 3 QB's. No way we're going into next season with 4. Anyone thinking that Mcdermott has no input into re-signing Taylor AND signing Hoyer as a backup, just isn't tuning in to the reality of the NFL.

Stevie Johnson Released, Bring Him Back?
Luxy312 replied to bilzfancy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't want him back. Here's a guy that in Buffalo, was more focused on what he was going to do for his next touchdown celebration than working on being a better receiver. Forget it. Don't want him. -
Does Watson's impressive combine do anything for you?
Luxy312 replied to BILLiever55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure that we, as fans, will have to be worried about whether the Bills have an option to pick Watson when they draft #10. Right now, there isn't a QB on San Francisco's roster. There is very little doubt in my mind that the 49ers are drafting QB. Being in Chicago, I can tell you with almost certainly that the Bears are moving on from Jay Cutler. Right now, I think Trubisky and Watson go #2/#3 in either order. In terms of whether Watson's combine "does anything for me", it didn't. A lot of QB's look good at the combine. Big whoop. -
Steve Christie Calling out Bills FO
Luxy312 replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Carpenter had a heck of a first year with the Bills and then became a headcase. Sorry but that, coupled with his salary, makes him a casualty. I could really care less what Steve Christie thinks about the situation. It has nothing to do with kicking in Buffalo either. He stunk on the road just the same. -
Fitz-pick-six? Nope.

This is one of those "stop taking drugs" threads. There's no chance that ANY team is paying a backup quarterback $15m to sit on the bench.

Foles will be a FA after Chiefs unlikely to pick up option
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Notwithstanding cap mechanics and Badol choosing to ignore the future, $7.875m becomes dead money. I missed the June 1 timing thing, but barely consider that relevant. -
Foles will be a FA after Chiefs unlikely to pick up option
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, it can't. The $6m is his base salary for this season. If he plays, $2,625m of his prorated original bonus is applied to this season. He gets an additional $250k workout bonus. His total cap hit PLAYING this season is $8.875m. Cutting him accelerates the application of his prorated bonus for the remaining 3 years of his contract at $2.625m per year. So if the Bills cut him, they eat $7.875m in salary cap. The $7.875m is dead money no matter how you slice and dice it. McCoy is going nowhere.
